Night in the woods

really good

Night in the woods is a game that I wouldn't really know how to describe with a genre. There is no real gameplay, you just walk around and talk to people. It's a narrative focused game first and it shows

the game is about a university students who drops out and returns to her decadent small american town, where she reunites with her old group of friends and then shit happens

The plot is very introspective, it's entirerily surrounding the protagonist psyche and the systems at hand that led her to that situation. The protagonist of night in the woods is very much kind of an asshole, however, the longer you play the game the more you understand why she acts like that, it doesn't imply that it's justified or the correct thing to do but you do understand her. Even when the plot gets crazier later, everything can be understood and taken as a metaphor, a representation of herself and her wellbeing

The way the dialogue is written feels very natural, and I would attribute it to a writing trend that has taken over indie gaming that maybe you could trace back to undertale. Whenever you play a AAA. Since forever, whenever you read a book or watch a movie, that dialogue isn't 1:1 what would be said IRL. It is more poetic, it is more contrived to keep the plot going, but if you look at night in the woods you would find the dialogue more raw, and that is because it doesn't take inspiration from the way dialogue is written in novels and films, but on how we communicate over the internet

this gives the dialogue a much different feel. It's sloppier it's dumber it uses less complex vocabulary but that is what makes it feel real. The game is also very slice of life-ish, as the game is just about the protagonist trying to live her daily life in peace and trying to find her way forward in life, so there isn't that constant tension of "oh we need to have this character just do exposition dialogue oh we need to make the protagonist say this to advance the plot"

placed in A rank, really great videogames, will update the tier list in a few hours as I can't do so rn

----------

still playing evoland 2, i'm close to getting the fragment of time so you can locate in what part of my playthrough I am rn
Nice, I'll catch a couple more good quick story games for when you're done with those

Railgun:

It's a fun anime, but far from a well written anime

Railgun is a spinoff of index, which I haven't seen, it's about this girl, misaka, who lives in this cool city where some people have powers and she is just one of the strongest. There is no real ovearching plot to railgun, there are different arcs and villains misaka must defeat but that's about it

railgun is a anime that is made to be able to run forever, you can just keep adding arcs and arcs until you get bored and then you put a big villain that makes reference to everything else and then for the defeat of them to mark the end of the show

the main cast is solid with the exception of kuroko, whose whole thing is that she is madly in love with misaka and she just constantly sexually harasseses her in a way that it's meant to be funny

there isn't much of character growth, in fact that's the biggest problem of the anime IMO. In some of the early arcs misaka gets in problems because she isn't very trusting of her friends, for in the end learn that they should trust them more and solve it for then to repeat it in following arcs. In fact starting s2 the story tries to kinda write off every character but miaska from the anime, which is interesting

the fanservice is also really bad, there is a lot of it and it adds nothing

having said all of that, I had fun and while I admit it's not very polished the clone arc of s2 felt cool enough for me. Placed in A rank.

should I watch index first
What I think:
If I'm not mistaken, you've already started watching in the "wrong order" (I don't know of any alternative order that begins with all three seasons of Railgun first, as this might make things more confusing later), so I'm not sure, but I don't remember Accelerator appearing much in Index (though I don’t remember much about the Toaru series). Index is a bit different and longer, so I think watching Accelerator now would be fine.

What ChatGPT thinks:
Since you've already watched all of Railgun, I think it's better to watch Index next. Accelerator does appear in Index, but his role is not as prominent at first. Index is longer and introduces key story elements, so watching it first will help you understand everything better. But if you really want to see more of Accelerator right now, you can watch his spin-off first—just keep in mind that Index II will provide more context for his story.

Summary: Your advice is not completely wrong, but it could lead to a confusing path. It would be better to recommend Index before Accelerator to keep the story more coherent. 🚀

Evoland 2:

ngl, it was dissapointing

Evoland 1 was a very short and sweet game where the game mechanics were consistently evolving (as the name implies) so it never overstayed it's welcome and constantly felt fresh, evoland 2 is a lot bigger in scope, it's longer and they had more of a budget, but I think a lot of what made evoland 1 good was lost in evoland 2

Evoland 2 doesn't share that same core idea of starting at retro gaming and moving into modern day, instead, it's closer to a chrono trigger inspired RPG, with the gimmick that it consistently changes it's playability with each section. You got your zelda type combat like in the first game, you also got your ATB combat which still fucking sucks ass I hate ATB but that is a lot more reduced, in top of that you throw in tactic combats like in fire emblem, shoot em up/bullet hell mode like in touhou, beat em up combat like streets of rage, etc

I don't dislike the playability of any of these modes (except atb), but as they're just short segments they don't really go indepth, this was also the case for evoland 1. If the section is going to be short and sweet you're not going to actually put all the complexity of fire emblem or a turn based combat as carefully designed as chained echoes, again, the problem is that in evoland 2 these sections are way longer, so that lack of depth and progression really start to hurt the game

it's also a lot more confusing, while evoland 1 was a very lineal game with every new unlock giving you a clue on what you need to do to move onto the next segment, evoland 2 doesn't have that same sense of direction now that you're not constantly unlocking mechanics. It doesn't help that at one point in the game you're just told you need to obtain 5 thingies and that you can tackle them in any order. Still, it's not as confusing where you MUST use a guide to understand how to progress, if you put in the time you will find the way forward no problem, but it's still enough of a inconvenience that for me it was just more fun to open up a guide

the plot is there, it exists, and it's way more of a focus than in evoland 2. It brings out a few interesting questions with the time travel stuff, problem is that they do their best to avoid answering the questions in a way that feel meaningful. For example, in the plot the future is fucked and the protagonist wants to change it, but the hero's party also has a member that is from the past, and from their pov the present of our protagonist is actually apocalyptic and they argue that they should the past to prevent their present. Problem is that in order for them to solve this fairly interesting point they just introduce a cosmic beyond-time big bad that everyone can agree that they must defeat. So that whole point of whose future should be preserved is just left in the dust

sadly placed in D tier, still, pretty good to get both evoland 1 and 2 out of my plan to play, thay had ben there for a couple years

A Certain Scientific Accelerator

bad

this is yet another spinoff of index (i've not seen index) which follows the character accelerator. In many ways this anime is a expanded version or a companion to what is IMO the best arc in railgun, which makes this all the more dissapointing

accelerator doesn't have a very strong cast of characters, accelerator by itself feels like a very plain character, it feels very two-dimensional, very "i'm borderline psychotic!" and that never changes, it's not as bad when it's a throaway villain in a action anime which is meant to run forever, like railgun, but when they're the main character, it's ehhhhh

and then you have the clones, which were interesting when combined with misaka, but on their own they don't have very much charm

the actual plot doesn't really do anythign particullary interesting, it doesn't raise questions or really try much at all, ot's mostly "look how strong accelerator is!" for 12 episodes

it's just a very plain, boring, forgettable anime

3-gatsu no lion

already had read the manga but I was requested to watch the anime

3-gatsu no lion is a anime about this child prodigy shogi trying to navigate life, having to manage school, family, friends, shogi, etc. It's a really beautiful and melancholic anime.

Whenever we hear about a child prodigy or whatever IRL we always make the (incorrect) assumption that they're going to have it easy in life, that they will only continue to improve, this anime argues that it's not true, that they may be smart at shogi but that doesn't mean life is any less complicated, that his position in lie is actively alienating and borderline detrimental in certain aspects. However the protagonist is never ungrateful for their life, they realize all of this, yet they don't reject is as they can see that every path in life will have it's own complications, it's just that theirs is a little bit more unique.

The anime has a strong focus on personal growth and realization. Every character in this anime is at a crossroads in life, they are at critical ages, they are leading with problems with deep ramifications, and how everyone leads with it and express their frustrations in different ways.

You are not meant to agree with every action taken by every character, in fact that is nearly impossible to do given that there are many conflicting viewpoints, but they make sure that you understand their thought process. The protagonist not only has very intense narration, but their thoughts are displayed in shogi. Shogi is a slow sport and extremely mental, so it fits really well with the tone of the anime. Add a little bit of storytelling magic and now you got very poetic matches that tie in with what every character is going through

This is not a new concept, 3-gatsu no lion isn't breaking new ground with this, sport anime has already been doing this for decades, I'm just pointing it works really well on 3-gatsu no lion

this anime doesn't really have a single message on what you should in life or what lessons it's trying to teach, but it's more inviting you to reflect and just think about things. How you interpret the situation and what lessons you take from everything is left up to the viewer.

now, a small complaint that I know it's just a me thing. In S2 there is a bullying arc, I feel it's meant to be very emotional and stuff but it just didn't hit for me. The anime up to that point hadn't been exactly emotional, the characters were going through emotional things yes, but me as the viewer, was looking at it thinking about the situation, trying to interpret it and learn from it, my emotions were not 1:1 the ones with the characters on screen. In that arc they pump the emotion up to 11, but I just couldn't get into it. This wasn't a anime I was watching with my guard down, the pacing was not there either, and whenever you see something that you know it's meant to be emotional but you don't really feel it just feels really bad

now as I said at the beginning, I have read the manga (it's still ongoing but i've read more than what is adapted so far), so how does it hold with the original material? In general it has a very different tone, the manga is very, very, very text heavy. It's in fact overwhelming, just having this complete avalanche of thoughts, having 3 different ongoing conversations in a single episode mixing narration, thought process and actual conversation. The anime is A LOT easier to watch than the manga is to read. This is neither positive or negative, it's just a different experience. Personally I enjoyed the manga more as I think it aligned more with the way I was reading it.

here are two manga pages to show what i'm taling about

and now from a different chapter
it's a lot at first glance, it's in many ways borderline scary whenever you turn the page and see that

now for the animation, I think it was quite good, it has this more traditional japanese artstyle that I think really feets well with the central theme of shogi. The manga has really good paneling as well but that as we know can't be translated into anime.

I think it was quite good even if I enjoyed it a little bit less than the manga, A rank.

baby invasion

----

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Baby Invasion is a experimental movie made gummo's director Harmony Korine. The gimmick of this movie is that it's some sort of gameplay for a hyper realistic videogame called "Baby Invasion", in this game it's not very clear what you do. The movie is essentially plotless, this is a vibes movie.

The movie is just this guy walking around with a first person, fish eye lens camera attached to the head POV, with 4:3 screen resolution, random twitch chat overlapping and facecam appearing and disappearing at random intervals.

This movie fundamentally doesn't understend gaming, streaming or the internet. First of all, the game (and the movie in general) is really fucking boring, whenever you say you want a hyperrealistic game, what follows after is usually hyperviolence, of which this movie has little. So the fact that this would even have a audience of twitch chat members is honestly unrealistic

secondly, this chat is in russian, japanese, english and spanish, I only speak the later two languages, but i'm pretty sure the spanish comments are either created by chatGPT or google translate. The way this is written is like a film/book guy trying to write twitch chat, not how twitch chat actually is or how people in the internet actually speak.

I say chatGPT because this movie already uses AI extensively to cover the face of the actors and for a couple extra things

Another thing that annoys me is that the movie, the gameplay has cuts, but the chat is uninterrupted, if this is another vibes choices I don't get it

the actual "game" also has minigames and shit in it, in general it's just again, all vibes but completely and utterly nonsensical

One point of the movie is that it's so realistic that you can't know if it's a videogame or reality, which would be a interesting point if they did anything with it

to finish off, I read the wikipedia article on this movie and found this interesting paragraph

wikipedia wrote:

Baby Invasion premiered out of competition at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2024.[1] During the Venice press conference, Korine sat next to visual effects artist Joao Rosa and fellow filmmaker Gaspar Noé, who was wearing a neon green mask, and smoked a cigar, causing smoke to fill the conference room. He expressed that "Hollywood ... would be smart to — encourage the youth, the kids. Why we're starting to see Hollywood crumble creatively is because they’re losing a lot of the most creative minds to gaming and to streaming. They're so locked in on convention and then all those kids who are so creative are now just going to find other pathways and go to other places because movies are no longer the dominant art form." He also revealed that, "When we release the film, there'll be a way to watch it through your phone, but there'll be certain codes within the movie that'll take you to other movies. So the film, what you're seeing, is just a base layer film. There'll be three or four other sub films."[5]

this war of mine (dropped)

----

sadly could not get into it :(

this war of mine is a resource management game about the horrors of war. You manage a small refugee colony inside a warzone, during the day yo ueat and craft, during the night you scavange for resoruces. The game is heavily random, it's unfair, it's a bad experience, but this is on purpouse, as war is like this

my problem is the gameplay. You're in a refugee situation, it's meant to be tense and awful and scary, this game is not doing that for me, I don't feel tension, I kinda just feel... bored, I know it's probably heartless of me but I don't think the gameplay is doing a good job of getting me into that state of mind it seeks. The day segments involve a lot of waiting, and so far it's not like i'm running out of time to do whatever I need to do, the night segment are a bit better but savescumming is way too powerful as you can restart from the beginning of the day without much cost, and you can keep rerolling until the RNG is good enough and you find a good enough route

you may say "well then just stop savescumming" but honestly, what's the difference between restarting a single day and restarting the whole playthrough?, the second one takes more time, but that's about it, in both cases you're just rerolling until you learn of a good route and get good RNG

it's a shame because this company/studio actually made my favourite resource managing game, frostpunk, which actually completely solves this problem, it's extremely tense and feels frustrating just in the right way, you think you're doing so good and then everything goes to shit, with frostpunk savescumming does not work since it's often mistakes you did like an hour ago biting you in the ass now, so you're meant to start a new playthrough, however the difference between one playthrough and the next is massive, as there is A LOT more of a learning curve and optimization than this war of mine

Bastion

Solid game

Bastion is the first game by supergiant games, this game was a hit on it's own right, but they're mostly known today as the creators of hades, (fantastic game btw).

The gampeplay is actually not that different from hades, they're both relatively fast paced action games where you unlock a lot of new weapons and fighting styles with a fair ammount of metaprogression, the difference is that hades is a roguelike and this isn't. This game actually just features a very traditional, very tipical level selection screen

there isn't that much in terms to plot to go through, while there is a plot, It's not really the focus, I feel the point was the combat, which was fun

ost is pretty solid, I actually had listened to that last song somewhere before and I was like "holy shit so this is where it comes from"

I don't really have much to say about the game in general, it was fun, I enjoyed, not the type of game I would usually cover in this thread but since I knew I was going to finish it anyways, eh, why not

pleasently surprised, good game

Another game by supergiant games, creators of bastion, the previous game I covered. This game is about this singer girl who picks up a super cool technological sword that gives her powers and it's her duty to restore the world, funny that both bastion and this are about restoring the world

the game is once again, a top down hack and slash, however this is more original than bastion and I would even say more original than hades, the game by itself is very fast, you're going to be overwhelmed easily, but you can quite literally stop time, planify your moves and then do a perfect sequence, and you can do that on a cooldown, I really liked this, adds more tactical depth to the combats above just "go hit things very fast very hard"

the skill system is also generally pretty genius, you have 4 ability slots and a lot of skill functions, every skill function can also be applied as a mod for another function or as a passive. Most of these effects aren't very different to what the base attack does, so you can just have the skill of shooting a laser with the debuff and damage of the melee attack, which makes it fairly well balanced

now for me the best part is how they force you to make lots of different builds. If everything is well balanced and new skills don't power creep, how do you encourage the player to experiment?, in this game, after you lose all your health, you don't die, instead, you regen to max health BUT you lose a function you're currently using, and that function won't be available until 2 checkpoints later. Meaning, you once again have to go to the drawing board and design a new build

it's hard to die, but at the same time the is tension because you don't want to lose your super cool build, but again, not losing makes it not very likely that you lose progress, which feels bad

now, having said that, I kinda wish the game was harder. The game has this thing called limiters that you can use to buff enemies, kinda how you can increase the difficulty of your runs in hades or how you can buff enemies in bastion, this carries with itself a xp boost but honestly it's so small that if you turn it on it's mostly because of you wanting a harder difficulty

even with all my available limiters on, the game was really never that hard, so for me to lose a function was difficult and only happened a few times during the playthrough, I wish I was forced to experiment even harder. Bastion defenitively felt like a harder game, I didn't go all blessings on that game, but that also may just be me being better at strategy than real time action combat

The game is also very short, I beat it in only 3 days playing maybe a hour and a half each day, which, honestly good length

I really don't have much to comment on the story, it's cleary not the focus and everything in terms of worldbuilding and plot is very limited

ost is good as usual

not very strong opinions about this one

this movie is your typical obsessive detective investigates murder in small town, it really does not do anything that you haven't seen alerady a bunch of times, it's more of the same for people who are into that. It's quiet and slow to give this feeling of complexity and drama but it doesn't really say anything particullary deep

the biggest attraction of this movie is that it's a australian movie about australia, but i'm not australian so idk

I completely forgot to write about this movie, I think that showcases my thoughts on this perfectly

It's just bad, it features a very simple and unoriginal western story, with some famous actors on it but that's about it, while the actors themselves are famous the general level of acting in this movie is pretty bad and idk I think i've already forgotten about the plot of this movie

how did you even discover this movie/why did you think of requesting it?

FLCL

it's fineeeeeeeee

FLCL is a 6 episode OVA mecha anime created by gainax, most famously the studio behind evangelion. It's short, and it places all of it's bets on the animation. The story isn't bad by any means, but it really feels they're just letting the animation and comedy breathe rather than try to tell a super deep complex storyline

the actual animation is pretty neat, there are some pretty original shots like the manga one in chapter 1 and the end and the famous 3d rotating shock gif that you've seen hundreds of time

now, did I actually laugh that much while watching it?, no, not really

do I feel that the animation is actually really fucking interesting outside it being a neat comedy piece?, no, not really, while it is avant garde it doesn't really do anything that I go "oh more animes should adapt this" or did it have anything where I go "ohh so flcl coined this technique"

I feel a lot of the fame this anime has mainly comes from the cult following studio gainax has developed over the years, but personally it just didn't hit that much

Lycoris Recoil

it's nice

lycoris recoil is a action/slice of life-ish about this group of people called the lycoris which are basically secret police dressed as high school students because it's "urban camouflage" (it's just moe)

I feel there are two main, and fairly distinct element in this anime, you have the segment where the actual plot is happening with the arms deal and conspiracy and mistery and then you have all the moments of just the two main protagonist living their life together

I don't think the actual mistery part is that well fleshed out, I think the villain motivations are weak, the plan idiotic at best, and in general I don't think it has much to say. It constantly talks about this balance between the different factions and how it must always be equivalent but honestly idk where they were going with that

every character has a marked and very strong personality, in many ways them """"camouflaging"""" as high school studetns help beacuse it's more normal for someone in that age range to behave in that way, however all the adults are the same with like 2 exceptions so I don't think they really thought about it that much

they're not exactly complex or deep or whatever, they're just cute, which works well enough for the slice of life segments but no so much for the big mistery action thing.

In many ways I feel those two things are at odds with each other, a lot of the time they just use the action segments asa a plot device to get them into cute situations at homes, and sometimes they just talk about panties for a whole episode without much explanation or plot relevance in the future

it's a anime that I respect but honestly I think they would have been better off just embracing the slice of life elements (or maybe even going full yuri because yeah there is a lot of yuri bait in lycoris), I feel they just used guns and death and destruction as a way to get audiences that aren't directly interested in that type of anime due to the negative connotation that we have here of the slife of life genre to watch it, which I can understand but I just think this anime is as inferior version of what it could have been

anyways, I still enjoyed it, placed on B rank

I don't remember that much as i've probably saw that anime 5-6 years ago by now, but I will do my best to recall everything, I also wont mention the movie as I assume you just have finished watching the anime and you've not seen it.

Violet evergarden is about this girl who was born in the frontlines, and was raised as a soldier, told to ignore any sort of human emotion, but as the war ends, she must fit in society for the first time ever, in doing so she obtains a job writing letters for people who don't know how to write

The catch of that job is that we don't write the same way we speak, and in order to be good at the job you had to write something different than they were saying, to convey the feelings in a more effective way, feelings our protagonist doesn't understand

The cards that the protagonist must write are not exactly business letters or very plain things, but instead, they're all very emotional. For someone uneducated to pay the not insignificant ammount of money required to get a letter written and sent, it requires for something big to happen. By listening on the story the protagonist is also adquiring second hand life experiences that later makes her grow as a person, and that is reflected on her writing

the appareance of the protagonit is also very interesting. In the war, she lost a arm, so she has a prosthetical arm. This works to dehumanize her, to make her feel more of a robot, the rest of the anime is trying to fight against that perception of her and really show she is still just human

there is also a romance subplot that sets up a logical climax to the story. Feeling first hand love is a good way to show the character has already reached a point where she's functional in society, that she has learned to understand and express emotion, however most of that comes in the movie.

the animation is beautiful and the constant traveling of our protagonist really allows them to really flex that.

Great anime, really enjoyed, placed on A rank

The Master and Margarita (sadly dropped)

this is going to be a weird one, TLDR, I sadly could not get through this book, although, I don't think the book is bad by any means, and it's definitively not going to stop me from talking at length from a related tho largely not directly relevant to the books topic.

The Master and Margarita is a masterpiece of global literature, a part of the literary canon, one of the best and most important novels from the USSR and in general that entire century, it's been discussed at length by many scholars, but sadly, myself, a 19yo, it student in a medium size city in spain, wasn't really vibing with it

whenever I made this thread I made it under a certain thought and philosophy, even tho I actually didn't directly think all of this back then. I just like to talk about stuff, not only that, but I do think of myself as someone who, compared with the rest in OT is well cultured, therefore making my thoughts and general analysis of certain works remotely interesting. In addition, it gets me to break new ground, get out of my comfort zone and try new things.

most media I interact with, and most media that was requested on this thread, are very friendly to that type of conversation, however, classic books are a different beast, not because they're long or wordy or complex, but because they feel solved, as I said earlier, this is a book that has discussed at length by people way smarter than me. The edition that I got from the book even starts with a fairly long prologue that is just an essay of the editor about the book themes and message, that completely changes the way I engage with it, not just because the essay puts a certain expectation and ideals onto my mind, just that concept of that essay existing, and it having a wikipedia page as long as it is, that changes the dynamic

The way I feel is that I can't just read the book, enjoy it my way, and just interpret it here (which there probably will be a lot of very bad interpretations that just have not been corrected by other people, be that indifference, people not reading the review, or people thinking I was onto something, I do not know, probably a mix of all of them). But instead, it feels like i'm just trying to get and understand and follow that official explanation. That opinion feels like a authority, it feels like an exam

I don't read that many books, I enjoy them, but it's not my primary fix, and I feel that these people writing the wikipedia and the essay and the reviews are completely right. If I come to a different opinion, that's a failure on me as a reader, on my reading comprehension, at the end of the day, they got the historical context, they got a better view and general understanding on the medium, hell, they even studied that at university

I can't possibly come up with anything that they haven't alraedy said, and if I were to do so, I would probably feel like i'm reading it wrong. This thread has kinda conditioned to actually just look at everything with a critical eye, and just doing that in this book is stressful, that doesn't really happen in any other medium. The whole concept of the literary cannon and universal literature, the culture surrounding it, just doesn't exist in movies for example. Even if there are people who have studied movies as much as people do literature, and even if there are movies that have been discussed to earth and back, it stills feels legal to give your opinion, the sentiment is different

so what's my actual opinion on the book?, well, i've not got much of one, I actually just started reading this book during dead time in class, like I normally do with most literature. But be it the pressure of the final exames or whatever, I didn't get completely hooked into it, and I grew a bit distracted reading it, at some point my brain just stopped registering the words, and while I tried to get back in the groove, reading this book felt like a slog and I just wasn't enjoying it. I got to chapter 20 before dropping it. I bet that if I were to give the book a second chance, starting again from page 1, and force myself to not try to read it like I would a typical book I could probably enjoy it, I just don't reall want to do that.

it's just, i've learnt I don't like reading books like this, again, they just feel stressful man. Don't take it against universal literature tho, I think that's just a personal problem of me having the wrong mental, i've not met or read anything online that shares a sentiment like the one I have on this topic, so it's probably just a me thing.

Honestly this may just be a manifestation of my academical stress in book form LMAO

Radiation House

------------

I think the core of this manga is really good, it's just maybe there is too much fluff, the good is too diluted

Radiation House is a still ongoing medical drama manga following a radiologist who is very good and very skilled. The structure of the manga is quite reminiscent of a CGDCT manga, as it is fairly goaless. It's not a murder mistery when, whenver they catch the killer that's the end of the manga, instead patients just come and go, and the manga showcases different problems and different diagnosis and tries to educate the reader.

This is a manga with A LOT of exposition dialogue, because again, I feel a lot of the focus of this manga is purely educational. The protagonist will dedicate a whole chapter about monologuing about the specific intricacies of a diagnosis citing real world cases, I think it's a very interesting read in that regard, and again, reminds me of CGDCT anime, as those are also very educational.

At least for the first third or so of the manga, it also humanizes the profession of a radiologist quite a bit. First of all, they just do diagnosis, they aren't doing the surgeries or curing the patients, and sometimes you just got to say to the patient "lmao you're going to die", which is sad, and I really like that. Another aspect is that it shows that medical professionals can also make mistake, that health science is complicated, that while the career may be long, there are still new advancemetns and things that are not taught, and that the medics may not yet understand

What I do dislike is that there is a subtle powerscaling on the manga, I feel the cases do get more intense, kinda abandoning what I said of humanizing the radiologist and having the protagonist be extremely heroic and superhuman, like in one section where they solve a crime, I don't know, I felt that was excessive, they start trying to add more character arcs and drama between the cast and I just think it pushes the manga away from what it does best, that is all the actual medical stuff

the art is really solid but I don't think the manga takes much advantage on it. I remember, it was around chapter 35, I remember there being some panels that quite shocked me in how good they were, and further along the manga you can spot really subtle techniques and stuff that are REALLY good but the manga doesn't really allow the art to shine, I don't think there are many big panels or moments where you can go "holy shit the art is GOOD" which is a shame because really, the mangaka can draw very, very well

so yeah, just a solid manga where I don't think all the potential is realized, the good segments are really good but I wish there was less stuff between the good segments you know
