[osu!mania] BNG / NAT List (OUTDATED)

While I do appreciate being added to your list, there is still a formal process that needs to be done to get to being a beatmap nominator. That's not to say that I agree with it, but the fact of the matter is that there is a formalized process to become a beatmap nominator and getting through it is something that I don't see myself doing anytime soon.

However, the real reason that I am making this post is that you are implicitly insulting any beatmap nominators that are not on your list: I understand that you don't "give a damn", but others that have the beatmap nominator have taken the time to go through the process and were cleared by other staff, and leaving them out in an effort to say that they don't belong/shouldn't be there is not something that you, or anyone else should ever be doing. Yes, you're entitled to have an opinion, but if your opinion is going to be a subtle, passive-aggressive attack on those who are not on this list, you're doing things wrong and probably should stop.

To be fair though, that process selects out many people (like yourself) who don't (for whatever reason) follow it. You could argue that anyone unwilling to go through the process is already unfit, but I would disagree because that process has no bearing on how well someone actually understands beatmapping. The process is effectively selecting people for their activity, rather than their knowledge or quality of mods (beyond the basic requirements for a mod to be considered a mod). Not only does it neglect to take into account actual knowledge, but it puts a primary focus on quantity over quality, which is not particularly helpful.

In the early days, the problem was that the few experienced mappers we had ran into difficulty getting their maps ranked for one reason or another. That issue is beginning to disappear (although it's still present, it's not as bad as it once was) and now we've reached a point where I think it's important to be a bit more picky about things. Unfortunately, the current process prioritizes people who are very active, rather than people who may be less active, but have greater expertise in mapping. By focusing on mappers who are very active, the system will ensure that more maps are nominated, but of those nominated maps, more of them will be of lower quality because of the lack of actual expertise in the BN group.

I'm not saying all the current BNs are bad, or anything to that effect. I'm simply saying that there are mappers out there with greater experience and knowledge than many of the current BNs who are selected out because of how the process focuses on quantity as a large factor.

Whoa who said anything about replacing the old bns with these people on my list? I just think that we need more new bns, and I highly recommended these guys, no less, no more. And about the current bns, I think they are cool for me and I don't think they should leave.

yeah I do understand some people don't want to go through all the process. But if only these guys are active enough in modding activities, I believe they could be a good BN and brings the community to the better future.

All puxtu is doing is suggesting new BNs for the list of 14 we have at the moment, picking people with beatmap skill and expertise over activity. Simple as.

If you guys (the ones on puxtu's list) don't want to be BN, then you could've just said so.

Don't look past puxtu's intentions and take him out of context. He's not trying to make ad hominems, and you shouldn't too.

Case in point: Your allegation of him implicitly attacking some BNs.

OK, so there's no dispute here. BN qualifications are extremely tight, and you and I and everybody else is clear on this. However, there's something I don't understand by deducing what you said on the next paragraph.

You said it yourself; the position of a BN is extremely reverend, and it takes a lot of effort and work to actually obtain the title. But suddenly, you mention that pux's post is implicitly insulting their work even though you say that they put in a lot of effort in all that they do. Shouldn't the BNs themselves already have a level of self-respect and confidence, especially when they go through so much to obtain the title that they now carry? Why would pux's opinion affect their confidence/offend them when everybody can agree that they deserve a huge load of respect?

I understand your point; you feel as if pux's post is a little insensitive, and I do agree with you that the way pux placed forth his opinion is a little offensive.

When it comes to skill and opinions about skill, it's an extremely touchy subject. Opinions about other player's skill are extremely hard to voice out without having to look like a complete douche to everybody else. Maybe that's why pux mentioned that "he wouldnt care what you think", because he was trying to avoid the storm it would cause.

I know how pux's post can and may make some people feel as if their achievements aren't enough/recognized. To these people, I say this: We have made stone the fact that you are working extremely hard, yeah? So rather than getting angry at either yourself, pux or similar people voicing their opinions, or even both of these options, why don't you start to improve on yourself? Don't take this the wrong way, I'm pretty sure everybody is hellbent on improving on themselves, but maybe there's something you are missing? Turning the negative into a motivation that drives you to the positive is a very, very good practice, and it also helps with dealing with criticisms, whether the criticism is constructive or not, or whether it is harsh or indirect.

TL;DR:
pux's intention wasn't to hurt, it was to provide feedback. And those whom are offended by the posts shouldn't take it to heart nor should they let it affect them negatively too much.

On closing, I have to reiterate one thing: BNs, or anyone who works their ass off to improve this game, seriously. Thank you for working your ass off to improve our experience playing this game. You have my respect, for sure, whomever you are.

None of us are trying to create drama, DrawdeX. However, logical arguments and real discussion are something very lacking in the current osu community, which I consider a particularly large problem. When puxtu created that list, he effectively invited discussion on the issues and reasons that those people in that list might not already be BNs.

Anyhow, I'm quite surprised - and sort of honored - to be part of the list but I really feel like I'm nowhere near being active enough modding-wise to meet the current BN requirements. Not only that but I'm also quite picky (very heavily 7K biased, and quality-wise) about what I choose to mod which is something I feel shouldn't be as a BN. Maaaaaybe in the future if I stop being a lazy-ass but for now my attention will only be focused on maps I feel are worth keeping an eye on.

Maybe I should reword my sentences to "these people would be the best suited just in case if there is a need for new bn" or something else like that. I know my list won't change anything, but atleast I already stated my opinions.

I think the list that puxtu gave is not exhaustive, so you all shouldn't get mad at him for any people he excluded but your felt that deserved to be in. Its definitely not easy to list ALL potential beatmap nominators at the back of your head am i right lel
The fact that he doesnt give a damn about your opinions already means that he isn't super serious about this list, its just his opinion and yeah you can hate on it but it would be good to just suggest users who also deserve to be on puxtu's list with reason - I think there's no point arguing about why some users arent on puxtu's list in its current form.

That's kind of a pointless post because I for instance didn't know about this post until puxtu pm'ed me on fb with it and guys like Tear, Agka or Yuno aren't as active nowadays if at all.
I don't really see the point of this list though, if any of mentioned ones want to be BN, they have to fulfil requirements first (which I myself am trying to do atm) and those who don't fulfil them will not be taken into consideration by staff, regardless of how much community wants them to. This post only started this rather heated discussion, which I think would be better if it didn't happen in the first place.

Okay, maybe people who specialise in 'weird' keycounts, like (5, 6, 8, 9), but the Qualification cap will be ridiculous if much more are added

Trying to avoid any kind of drama. O!M Ranking is pretty dead right now. Not because the amount of BN's but the amount of inactivity of them.
You can see 4 maps qualified at the moment in O!M, CtB only has 2 tho, but we are still A LOT behind of the other modes despite having a higher amount of BNs

If you ask me, you should shorten the list to people who only / mostly concentrate on mania to make it more organized and let people know who they can count on. That's why the Taiko list isn't so big. Though, beside that, the bigger the group, the more people relay to each other.

Additional to this, if mania really has significant problems (since a longer time?) in the ranking process, you could try something like this. Having a Mania Nominator Association with people who are interested and dedicated to bring mania ranking forward. If there is any interest from side of the mania community and BNs, I could try to help you in this matter, as Taiko had the same problems for months, and now our situation has become much better.

Have a picture of how the structure is.

I was thinking about it actually, I would offer myself to help in the organization of it and of course taking part modding. Might not be the best modder over here but I want to push mania foward.

I talked about it with Loctav a while ago actually and this is possibly the best idea to resolve most of "finding BNs who aren't busy/inactive is impossible" problem. I'm all in!

It might look simple, but what juankristal said is actually one of the biggest reason we did it in Taiko. You could test it if you guys want. If it doesn't work, you know it at least.

Btw. there is a CtB Modder Association now with own trello and discord.

Allright, I am allready thinking about making the Mania Nominator Association happend. I allready talked with some modders but I still want to know more peoplee who are able and wants to join as well. I will try to catch Ono this days to talk deeper about stuff (such as trello).
So if someone here wants more info or have some feedback please post in here or catch me ingame!

I've had a talk with juan over this and if it's ran by the right people with everyone not going afk, I'm sure it can work out, the main difference between a taiko/ctb nomination queue and a mania nomination queue is the different keymodes as some (like myself) only specialize in modding 1 key mode so voting can be biased to a keymode (as well as a lot of other things ofc but that's already been discussed).

Everything's got to be just right for this to be a success. No pressure. I'm ready to see what happens though. Good luck. [ 'w']b

im gonna crying like baby cuz i still being inactive and stressed over job, im posting here cuz i hope more people would read this : i only able to online in osu! in-game for only 3 hours per week at the most.. yet there's a possibility i could online in IRC oftenly..
im planning to resign from the current job i have right now, and start doing a whole new own business at home.. no more being employer..
and by that, hopefully i could maintain my time for doing BN stuff like before again.. sorry for the inconvenience, it must take so long to wait BN being active again '~'

From what I heard, actually there were 20 bns kicked due inactivity and some poor qualitiy mod and 4 bns kicked because meme-ing too hard.

He had a talk with us, and gave us more information
He also said he would check all BN about activity and quality, and remove if neccessary
I expected people to be kicked, but a total of 24 is something I didn't see coming

from what i know, currently all BN that listed could handle all key modes.. including me ' w')a

wish the next bn applicant are capable to handle all key modes as well, with lesser 4K-only bn..
