You're currently on your way to work when all of a sudden... the environment around you changes drastically, a scenery that looks like you're at the edge of the world. Realizing that you've been transported into a different plane of existence, you try to find a way out out and in the process, you stumble across a room. You enter inside and an unknown all-powerful entity appears before you. He introduces himself as God and claims that you are the deciding factor in humanity's fate.

Question

God gives you a button. He says that if you press it, there's an 80% chance that humanity will live in a utopia free from all suffering. However, there is a 20% chance that only you will be eternally tortured beyond your imagination. He gives you a choice...

Would you press the button?

this but also utopias are quite fragile. They are isolationist society brittle to the touch. Just introduce things it would never undergo within its boundaries and it is no longer a utopia. Drought? Flood? Earthquake? Asteroid? Aliens? Have God poof all these out of existence? Society might as well be in a sandbox environment at that point, existing in a container with faked conditions.
JustABeginner
Look, I just want peace alright.
Also, I wouldn't mind dying as a sacrificial.
Puck_
No, I’m too selfish for pressing that button.
Manishh
Nope lmao
WitherMite
if its anything like the hit% chance in videogames 80/20 odds mean 100% of the time you'll end up being tortured.

utopias are no fun anyways, not pressing the button.
Karmine
Not pressing it, why would I take that risk for people who wouldn't even thank me if it goes right?

C'mon guys. I hoped at least 1 person would've pressed the button. I even planned something if there are more votes on yes.

Time to plan the no situation then...

I think it's more of a trick question. Yes the different between the two choice is 1 and 5 but with the track like that it's negligible since it'll eventually rail the 5 as well.

I'd rather go with abraker. Don't push anything as well. At least there's one live saved and the guarantee the other 5 sacrifice wouldn't be in vain.

They're not tied or anything, you can yell them to move too.

They all look like old men. By the time you shout at them to move they wouldn't be able to get away fast enough by the time the train hits them.

why don't we yell to the train driver instead, do they have eyes?

You refused to press the button. God is very disappointed in your choice, stating you could've saved the world. But nonetheless, he begrudgingly sends you back. You have returned to your world. There are no changes during your absence, as if all of time stopped entirely and only resumed after you returned.

After that encounter, you begin to think more about the world around you. You wonder if things could've gone differently if you pressed the button. A curiosity inside you has emerged. Wanting answers, you start researching more about this "God" during your free time.

Your worldview slightly changes.

It's all just a dream.
There was never a button appeared in front of your eyes this whole time.

You went out and see the sky, hearing cars passing by with roaring engine and terrible honks.
People are chattering, protesting, wanting to know the possible future for the next generation.
You wish you could save it, but out of billions and counting, it's going to be hard. Not to mention how people won't cooperate with each other, disasters will eventually repeat.

If this god wanted to save this world so badly, why didn't they push the button?
