osu isnt dead but it is dying
It's not as popular as Minecraft or Fortnite yeah, but it doesn't mean that it's a little game and that nobody talks about itemajakolic wrote:
I think that osu isn't that popular..correct me if i'm wrong lol
In the rhythm game scene, it is one of the most popular games of all time ironically (even if a lot of the scene denies it vehemently.) In terms of gaming in general, it is comparable to MMOs in active userbase and pretty well known, but not on levels with actual big gamesemajakolic wrote:

osu! is dead in the sense that most communities have more or less diminished overtime.
years ago, like before 2015, osu! would have a lot of active sub-communities compromised of national groups, mapper groups, certain mod-combination player communities (FL), even forum shit posters had their own communities etc. I see less of this compared to back in the day.
osu! over time has strangely become more of a homogenized game in my opinion.
what I mean by this is pp-maps have stomped out most players with unique skills and playstyles from the leaderboard. not saying that all people in the top-100 are, obviously there are many players with incredible skillsets but a majority of them have similar skillsets so there is less incentive to look up to as many different top players as compared to back in the day. On top of that, overall this game community is a lot more westernized/western dominant. Before there were clear western and eastern (asiatic) communities.
I know that numbers wise, osu! is more popular than ever before in it's entire history but osu! and it's community has lost a lot of it's original culture to the point where old players returning after 5 years would find this place unrecognizable.
God the subcommunity stuff is so trueMakan1 wrote:

You're so right ma'amAireunaeus wrote:
It actually depends from the person actually. Technically, osu is still alive and well but the term “dead” is rather used in a trending way. So the term “osu! Is dead” is mostly used by osu! Players, that are less active or doesn’t even play the game anymore and thinks that the playerbase has been decreased and “osu is not dead” is rather from newer or active ones that still play osu.
I could literally make a graph to prove that fact, but idk how lol
Im not sure if u meant it ironically lolAnaxii wrote:

Yeah, the game and community itself will probably not die for a long while, but the parts of the community that have been around for years have sadlyVoidGod wrote:
The fact is - osu! will Never die as a community and as game in general.
In the years the community has changed most and I think it will change more.
Also with the recent rising of the social network like TikTok (yeah) the community have actually seen new players getting curious about the game
Talking about graphs, osu! is not a dead game, as now, maybe in the future it will.
Everything have its beginning, and its end.
Because the people are different of courseUPR wrote:

Nah cause sub-communities die out due to homogenization over time. We see a lot of this happen passively under our noses. A shame really, but sadly some thing will end as new uniform parts come to fruition. Well atleast the score system will be the same for many more yearsAnaxii wrote:
