I have just started getting into skinning however i've ran into a frustrating issue with how osu! scales graphics. The edges of almost alll @2x elements I create show up in-game with incredibly aliased edges, and it just looks plain nasty.

How can I stop this from happening?
OsuMe65
either use standard sizes on that one or deal with it.

it might just be how it is, but i never used the hd elements before... #justdealwithit

Quick question, is the "New Skin Template" from the 1st page still up-to-date?
I'm planning to try another go at skinning, but this time I wanna try the Version: 2.x stuff.

Thx~

I'd suggest finding a skin you like and just use that as a base.

I'll just use the latest NeOsu as my template then, thanks for the suggestion

So lately the combobreak for all my skins are default for some reason. Is there some way to get them back?

In the NuFuze skin I found some elements named scoreentry-x and fps-x
Where do they appear in the game?
Anyone care to enlighten me?

Also is the size of section-fail/pass limited in version: 2.x ?
I can't seem to enlarge it as much as in version: 1.0

first of all sorry, obviously i couldn't read through 248 pages and this has probably already been asked, but is there a way to change my colours mode-specific?
i really want my ctb-fruits to have realistic colours (like red, green etc.) but my skin is mostly for standard and uses colours like blue, purple etc. which obviously don't fit what i'm looking for :x
so far my skin.ini looks like this:

[Colours]
Combo1: 125, 125, 255
Combo2: 71, 254, 194
Combo3: 227, 227, 227
Combo4: 19, 255, 255
Combo5: 225, 88, 100
Combo6: 255, 187, 221
Combo7: 255, 94, 55
Combo8: 255, 253, 223
//SliderTrackOverride: 0,0,0
//Menuglow: 246, 238, 0

also the menuglow doesn't really work. did i do it wrong :? (also tried it without the //'s and yes, i am a supporter)

Just ignore the fps-x files. They only work on Fallback and never were planned to stay skinnable.

Pass/Fail shouldn't have any restrictions. You maybe just made them too small. Also for HD elements you skin for a 2732x1536 playfield, not 1920x1080.

There are no mode specific combo colours. osu! and ctb share the colours.

For the glow you must follow correct capitalization for the skin.ini lines. Use "MenuGlow:".

alright so I am wondering if the time the hitlighting.png is active is editable.

(with active I mean from the moment when you hit a circle to the moment in stops and has faded out 100% )

pretty much I dont want the hitlighting to stay there aslong as it is, and I am not sure if I can make it shorter using the skin.ini file or if I have to make the image more transparent which I doubt wont be accurate

yes, you can animate the lighting like you do the motion of the menu back of some skins, i gues you can use blank pngs and a little of playing around to get the desired effect

You can't animate lighting.png, only lightingN.png and lightingL.png which are used in mania can be animated.

Just disable Hitlighting in the options if you think it stays too long. Having it on does not really give any advantage.

Hello, I was trying to find an answer to my question and couldn't find it so here I am asking it:

Is is possible set a certain sound to each comboburst? I mean I have combobursts of many characters and I would like to have them all say something when they pop up.

For example I have comboburst-0.png that is a girl character and I would like that girl to shout yayyy!! But I also have comboburst-1 that is a male and I would like him to shout something else. Now if I make comboburst-0.wav for the girl and comboburst-1.wav for the quy it doesn't really work, they aren't "attached" to the png's meaning sometimes the girl could shout the guys lines instead. I actually have 14 combobursts so when audio plays it's most like the wrong character's one and that's somewhat annoying

I have tried setting the ComboBurstRandom: to 0 and 1 with no luck,
I also tried this
CustomComboBurstSounds: 50,100,200,300,400,500,600,700,800,900,1000,1500,2000
ComboBursts: 50,100,200,300,400,500,600,700,800,900,1000,1500,2000

But honestly I doubt that "ComboBursts:" is a code that actually exists :'D

So?? Does anyone know if this is possible???

If I have gotten someone's permission to use their element for a skin in the past, will I need to ask for permission again to add it into another new skin? :o

Well if the person fails to specify on you being able to use it with just saying you can, then i guess. It wouldnt hurt to ask though

My guess is that you are using default-numbers as hitcircles.
When a combo reaches 10+, the game will put the "default-1" and the "default-0" image side by side.

Either don't do that, or set the "HitCircleOverlap" field in your skin.ini to the width of your default-1.png file, e.g. :
HitCircleOverlap=128

You must be able to provide proof of permission if asked by any member of the osu! community.
If the author gave you permission "in general", you can.
If he gave you permission for one specific skin however you'll have to ask him again.

But I guess he won't mind if you just go for it and remember to mention him somewhere in the credits :^)

Hello,
after mixing a few skins and adding different features into one skin, I'm kinda confused as to what file changes the key overlay, I mean the number color, not the keys background or their shape.

I have a the Crystalized background and Cookiezi's Shige-Seoul hit numbers but I can't find the file/picture that's responsible for the color change. I would like to change the numbers white so that it fits the background better, because black ones can't be seen while playing.

First of all it depends on what client version you are using, but lets assume you are using the latest version. Just add a blank png image and name it "sliderendcircle"

Did you refresh your skin? Either change to a different skin and change back, or use the hotkey combination Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S.

Also, refer to Skin Versions and see what changes are denoted.

I was talking about the Problem with the Background while the ranking is showed: https://osu.ppy.sh/ss/6158275

A few years ago, you could easily add a custom Background there, but now - as far as I know - you can Change the Background only, if you Change the Background of the whole beatmap. To solve this Problem, I was asking for.

I'm pretty sure you just need to make your ranking-panel.png as that "custom background" and have it large enough so that it spans the whole game screen.

nope, because the ranking-Panel.png has now anotther fix-Point. it doesn't matther how big I'll skale the Picture, because if it's set to a lower Position as "highest Point" it won't work at all (sorry for my bad grammer, english isn't my Primary language).

Mmmm...
Names are "comboburst-0.png" and "comboburst-1.png" (both 600x768 as said).
The one able to show up is way bigger (cropped it but still big and afterwards acceptable) than the other.
The other one is not that small though, originally 373x373; I only added the blank part and inserted the image to the left so it would fit the...... Or is it that the blank is unneeded?

UPDATE: I don't know how it went to now but both are now showing ._o
I only tried to rename on and on and go back to "comboburst-0" and "comboburst-1". And there was another element I had to redo.
I remade that element while the game was opened and understood I had to restart to see it properly modified. Maybe I though something went wrong, when I actually only had to restart the game? '-'

depends, if you also want to get rid of combo and kiai fountains.

if yes then it is better to just use a blank pixel as star2.png but this will also get rid of them in the song select.

if no and only the ones from the cursor are distracting you can use "StarBreakAdditive: 0,0,0" in the colours section to have the cursor particles invisible but you will still have them in combo and kiai fountains.

I enjoy the skin I'm using, but it doesn't give me anything to indicate my progress when I'm completing a spinner. Here is an example.
How can I go about inserting an image into the spinner's background that is dim and then becomes bright as the spinner approaches completion?
I've tried changing the spinner-background.png file to a bunch of semi-transparent and opaque text, and it doesn't seem to change at all during spinner completion, so maybe I have to set it to do that somewhere? The skin is using version 2.4.

Thanks in advance ;)

Do you want it to be like what's in the video?

If so, you'll need to have your base spinner-background.png, then a spinner-metre.png that you plan to overlay on top (which acts as your progress in completing the spinner). You can also include a spinner-clear.png that assures you the spinner is complete. So going from what you asked, you want to make spinner-background.png some really dark or faded image, and then spinner-metre.png the bright and fully lit version.

Here's a sample of it being used from my personal skin. The top image is spinner-metre.png, while the bottom image is spinner-background.png.

I think there is a slight offset difference between the two images, but I don't recall... You either want to experiment or look at other skins that have this property if you want them to precisely line up.

I have both of my images set at the same size (1024x768) and it seems like my spinner-background is too big for my spinner-metre.
I'm going to adjust it, but it might take a while.
spinner-background.png
spinner-metre.png

I set both of the images to 1023x692 (default spinner-metre.png size) and it worked perfectly!

It seems to be skipping back and forth, but I think that's just an issue with how the game processes it.

Thanks so much for your reply! :)

How do you change the song select area song thingies?
SPOILER
I mean those boxes that when you click on, they play the song, and if you click again you can play it.

You must mean menu-button-background.png, right?

Use an image that's 699x103.

Try something in osuskinner or an existing custom skin and see if that suits you fancy. For more details, check the wiki page.

Go to your skin.ini and set HitCircleOverlap to 50.

In Mania, I've been trying to animate the notes themselves. Now normally from what I've seen, it wouldn't be a problem more than numbering the pictures. But because I'm going more DDR oriented I've used the skin.ini to set the pictures. So is there a way to animate the notes within the skin.ini that I'm missing?

Don't inlcude the first framenumber. Just write down the picture name.
You also need to define all parts of a hold note.
Exmaple:

[Mania]
Keys: 4
NoteImage0: arrow-left-0 (these are all the single notes)
NoteImage1: arrow-up-0
NoteImage2: arrow-down-0
NoteImage3: arrow-right-0
NoteImage0H: arrow-left-head-0 (these are the heads of hold notes)
NoteImage1H: arrow-up-head-0
NoteImage2H: arrow-down-head-0
NoteImage3H: arrow-right-head-0
NoteImage0L: arrow-body-0 (these are the bodies of hold notes)
NoteImage1L: arrow-body-0
NoteImage2L: arrow-body-0
NoteImage3L: arrow-body-0
NoteImage0T: arrow-tail-0 (these are the tails of hold notes)
NoteImage1T: arrow-tail-0
NoteImage2T: arrow-tail-0
NoteImage3T: arrow-tail-0
For the pictures itself remember to start numbering them from 0 (arrow-left-0.png, arrow-left-1.png, arrow-left-2.png, ...).

They should appear animated now if you made no mistakes.

Hey guys! I just got a scorebar done for me and it looks great but Luisina sent me like 4 scorebar-colours. ( http://imgur.com/a/hqHN2 ) They're slightly different in the line division so I don't know which one to put in or if It's animated and i put them all in. If it's animated how to I put it into the skin folder?

I don't see the difference between the 4 images (at least from my eyes)...

The background = scorebar-bg.png
The Health-bar = scorebar-colour.png
If you want to make the animation of it, rename the 4 images to scorebar-colour-0.png, scorebar-colour-1.png, and so on until scorebar-colour-3.png

I've made a skin and want to share it with you guys, but I used sounds from another skin, because I can't make my own, I don't know how.
What should I do? The sounds were taken from Rafis 2016 skin, but they can be found in a lot of other skins too, I can't find its creator.
All graphics are done by me, fonts I used are free for non-commercial use, icons I used for making mods icons are free too. Should I look for their creator as well?
