New OTwiki?

Yes I know we already have the OT wiki page in the osu! wiki. And I know that sametdze has made also made a OT wiki. but I wanna ask if you guys would be interested in making a new OT-wiki. It would work kinda like Wikipedia.

What would the wiki contain?

I would say the wiki would contain pages about:

- OT history/lore
- Notable OT'ers
- OT events
- OT common thread types/ metas
- maybe each denizen gets a page? idk

How would we host it?

We can use MediaWiki (same software that wikipedia uses) or Wiki.js (more modern) I can host it on my webserver and eventually on a VPS.

I could also buy a domain although it would have to end in .pt or some other obscure domain because otwiki.com / .org is going for 1k+ euros

Well I think that making the osu! OT wiki more detailed is a bad idea. I think it's near perfect rn and making it more complicated would hinder it's purpose.

Editing sametdze wiki could work but im not a big fan of using wikidot.

idk, I think having a detailed wiki is going a bit too far, the vibe I get from OT is more of a online friend group, like a discord server, and you wouldn't do a wiki for a discord

Although I do see what you mean, I would want more a wiki to serve a similar purpose the chronicles have (but hopefully more readable and user friendly).

true true. perhaps having a discord channel/section for this or a pinned thread would be better(?)

it's pretty intuitive but its so fucking ugly. But tbh I would be down to use ur version of the wiki, although people don't seem very fond of the idea of a osu!wiki apparently

I'll host a cliki wiki if you want.
Corne2Plum3
Making a thread or a Discord server aren't suitable for collaborative editing. And the wikidot website was kinda bad tbh, barely usable on mobile (in 2025).

I'm not against a wiki project anyways, even a new one given how sametdze project contains very few contents

does cliki support embedded images?

Yeah I agree, good mobile support is a must & discord wouldn't work for collaborative editing. I say that we should use wikimedia (the same stuff wikipedia uses) or cliki (assuming it support embedded images)

you didn't have to use a tone indicator. A man of your intellect would never suggest using fandom seriously.

the wiki being disgustingly ugly is my fault, it's pretty easy to change it to something more pretty

You know, I never checked XD Based on this, I think it's just the <img> tag. The one page I've found with an image so far on cliki.net is this one, which is just an <a> and <img> when I go to edit the page, so I guess it does.

So if you host them off site, then yes, I suppose it technically does. I'd prefer not to host images, if only because I already host other stuff on the machine and want to ensure space is well allocated (I have multiple terabytes left, but still).

There's also wiki.gg, which is MediaWiki. Looks like they vet new wikis though their ticketing system, which is how you request one, though.

Fair enough, I think I might just host one with MediaWiki I think having images would be important.

Yeah, probably the best move. Don't ask how I forgot about images, must be too brainrotted.

A good chunk of people with entries on it were genuinely deranged

in fact, the leafyishere discord server in general was like OT but way more edgy, and had some really retarded lore.

A wiki could definitely work for OT if it could work for Leafycord

I kinda disagree with the vibe. People active here keeps rotating, and I don't think there's much connection between the older members of OT and the newest one... Reducing OT as a group of people isn't accurate for me

The osu! Wiki for OT isn't wikipedia style? It matches the wikipedia layout to some degree and at its current state it's pretty good. It's free of cost, you don't have to buy anything. You just need some GitHub knowledge and good editing skills. I rarely read the osu wiki though but I've seen it enough. This is like putting work and effort into a thing which may or may not be that feasible. In my opinion. Rest is up to you always.

they'd be a bit confused when they see another guy asking for an OTwiki

(for context i already tried with miraheze and they said no because "muh bias rule")

You're right but this is the way discord groups and and friend groups IRL work, people just come and go

another thing i'm worried about is let's say we make a wiki official and it gets really active, wouldn't people try to aim to have the biggest wiki page they can?, having a wiki page is cool, and having a big wiki page would be cooler, wouldn't OT just start having a lot of posts of people trying to bait and force situation so where they can expand their wikipedia page?

i've already talked about this in the past more extensively, but I think we're often trying to push OT in it being this grandiose kingdom with it's own culture and language, when in practice it really is not, I can understand and appreciate the RP and the effort put into it, but I don't want that to fuck with the actual current dynamic we have going on. There is nothing wrong with it, we don't really need to aim to be bigger and greater than we reall are, if someone comes new to OT I would like them to just feel comfortable to start poting and commenting, to show that we don't bite, not to really intimidate them by saing "oh yeah we have a wiki and 10 years of history and our lore is actually super complex" and the such
Ymir
all these words when you could have just said "i hate fun"
Corne2Plum3
Honestly I find the current dynamic quite boring. No more RP nor big collaborative projects. Really these last months in OT are pretty forgettable. If people want to be creative, let them do that

agree to disagree I guess, personally in a friend group there isn't a need to really try to do big projects or try to spark changes in the dynamic but sure, you do you

I disagree with this at so many levels it's insane.
How exactly do you think that new people react to OT? when I first started posting here I was so fucking clueless about all these little inside jokes and such. I wouldn't "get" many threads cause they required so much prior knowledge about users/their personalities and lore. This problem is huge and it's the biggest thing stopping new users from posting here. OT is full of lurkers like packed to the brim, we know that because of that AI generated osu! is dead post. Anyways the wiki would address that. It could help new users learn about OT history more quickly and integrate faster. The Chronicles would already "scare" new users they are probably 1km of scrolling for history up to a year ago all in text format with no images.

Don't try to rationalize a fun project, just make it. The Wiki won't be as useful as you intend it to be to new users, since most people don't really spend much time looking into OT; but it would be a cool read for us already active users.

Don't you think commiting harder to those threads that require previous knowledge, which given the front page, there are only a couple of them will make it better?, like if people started once again baiting and forcing lore, makign the quantity of that OT centric thread increase, that's going to make it better for people like you? Oh, but now we got a wiki with a hundred 500 word articles each, that is SO MUCH user friendly than just being able to start postign right away and getting the gist of things with time.

also no, there aren't that many lurkers in OT, there have already been polls and thread in the past, and no, that AI thread had new users because it was originally posted I think on the developement forum, and then was moved to OT.

Also I don't think the chronicles are that much of a detraction to new people in OT. Half of you don't even read the threads or the complete post history on a given thread, and I feel new users carry that mentality with them, it's not like you come into OT with a interest to learn and read and then 5 days in you lose all motivation.

Bro no one is going to make more lore threads because of a Wiki. And I don't intend people to read the wiki first. I intend for people to post get curious about OT and then read the wiki. But you know what I think Ymir is right and realistically it will serve as a sort of thing for current users to look at instead. Anyways, the average OT'er is to lazy to read a thread all the way through and they are also to lazy to make forced lore. And even if they did it probably wouldn't catch on. When me and Gengar9nn did that PFO ARG (shit with political parties) multiple people were calling us out for trying to "force lore" or "copying the past" even though we weren't.

if y'all are commited to doing this, just use sametdze's wiki

trying to make a new wiki is going to led up to everyone just wanting to use a different software or have a different UI layout or whatever, you will never get this off the ground, if what you want are articles, start writing, you can migrate it later if need be.
