Just tried it myself. Wow. Why didn't I know of this earlier? ;_;

This has to be one of the funniest slider exploits out there. So awesome. I have a serious nomination I'll put up later, however.

There's no technique about stacking notes which occur at the very same location?

Eh, I really don't know if stacks would count as a "technique". They've been around since O1 and are used by almost everyone...

Yet only a handful can use them efficiently without making their maps look like a clusterfuck. It's still a technique.

Nomination: Triplet Streams

These are basically three circles mapped in a row at 1/4, but not stacked in the same location. Often mapped in groups (simply because that's how the music generally flows) like in the examples, but this isn't always the case.

Examples:
KOTOKO - Princess Bride!

ALI PROJECT - Seishoujo Ryouiki (TV size)

ZUN - Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke (because using your own maps as examples is what the cool kids are doing, right?!)

Wizard Of Orz
isn't that basically constant spacing
anonymous_old

supergarlic wrote:

The point is, there are many 1/4 triplets in succession forming some sort of pattern.

If you leave DS on your entire map you're probably going to get "constant spacing".

I meant, how to make some circles stack like this :

Not like this :

I really wanna know how to do that trick :o

The type of stacks you want to create are unrankable (They weren't unrankable a while back, which would explain any nonstacking in ranked maps.)

Don't care whether it's rankable or not  . That's a really great technique which I must know how to do!

Thanks for the info! I love you, seriously, love you!!

Keep in mind that is very unrankable.
FerreTrip
I was just gonna talk about that stacking trick, though I was going to talk about the kind of trick used in EBA's Highway Star (Sweatin' / Hard ROCK!!) and Ouendan 2's MUSIC HOUR (Insane, maybe Hard), both times in the chorus. What I mean is when they stack notes, but time them in such a fashion that you can't SEE when you hit--you just have to know. (It's FAR more annoying in Highway Star due to the weird rhythm, whereas MUSIC HOUR is just on the beat.) The reason for this is that there's a big point burst covering up the circle beneath it.

Would that be its own thing, or would that be unrankable as well, despite it being used in the very games osu! is based off of? If it IS able to be called its own thing, I'd like to nominate it. I sadly have no pictures to display what I mean.

(BTW: Just got Ouendan 1, totally noticing how much I would hate the Hard maps if they were on the big screen (aka computer screen). Interesting, no?)

osu! is not an authentic version of Ouendan. :P

I think leaving notes unstacked is okay if there's enough time between them for the latter note to reasonably be considered separate.

If notes are obviously unstacked where they should be, it's unrankable.

Name: Parallel Sliders.
Description: A group of sliders that are all parallel to each other, the slider starts may or may not be next to the ends and they may go any direction.

Image Examples(Warning, multiple images) :
SPOILER

From Nharox's The City is At War map, see how all the slider starts are at the same level.

From my Animaniacs map, see how they are diagonal rather then straight.

I was getting lazy at getting another example but this shows the starting points being right next to the slider ends, making it not a jump anymore.

Jesus Christ that was a bit too much, but I hope you get my point.

Slider Trains

A bunch of short sliders one after the other I guess, no other real way to explain it in words.

From Karen - Distorted Pain (Insane)

From dj TAKA - V2 (Another)

Nomination:

Windmill Sliders

A series of sliders (usually four in a row) which all originate from a shared center point, making the pattern look like a windmill blade. The sliders may not necessarily be curved, which can instead form a + or X design.

Feel Good Inc. is an obvious example because they show up in sync with the "windmill" lyrics.

Nomination:

Wiggle Sliders

SPOILER

Examples are from The Great Don Paolo by me and MetalMario's Space Oddity

These are one (or two on a fast song like the first screen) beat long sliders in a "wiggle" shape where it curves in one direction then the opposite direction. They're used to be a little more interesting than a regular straight slider.
mm201
Integral sign. ∫ydx

Or the slits on a violin.

"Wiggle sliders" makes me think of those ones that zigzag super rapidly.

Shinxyn
"Hold Sliders" (Could use a better name...)

Sliders where the bpm isn't just 0.5x, but 0.25x or 0.125x (with new red timing panels on each side). Usually the mouse doesn't have to be moved, but its confusing sometimes when the maps pace is fast...
Used to match the music though, not the map's pace.

Djpop uses this quite a bit.

Sudden spacing change like this?

For the above examples, I call them "Chaser Formations," since you have to kind've "Chase" after them. Speaking of which, I had originally had these in my Insane for "Sexy Vampire" but Cyclone said it made the map too hard =(

I think I'll put them back in, just with less distance between them. >_>

I second this. I don't have images at the moment due to being on the laptop, but Imogen Heap - Just for Now uses them, as well, in some respects. I also find myself using this technique when mapping slow songs (IE when I map most things I like).

Dunno how to call this, but I use it now-a-days. (And I see nobody else do it)
It's making an 1/2 slider, copy paste it while turning it verticly and horizantly, and then going on (with a circle or slider) on the beginning of the first slider.

That's because overlap sucks.

Nominating honeycomb beats. (Credit goes to m980 for the name.)

Basically, take a bunch of hitcircles, each a 1/2 apart, then arrange them on a hexagonal grid with a confusing (but spaced) order. You need to look at the approach circles or the numbers to figure out where you're going to next because otherwise, there are as many as five possible choices!

Examples:
Billy Fogarty - Jumpin' Jack Flash [Sweatin' / Hard ROCK!]
La Roux - Bulletproof [MetalMario's Hard]

I'm going narcissist here and nominate a technique I often use (and often get hated about).

I'm naming it Oibon Jumps. Oibon is a type of Japanese food, which had a parody in Taiko no Tatsujin wherein you can get enough gas from eating it and fart your way up to the top of Mt. Fuji, or rather emulating super-hyper-OKNFOKD-jumping. And for the fact that I first used it in a Taiko song.

This technique is simple but annoying to play with: two notes that are usually 1/2 apart, but end up being on opposite sides of the screen, hence an enormous jump. This is usually the product of copy-paste + flipping, but at times this can be utilized to full-effect on bumpy songs.

Found in maps:
Taiko no Tatsujin - Kumo Made Todoke [Oni]
Taiko no Tatsujin - Brouken Hiyori [Oni]
Paramore - That's What You Get [Hard]

Examples:
NoHitter
I'd like to nominate Post-spinner Notes

It's basically a note or series of notes directly after a long spinner at the end of the beatmap.
(And trust me, it catches some people of guard, who think that long spinners = end of beatmap)

Examples:
Hatsune Miku - Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu [Uninstall]

Tomohito Nishiura - Deserted Amusement Park [Mysterious]

Iwadare Noriyuki - Meta Knight's Revenge [Bridge]

People, please read the rules for nominating.

A few of these nominations have NOT been linking a RANKED map with the technique, which is a pain to look for. All nominations without a link for a RANKED map will be IGNORED. (or probably put to the end of the queue until a ranked map link is posted)
mm201
Square formations, eh?

Nominating Modified Square Formations.

Take a square formation but rearrange the order of notes such that at least one pair of notes are joined diagonally.

Examples:

  2. Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Christmas Nights in Blue [Normal] (MetalMario201)

Hehe. It's been a while since someone nominate some mapping techinique. I would like to nominate 2 techniques that I personally very like to use and they are present in almost all my maps. xD

Nomination 1 : Finish Jump

Basically means a jump usually at the end of a combo/lyric to emphasize the "power" of that music part. Usually a triangle jump or horizontal jump, and it fits the music well. Used widely, and I am not sure whether it has been nominated before or not...

Picture example are from my map V -conclusion- and Maze, respectively...

Example :
gdeath uses quite a lot of this technique
eufonius - Wonder -> Challenging difficulty
Shimotsuki Haruka - Kyouri Haruka -> Hard difficulty

Alace too
(a lot of his maps use such technique)

And of course I used it in my maps too...
dj TAKA - V -conclusion- -> Another difficulty
Savage Genius feat. Oomi Tomoe - Maze

Nomination 2 : Arch Jump

Well, the original typical linear arch jump.

Modified version of arch jump used in my map. *example, -V- conclusion*
This one is inverted/modified arch jump

Examples :
(lazy to find other examples, post my map here instead >.<"")
dj TAKA - V -conclusion- -> another difficulty
