Since there's a new sub-forum now (Thanks Echo!), I decided that instead of posting nominations in the threads, they can be posted here. :)

In order to nominate a technique, you must have and post:
  1. (Optional) A name for the technique (it can be an official name or one you make up)
  2. An accurate description of the technique (or alternatively, a screenshot of the technique)
  3. A link to atleast 2 ranked maps that have the technique. (The specific point in the map would help too)
PLEASE! Bold the name of the nomination so it is easier for us to notice!

Please only nominate one technique at a time (can't have 2 techniques nominated by the same person in a row.)

Current Nominations:
49. Differential Stacks

Either you missed my suggestion or you thought it sucked but i post it again if it was becuse you missed it

Segment sliders

This technique is many sliders on a row (this technique is often used with Etna sliders) and when a slider ends the next slider is placed there.

0:46:612 on Marisa wa Taihen na Mono wo Nusunde Ikimashita [Normal] is a good example of that :)

You're right. I remember seeing it, but I forgot to add it. Sorry about that.

im not sure if this is a clear picture but

Accelerated Spacing

The distans space between notes become further and further for every note on the time line. you can compare the red lines.

I don't think there any point in nominating Blanket Combos since there really isn't any reason for anyone not to like them. Basically it'll be a bunch of 4's and 5's and comments on how professional and nice looking it is.

Also, another nomination

Flower Combo
Basically a combo shaped like this
_1_2
6_7_3
_5_4
or something similar (will get screenshot and example later today)
Alace's Hyper in Marie Antoinette
James' Bad Apple

etc.
Behon
Two both used in Don't Stop Me Now, both involving sliders. The first is sort of "nesting" a circle in the curves of a slider:

And sliders sort of curving into each other:

Oh, sorry. Nominations have their own thread now.

I'd like to nominate Rainbow Sliders.

This is the name I give to the large, arc-shaped sliders which generally take up one half of the screen. Best used in places with long, climactic, held notes, sort of like spinners.

These are seen in 3oh!3 - Starstrukk and Dialga Palkia Battle, among other places. Very popular in EBA.

It noticed when playing IKU - Ko no Me Kaze, but many other ranked maps have this kind of "mapping technique".
It consists of two (usually) mirrored sliders with a beat in between. Sliders may also have other shapes than curved.

(i took this screen at 0:24:112 of the map linked above)

(i took this at 0:49:910 of Gojou Kai - Border of Life )

Sorry, i don't know what kind of name to give it >.<

awp
Given that the hitcircle acts as the origin or central focus of the pattern, and the sliders float around it in orbit like some kind of orbital slider electrons, I'd call it...

also Mega DJPop Deathstreams - still, deathstreams would be an interesting topic, you'd get some good discussion/controversy/flaming/polar opposite arguments going on with that one. Like faceman said, Blanket Sliders would be a mass of 4s, 5s, and general praise since they're delightful and artistic in a good way.

Ouendan1's variations tend to be more boomerang-shaped, whereas Ouendan2 likes to use closer to complete circles.

@awp: I use Orbital Electron Sliders all the time. Sort of a Blanket meets Mirror type thing.

"Slider Art"
They're mostly pretty, but sometimes seems like its very hard to follow during play, so I wonder if players like how they're more focused on looks rather than how it plays.

Examples-
Hatsune Miku - Shooting Star Hard to follow

Megurine Luka- Just Be FriendsThe Common Heart shape, does it appeal?

Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You (not yet ranked) Even Letters/Words

The shooting star example is something of an ugly one (mad slider overlap, pretty much unrankable) but it's good to have both good and bad examples.

Me too, I've started trying to make cool stuff out of long sliders in my maps lately and so I can totally appreciate the time and effort that went into making that shooting star look so great, even if it might be kind of hard to follow :<

Eh, I really don't know if stacks would count as a "technique". They've been around since O1 and are used by almost everyone...

Yet only a handful can use them efficiently without making their maps look like a clusterfuck. It's still a technique.

Nomination: Triplet Streams

These are basically three circles mapped in a row at 1/4, but not stacked in the same location. Often mapped in groups (simply because that's how the music generally flows) like in the examples, but this isn't always the case.

Examples:
KOTOKO - Princess Bride!

ALI PROJECT - Seishoujo Ryouiki (TV size)

ZUN - Reach for the Moon, Immortal Smoke (because using your own maps as examples is what the cool kids are doing, right?!)

Wizard Of Orz
isn't that basically constant spacing
anonymous_old

supergarlic wrote:

The point is, there are many 1/4 triplets in succession forming some sort of pattern.

If you leave DS on your entire map you're probably going to get "constant spacing".

The type of stacks you want to create are unrankable (They weren't unrankable a while back, which would explain any nonstacking in ranked maps.)

Set stack leniency in song setup to never stack.

Don't care whether it's rankable or not  . That's a really great technique which I must know how to do!

NICE! :P
Thanks for the info! I love you, seriously, love you!!
peppy
Keep in mind that is very unrankable.
FerreTrip
I was just gonna talk about that stacking trick, though I was going to talk about the kind of trick used in EBA's Highway Star (Sweatin' / Hard ROCK!!) and Ouendan 2's MUSIC HOUR (Insane, maybe Hard), both times in the chorus. What I mean is when they stack notes, but time them in such a fashion that you can't SEE when you hit--you just have to know. (It's FAR more annoying in Highway Star due to the weird rhythm, whereas MUSIC HOUR is just on the beat.) The reason for this is that there's a big point burst covering up the circle beneath it.

Would that be its own thing, or would that be unrankable as well, despite it being used in the very games osu! is based off of? If it IS able to be called its own thing, I'd like to nominate it. I sadly have no pictures to display what I mean.

(BTW: Just got Ouendan 1, totally noticing how much I would hate the Hard maps if they were on the big screen (aka computer screen). Interesting, no?)

osu! is not an authentic version of Ouendan. :P
mm201
I think leaving notes unstacked is okay if there's enough time between them for the latter note to reasonably be considered separate.

If notes are obviously unstacked where they should be, it's unrankable.

Name: Parallel Sliders.
Description: A group of sliders that are all parallel to each other, the slider starts may or may not be next to the ends and they may go any direction.

Image Examples(Warning, multiple images) :
SPOILER

From Nharox's The City is At War map, see how all the slider starts are at the same level.

From my Animaniacs map, see how they are diagonal rather then straight.

I was getting lazy at getting another example but this shows the starting points being right next to the slider ends, making it not a jump anymore.

Jesus Christ that was a bit too much, but I hope you get my point.

KC is doing a wonderful job making the rating threads.

If anyone else does it he'll yell at us : (

No idea how dead these rating topics are but regardless, I'd like to nominate a technique that I especially like.

Slider Trains

A bunch of short sliders one after the other I guess, no other real way to explain it in words.

Example pictures:

From bubbles - F (Insane)

From Karen - Distorted Pain (Insane)

From dj TAKA - V2 (Another)

Nomination:

Windmill Sliders

A series of sliders (usually four in a row) which all originate from a shared center point, making the pattern look like a windmill blade. The sliders may not necessarily be curved, which can instead form a + or X design.

Feel Good Inc. is an obvious example because they show up in sync with the "windmill" lyrics.

Weren't Etna sliders basically an awp creation, but now they're common? And even if he wasn't the first, someone was.

Wiggle Sliders

SPOILER

Examples are from The Great Don Paolo by me and MetalMario's Space Oddity

These are one (or two on a fast song like the first screen) beat long sliders in a "wiggle" shape where it curves in one direction then the opposite direction. They're used to be a little more interesting than a regular straight slider.
mm201
