Regarding the rules in the standard specific criteria, regarding sliderbodies:
I think it should be a guideline, or the rule changed to where this only applies when border or body falls below a certain luminosity, similar to current restrictions on combo colors.
an actual problem
versus
not a problem at all??
is the latter really considered a problem? It seems like an unnecessary restriction of skinning freedom. I think only cases like the first image is the real issue that should be worried about.
But.. I had to go out of my way to intentionally make the colors in the above slider blend together. Even slightly different colors are still distinguishable and cause no problems in slider reading. The chances of a user and beatmap skin conflicting to where this would happen are incredibly low, which is why I think this rule is excessive.
On top of that, it is rather heavy handed, as it forces the major function of beatmap skinning (besides combobursts) to have either a set body color or forced default skin.
Why forcing the set body color is bad:
If the sliderborder is set to pure white, RGB: 255,255,255 , it is not required to set a sliderbody color. This is because a white border cannot blend in with the body in any case.
This would allow a third more lenient option than the above two for those who wish to skin hitcircles in their mapset.
tl;dr i think the rules in the std rc about slidertrackoverride and sliderborder are heavy handed and unnecessary. please either revise as a guideline, or a rule for dark borders specifically, or add an exception for white sliderborders as it's impossible for them to blend with the body.
Slider body color cannot be too similar to slider border color. If both of these settings are too similar to each other, then the slider border element loses its point as a visual border for the slider. Slider body color can be selected by adding SliderTrackOverride: <RGB Value> under [Colours] in a .osu file.Is it really necessary to have this as a rule? Even if the body and border blend together, sliders are still perfectly readable due to body shading and transparency. The only time this isn't the case is when both body/border are so dark they blend in with a heavily dimmed background.

Both slider border and body colors must be manually set or not set. Setting only one may conflict with a user's custom skin choices. The logic for this being to prevent the border/body conflicting between user/beatmap skins and blending in.

Why forcing the set body color is bad:
- It can reduce the presence of combo colors. (which itself can cause reading difficulty for someone not used to it.)
- It can restrict the choice of combo colors in order to avoid colors clashing.
- It will make more elements than intended take away from the player's skin.
- It will encourage the player to disable what may have been a minimal beatmap skin. They may have been fine with skinned hitcircles, but not the pippi comboburst.
