The Breadwinner

the breadwinner is a western animated movie about how shitty the taliban are, it's alright

the plot is pretty simplistic, it's a family where the parent gets arrested and the girl pretends she's a boy so she can make some money while also trying to get her dad out of prision. My problem with this movie is that it doesn't really say much, it just validates the believes we already had coming in, and that is that the taliban are pretty misogynist, the animation looks okay, it's nothing too remarkable

it's not the most emotional film, not the most interesting film, it just doesn't have a strong point, it does everything well but nothing exceptionally well, it's kinda boring in that regard

I don't know, it's fine I guess, placed in C tier

also in the process of logging this on letterboxd I found someones school project and I think it's funny

GTA IV

I'm very dissapointed

This is the first time i've ever played any GTA game, which is surprising since it's one of the most popular videogame franchises in the world, I knew kinda how it operated and what it was about, but never actually played it, so now that i've played, I don't think it's a very good videogame

First of all, the GTA IV PC port fucking sucks, The 100% legal download I took for this game already included a modpack that supposedly fixed most of the bugs, but even with that, I've still faced crashes, graphical issues, and i've clipped through the floor once, all of these things have made me have to restart the mission. Although, it's still playable, annoying, but playable,

GTA IV has a plot, it's about this russian immigrant that goes to the united states and tries to pursue the american dream with their cousin by doing all sorts of illegal activities. The start of the story is actually not bad, the first 5-6 missions or so, but after that, the games open up and problems really start to show up

There are A LOT of quests in GTA IV, and, you can kinda pursue any storyline that you want in any order in any moment, this sounds great in theory, but in the practice, that just means a super important plot point happens and then it's not acknowledged for 10 quests because the other quests you have pending to do were available before you even got that quest with the important plot point, so you kinda go back in time when you do a lot of the quests, there isn't really a clear chronological order in most of the quests

there isn't a pacing with the story, so it just feels bad, the story kinda did lose me halfway through because in order to actually keep pursuing it I had to do all of these other missions from secondary characters I just didn't care much about

The story itself also has a lot of problems, a lot of plot holes in fact, this is something that applies to more videogames but I find especially frustrating in this game, and that is, death only matters if it happens in a cinematic. There is a part at the start of the game where you kill someone who in the grand scheme of things is just a crook, but, you now have to face the consequences of having killed them, the loan sharks that guy had are now going to seek you, which makes sense. What doesn't make sense is the rest of the game, and that is, even in story missions you kill hundreds and hundreds of people with gang affiliations and other stuff, where are the consequences for that?, the only kills that end up mattering are the ones that happen in a cinematic

The game is also very contrived in order to make the game work, for example, in a lot of story missions the game won't spawn police, is the police not showing up when it normally would not a plot hole?, when you're on a mission and you're chasing a car, that car doesn't follow the same rules yours do, it has different collisions, in fact, a lot of NPC on vehicles are completely immortal unless you reach a certain point in the route. Shooting a enemy, them not dying, shooting them again but in a different point in a road and dying, isn't that a plot hole?, there a clear disconnect from the gameplay and the story, they feel made by two entirely different dev teams

But I mean, if you're playing GTA, you're not really doing it for the story most of the time, GTA is a power fantasy, you run around, kill people, steal cars, create chaos, etc. I don't think they pull this off either.

Most time in GTA, you're going to be inside of a car or a vehicle, in fact, the game doesn't really have an OST in the general sense, but radios you can turn on and switch while on the car, the ideal scenario is that you're escaping from all these cops, maybe shooting back, doing all of these cool tricks, with the song you like playing, it's supposed to make you feel badass and unstoppable, you're supposed to feel like baby driver

but sadly, the mechanics just doesn't really allow for any of that to happen, the car controls feel like you're drunk, the drift is basically useless, the ideal way to deal to police is to NOT shoot back, so if you can avoid fighting with cops at all, you take that chance, even if you have a helicopter chasing you, do not shoot back.

The way you escape from police is to get out of their vision range and then just wait 5 seconds, idk, waiting still hoping that RNG wont spawn a police car in my face is not the coolest way to escape from police?, it's very boring

This game is not polished at all, even if you exclude all the bugs, a lot of things in this game seem to have been made without much care at all. Again, immortal NPC, enemies having different laws of physics, very clear rubberbanding, loading screens while changing clothes without a menu to choose directly what you want to wear (like come on, at least give me a way to save outfits).

There is actually one part of the game that really annoyed me, and it comes down to a lack of polish. There are two or three points on the game where the story mandates you use a helicopter, this is fine, in the tutorial that shows up when you first mount an helicopter you can either use WASD or the numeric keyboard to control the helicopter, I decided to use the numeric keyboard since it was easier for me. I reach the last mission and it gives me a helicopter, but this helicopter isn't like the ones you've piloted before, this one has weapons, and you shoot your weapons with left click. Can you see the problem?, i've been controlling helicopters with my right hand on the numeric keyboard, and you're now expecting me to put my right hand on the mouse, it's impossible, you MUST use WASD to fly the helicopter, so in the time I need to get used to the WASD controls, the enemy flies away and I have to restart the entire mission once again. That death did not feel fair at all.

So yeah, the story did not engage me, there were bugs and a lack of polish, it did not live up as a power fantasy, haven't even mentioned it in the post but I feel al ot of the minigames are a bit mid, so yeah, this game sucks.

Placed in D tier. Or at least would, tiermaker still does not work.

Final Fantasy Unlimited

not a very good anime

final fantasy unlimited is a isekai-ish where a family gets into wonderland, the parents first, and then the kids later, who try to find and reunite with their parents.

even if it has the final fantasy name, this story is original, it's not an adaptation, and it's a bit boring, it's mostly an adventure anime but it doesn't really do anything very interesting and it also has a lot of comedy which eh, sometimes land but it doesn't really carry the aniem by itself

this anime has some quirks tho, first of all, the production time is surprisingly high for the year it was created in, it uses a lot of early CG which does look bad compared to nowadays but I wouldn't say it looks bad in the anime, they also got the group that made all of the initial D endings for the second ED, by all means is not a small production

second, this anime doesn't feel like a videogame at all, it also doesn't feel like final fantasy at all, yes, they do references and have chocobos and do the victory theme, but a lot of the time it feels closer to hunter x hunter than anything else, like really, anime is HEAVILY influenced by games like dragon quest and stuff, so for an anime about a videogame to have less videogame ADN than a regular seasonal anime, that shit is impressive

also, I have finished FF7 today, which was the reason why I hadn't started paper mario yet, but yeah, this anime is not very good, placed in D rank

french-japanese anime collaboration, mixed about it

It's a anime about gangsters and weird aliens, mainly the first tho, it's very action packed, lots of stunts, not any real drama or whatever, and I didn't get too into it, it's not exactly a original story and for action there are many anime that does it better.

It does look very good, but it's not as breaking or generally berathtaking for that to carry the entire thing, also, i'm not the biggest fan of some of the decisions on the visuals, mainly because it feels like it's trying to replicate the same camera shots and the same general things as a life action movie like with the camera shake, and I don't think an animation should strife to imitate real life, I don't think it really takes full advantage of it

I don't really have much to say about it, the movie is just a bland but with good animation. D rank

Charly

people aparently don't really like this adaptation but idk man I liked it

This is an adaptation of the book flowers for algernon which I previously read on this thread, and I think this is a good adaptation, it doesn't follow the book 1:1, in fact, it has many, many differences, but I am not a believer that a adaptation should be faithful to the source material, I think you have to work to the strenghts of the medium, (this is kinda what I was saying in this thread)

Flowers for algernon was written in diary entries, and you could see their intelligence advancing via the vocabulary he used and the spelling mistakes, being a movie you can't really do that, instead, it gives you what really was going on, not what charly percieved in the book, which really shifts the narrative, the movie is more focused on the people surrounding charly than charly himself

everything else I have to say is the same as I said in the book, so maybe read that too

I think that if you've read the book you can watch the movie and if you've watched the movie you can watch the movie they feel complementary more than "the same but in a different medium", so placed in A rank, like the book

reffty_gag wrote:

"Grave Of The Fireflies" (1988, movie)
already seen

Studio ghibli has three type of movies

1- Cool magical adventure! (mainly for younger audiences), some examples of this are spirited away or mononoke
2- More cozy type of film (still for younger audiences), some examples of this are totoro or kiki's delivery service
3- A world war 2 drama about a patriotic japanese civilian trying to survive while caring about her little sister after their parents passed away as collateral deaths due to the incessant bombing of the war (what the fuck)

like really, I'm honestly astonished how completely different this is to every single other movie they've done, maybe the closest is nausica?, but it's not remotely as grim as grave of the fireflies, imagine if disney or pixar did that, after they release toy story or whatever they released a movie about the horrors of wars and not in a kid-friendly way

I also think grave of the fireflies is one of the best ghibli films, tho I think animation is not the best medium for stories about war, specially about how war is bad, mainly because it creates a layer of abstraction which kinda devaluates the message of the film, the more real it feels, the more impactful it is, this is for example one of the reasons why 1917 is recorded like it's a single continuous shot (they have cuts but they just hide it very well)

still, this movie is a banger, the movie looks great, the situation truly does feel dire, seeing all of the characters in this shitty situation is really tough, I like the commentary they do on ideology, it doesn't matter if they won the war, you still have all of those civilain deaths and absolute destruction across your country, the only difference is that if you win, you at least feel it was worth it, but is it really?, can you really see this movie and go "yeah wars are really cool actually"

this movie also shows about how war is unfair, the people that survive aren't the ones that "deserve" it the most (everyone deserves to live, I just mean, just because someone is a better person that doesn't give you better odds at surviving), a lot of it comes down to your social and economical standing previous to the war, the skills you know, (a methematician is not the most useful on a community trying to survive a tragic situation, but if you were a medic or a farmer, you're now the coolest person in town), and also geographical location, it doens't matter how prepared you are, if you're unlucky, the bombs will always take your life

also the relation between the two protagonist is beautiful

so yeah, really banger movie, placed in A rank

Avatar: the last aribender

unpopular opinion alert!!! this felt ass ngl (note, only seen season 1, as I don't plan on watching the rest)

Avatar the last airbender is a western anime produced by nickelodeon about the story of four nations, you know the meme "Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked", and then the avatar who is also the last airbender (shocking I know) needs to learn to master all elements so he can stop the war

This is an episodic series, however, even if I don't like this style of storytelling, they actually did a damn good job at it, my problem with this type of series is that they're often formulaic, that there isn't much plot developement, that there really isn't much of a pace to the anime since you can basically watch it in any order, this isn't the case in avatar, the first and final 5 episodes flow so, so well into each other that it truly feels great

now, there are still a few episodes that does feel like filler, like the fortune-telling episode, but that isn't really my biggest complaint, my problems with the series is more that it feels tone deaf at times

This is a nickelodeon show, this was aired for children, thing is, this series truly does seem like it wants to go into some deeper, more heavy topics, but every time there is a interesting speech or anything really interesting, they often cut it out with a dumb gag to keep the tone light, this is not the worst thing ever but it's annoying

The real problem here are the characters. The situation is dire, you're on a big war, that could have (and has already had) awful, awful consequences, due to chance you find the avatar, the only person that can save it, but they currently are weak (compared to what they should be), this is a TENSE situation, this is stressful, this is awful for everyone involved, there is no fun be found here, so why are the characters so damn moody?

like really, the thing that actually just kills me of avatar is how the characters would literally just let the world die for the stupidest reason you've heard, the ammount of times they turn of each other for random bs is astounding, "ohhhh I randomly got a bf and now i'm like turning on each other for this guy I literally met 30 minutes ago", "after 20 episodes of traveling turns out that the instructor is rude to women so we're not going to have the avatar do the training they need to save the world", at the end, due to plot armor they do return and save the situation (honestly that one I mentioned was such bullshit turns out that randomly the grandma of one of the protagonist was supposed be married to the instructor and due to seeing the family trinket she was wearing his heart softened up like are you fucking kidding me?, you would let the world DIE before being nice to women but seeing that she's the granddaughter of the girl that stood him up at like a wedding is the thing to soften him up??????)

It's just, I don't feel they really acknowledge the situation at all, in chapter 3, aang discovers his whole nation is dead, so also like all his family and friends and everyone that he ever loved or even met, and not only that but they were muredred, so katara, does a speech, where she basically goes "I went through a similar situation when my family died, but hey!, you're better off than I was back then, as you still have a family, us". Like, there is no point in comparasion of what aang is just living through to what she lived through, the worst part is that the speech works and it's just such an awful scene god it's bad

so if the characters often have plot armor, they don't even acknowledge the plot as anything to be taken seriously, every time they're going to do anything intersting they cut it out with a gag, and there are literally filler episodes, what's the point of the show?, really, if even the characters don't give a shit, why should I give a shit?

I don't know man, I don't like it, also note I haven't watched it as a kid this was my first impression.

Wow those basters sure are inglorious! haha!

nah but it's a good movie, I'm not the biggest fan of tarantino, mainly because I'm not the biggest fan of action, but I enjoyed this

Inglorious basters is about a group of jewish-american soldiers who kill nazis during WW2, there are some romance sideplots and stuff too but in general, it's about killing nazis

in fact, the movie isn't very deep or complex at all, it's just about seeing nazis die, also some scenes are really well made like that initial scene

anyways good movie it did what it wanted to do which was kill a lot of nazis so B rank

TÁR

it's nice

TÁR is about a orchestra composer who is a really shitty human being but like she doesn't think there is anything wrong with that and life happens and fuck man

This is a movie with a very simple premise and message, you can probably guess the ending without seeing the movie, but that's not really the point. TÁR is all about that idea of art vs the artist and the nuances we have nowadays surrounding that topic, because it turns out, you can say "yeah this old composer was an asshole" but when that composer is still alive, things change

There is a scene, close to the start of the movie, where tar is teaching a young new student, and that new student claims that he doesn't enjoy bach, and the reason why he didn't enjoy bach weren't so much that they didn't enjoy the songs themselves, but he just thought bach was an asshole and he shouldn't really be celebrated, to this, tár goes like WHAT THE FUCK you MUST like bach or else you have SHIT TASTE and you CLEARLY don't know what you're talking about

In many ways, you can make pararellism here with tar and bach, both are cracked at making music but they're both really shitty, so in many ways, her defending bach is her defending herself, because you can't possibly accept that criticism of bach without being a hypocrite

The idea that this movie kinda ends up is that it's alright to just dislike something just because you dislike who that person is, which in many ways goes contrary to a lot of the opinions surrounding "cancel culture"

I liked this movie, placed in B tier

surprisingly good ngl

this movie is the type of movie who doesn't really bother to explain what is going on at any moment, it's like the opposite of handholding, shit just happens and you kinda have to figure out what's going on, while I may not really like this type of movies too much, this one felt actually interesting

a lot of the fun of this movie is not really knowing what's coming next, it isn't really trying to say anything and more just to be a fun little movie

don't have a lot to say, it was fun, placed on B rank.

Bicentennial Man

first 3/4 are peak but man what a shitty ending

Bicentennial man is a movie about a robot who develops conciousness and free will, not the most groundbreaking concept but I love the way it's executed

the first half of the movie is really beautiful, the robot lives just as another member of the family, and time passes, he learns how to fit into society more and more, he even lands a job and makes a lot of money, building a future for himself, he sees everyone grow up, get married, form families, and die, everything changing but him

However it's not a sad movie, in fact, I would say it's very happy, I watched it with a big smile in my face and it's really a movie to transmit tranquility, the first half is just a very relaxing, beautiful look at life from the perspective of someone who is basically outside society and outside time

After the halfway point of the movie (I don't really consider this spoilers but do as you wish), the focus changes and the robot wants to be as human as possible, and to do things any other human would do, without people actually judging him or treating him different for being a robot

this on itself isn't bad, however, there is a big problem, this is a hollywood production from 1999, tho the year doesn't matter much as this is something they have yet to fix. Hollywood doesn't understand what being human means, at least on film

most american productions can only picture one way of life, and that is either you're middle or high class, live a normal life without much trouble, get married have kids and die. There isn't anything else to life, in fact, if you ever watch any american sitcom, every single character ends up married and having children and that's the end of the sitcom.

This doesn't apply to our robot since our robot is basically a god on earth, they're immortal, they're smarter than anyone else in the planet, they have perfect memory, etc etc. The first half is so good because the movie feels like it understand this, with that power the robot doesn't choose a high octane life, doesn't try to be a hero of war or a big political figure, he doesn't try to be the best scientist or win awards. With the power to shape humanity in any shape they want, the robot puts himself before humanity, and decides that the best course of life is to just enjoy life, enjoy the day to day, live a comfy life without much difficulty

there is a lot of philosophical questions of if doing this is right or wrong, if you have that much power, should you use it for good?, at what extent?, there are many answers to this, but honestly, I don't mind the ideology of this movie, live a comfy life first, if they can do good later, even if it's only for self-worth or whatever, that's good.

The later section of the movie, mainly the very last arc fails for me because this setting just doesn't work for this character, you can't pull your typical hollywood plot after that start and setup, and not because he's a robot, but more on how hollywood does things

They basically try adding a romance plot, because every successful life needs a lasting romance. Thing is, having the romance just work is boring according to them, so they try to add drama, but hollywood doesn't understand romance, so the robot turns into an asshole

the only way for hollywood to do drama in a romance is for it to exist a toxic relationship, a romantic "triangle" where it's just two people who are already going out and you try to steal that person away, and it's just... why

they picture this as the right and moral thing to do, as a celebration for the fact that they can feel love and therefore are a complete romance, and I feel it just throws away everything good this movie had built up

I don't like the very end of the guy refusing his immortality either, it's just, you can be human without living that one archetype of life, if you have advantages or differences to other people, use them, live with them, don't neglect them and try to mask it

sadly placed on C rank, just watch perfect days, it's way better

idk it's mediocre

really, it's as standard as it could be, it's a movie about this chameleon who have delusions of greatness and finds a town in the wild west (missouri) where he fakes being someone very cool and dangerous and then he isn't but he becomes a hero anyways.

This movie is very much inspired by shrek 2, a movie that was already kinda derivative to shrek 1 which was already derivative from other stuff so yeah no much originality here

it looks good, jokes mostly didn't land for me, didn't have a bad time with it tho, so eh

Paper Mario

yet another unpopular opinion, I do not like paper mario

Paper mario is a RPG mario game released for the n64, and I just had a lot of problems with it

paper mario is a game where mario is made of paper, but really, only sometimes. Paper mario is written and shown like a theater play, there is a script you must follow, the dialogue feels like a theater with peach saying her feelings for mario out loud in a balcony, this is cool, but I feel they use this as a shield too much. Paper mario is an overpowered character, in fact, it being 2d breaks most conventional videogame design, paper mario just solves this by not really being consistent in the character design and what mario can or cant do

for example, there is a section where mario is thrown into a prision cell, well, escaping is as easy as just moving sideways through the bars, but instead, mario has do a regular escape since that's more fun for the plot. Point is, paper mario is only paper mario when the game decides that would be a funny gag, everything else must play into the script, and idk, it just feels weak to me, it's a nitpick yes I know but they could have written paper mario in a way it's consistent

the level design is weak in general, you get movement abilities through the game, mostly in the form of partners that also have combat utility, but they're not interesting skills, at least, they're not used that way. When something in a game require you to use a skill, it mostly feels like a check to see if you own that skill, they never do interesting puzzles or platforming with it, it's just "oh this gap is slightly too large for you to cross you better have the skill that allows you to pass"

there are also certain sections of the game which are just a slog to get through, I think the worst offender of this is actually bowsers castle, it's just a very boring section, the game uses all your skills (so it just checks you have it in the most boring way possible), but the worst is when the game tries to do a water section with a skill that allows you to mount a fish and travel across water. It's two big connected rooms where you got to run to one part of the room to pull a chain that brings the water out, then you move to the other side of the room to do another chain, then you move to the other side to get a key that you needed to open the door, and then you repeat the whole process again to get the water level down, the room ahs no enemies or any sort of thing for you to overcome, it's just walking. Bowser's castle even has a pick a path segment for the love of god

The combat however, that's actually an interesting topic

This game was released in 2004, and something that happened during this era of videogames is that every big AAA release was a RPG with turn based combat, it was the industry standard like how real time action is the standard now, it was just the blanket combat system that you put to every videogame, thing is, people hadn't really nailed turn based combat as of yet, a lot of mainstream games had pretty bad turn based combat where you kinda just figured out a ability was OP so you just spammed that for how much HP the enemy had and if that didn't work you would go grind enemies until your level was high enough

Paper mario tried to solve this in a way similar to how games like chrono trigger or FF7 had tried to do in the past, they tried the motions of turn based combat interesting, it was no longer just press the ability you wanted to use, paper mario required you to play a small minigame on each attack to get optimal damage and press a button while being attack to block it and recieve less damage

to this, they also completely reworked the XP system making it that your damage is not tied to your level but only attributes like mana or HP. This just doesn't work for me

you can ad as many minigames as you want, the combat is still just spam the strongest attack, and that gets boring, in fact, the bowser fight was very boring (turns out there wasn't any twist villain tho I was wrong on that), because, bowser couldn't kill me, they basically didn't do damage to me and I could recover all my HP easily, and bowser had a lot of HP, so it was like 15 minutes of just doing the same 3 attacks over and over again and then seeing bowser randomly decide to heal making the battle take at least 3 more minutes and I was just hoping for it to be over

also, the game is easy enough where the optimal way to play is basically to skip as much combat as you can, since your damage wasn't tied to your XP and you could often 1-2 all of the enemies and the XP gained scaled if you were underleveled, you can actually skip half of the combat in the game and still sweep the bosses, really, there is no point on actually engaging into combat, so every time I was touched by a enemy I was like "fuck I have to the boring combat now" since I know it wasn't actually providing anything to me

So yeah, this is not the way to make good turn based combat.

Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (only season 1)

showed promise but didn't live up to it

GATE is a anime about a dimensional gate that connects the real world with a typical isekai world, and the isekai world decides to lead an invasion to the real world, which then fails and the humans send a counteroffensive

the 3 first episodes or so are actually quite good IMO, it's edited in a very frenetic way, the tone is serious, and it actually made me believe that they were actually going to touch some interesting subjects, for example, the civilians of the fantasy world were afraid that they were going to rape the women like it has happened in many real world wars before, the most relevant for this anime is the japanese invasion of korea, however, this didn't last, as it turned out they didn't just mention rape as an actual topic to handle, they did it out of fanservice

The protagonist is an otaku, which is fine, there are a lot of otaku in anime unsurprisingly, works as a bit of a comedic relief, thing is, that otaku element slowly takes main stage, the characters when joining the fantasy world goes like "woahhhhhh I for sure want to fuck so many fantasy species" and it turns out that a few chapters later he has formed a harem

The war that was initially pretty well written starts making less and less sense, like, why keep pushing with the counteroffensive having lots of lots of casulties when it's clear you have total and utter techonological superiority and by just placing a watchpost at the gate you could prevent any harm done to our world?, why do the fantasy civilians keep talking about magic when that isn't something that really shows up in the anime?

it just becomes a very bland, self-insert fantasy type of anime, which is sad because it started great.

The story is kinda anthological for the most part, this is set in the middle of the VIH epidemic, and a doctor goes to the prision to do tests and distribute medicine and all that sort of stuff, so the prisioners starts telling him their life stories, which are all pretty interesting

most of these stories try to frame the criminals into a more positive light, showcasing that even if they did horrible acts such as murder, they still held humanity, and should be treated as such, a human being, and it does a damn good job at this, you do get attached to the characters

it's also interesting how VIH is percieved in this movie, since it's a disease that was able to spread mostly due to a lack of sexual education and education in general, so no one but the doctor really understands how the disease works. You can excuse the prisioners for not knowing because they have been cut off civilization for a long time, but they're not the only ones that don't get it, the cops later on the movie don't understand it either. During the intervention, a prisioner goes like "you can't get close to us we have the VIH you will get it too" and the police responded by shooting them dead

The actual police intervention is brutal, it's abussive, it's just a really awful thing and it really comes out of nowhere

also, something that I didn't know until I read the wikipedia page, the actual movie is recorded on location

so yeah, good movie, I enjoyed, placed on A rank

the maze runner

there is surprisingly little maze running

this movie is a teen dystopia very inspired by hunger games and similar stuff about this guy who wakes up without memories and the only way to escape is across a maze with weird creatures that kill people

it's just a pretty boring movie, really, nothing really happens, it's just a constant I'M GOING TO INTO THE MAZE followed by YOU CANT GO INTO THE MAZE and that's the whole first hour and when the movie seems to start doing stuff it just ends since this movie is part of a trilogy and like this entire movie is exposure except the actual exposure only happens in the last 5 minutes of the movie and I didn't have a lot of fun watching it so i'm not going to watch the rest

placed in D rank

the doctor is still alive and do some cringe videos on the internet nowadays

also it didnt start from nowhere, it was a prisoner revolt that went to shit real quick.

just remember that both sides had murderers with their own history and their own family, the crime just came to happen in different timelines.

yes, of course there was a reason for the intervention, but what I mean is the scalation and the force of the response that was completely out of left field, the revolt was already half supressed by the moment they shot the first bullet

Holes

better than maze runener

Holes is a feel good movie about a summer camp that juts forces kids to dig holes if they want to survive and also there are some weird dangerous lizards

It's not a very complex or deep movie, you're getting what you're expecting, as I say it's a feel good movie so everything does end well.

What I do find very interesting is how this movie was edited. It was way overedited, even for the smallest of reasons they will play like a montage with multiple clips at once with lower opacity placed one up the other and vocal songs even when the characters and talking and slow-mo scenes for character introduction even if the camera isn't high FPS so the slowed down footage just looks like laggy footage, it also has a b-plot I don't really understand

It was not unenjoyable but eh, not my cup of tea, placed in D rank

Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu

this is a movie I wanted to watch since 2020 because it's a shoujo romance original movie and I like that, I did not know the plot, I just knew it existed and I wanted to watch it

The movie is about this girl who swaps bodies with a cat, it's not a bad movie but it's also not peak. Both of the protagonist are pretty stuborn and really bad at communicating so it all moves thanks to an external force, my complain is that external force kinda takes too much screnetime and I don't feel the romance is really that well developed or is able to transmit the feelings it probably should.

In many ways, this movie is a proto-suzume, as suzume would later take a lot of concepts from this movie but polish them way better, it has way more of a clear focus and impact, it doesn't really feel as messy as this movie is and I just like it way more, but it's interesting to see the comparasion as they really are similar

in any case, I don't think this is necessarily a bad movie, I still enjoyed my time with it, but mainly because I really like the genre, so placed in C rank
