That's actually not sarcasm if any of you wonder.

By the way, here are few statistics about players who joined All-Star!

No, it's not unique and neither it is innovative.
There are more than enough good maps that are ranked.
I'm not saying that unranked maps are bad, but please pick them only if they are really spot-on choices, because it seems you choose unranked maps because they are ... unranked. 1-2 per mappool will do.
You know there are too many tournaments nowadays, and the quantity of existing ranked maps, especially which are suitable enough for tournaments, are not really... very high regarding the numbers of tournaments. If we focus only on ranked maps, we will, inevitably, have MANY repeated choices over the other tournaments, in which players of our tournaments may have just took part several months or even days ago. All in all, we don't want to leave players the impression "wow, I'm joining many tournaments and I find myself playing the same maps again and again". We need special maps that can represent our tournament.
In fact, the ranked maps really outnumbered the unranked maps. We limited the amount of unranked maps in an acceptable scale. That's also what we'd like the players to play: MANY ranked maps as well as SOME unranked maps.
And, all the maps including the ranked and unranked ones have been examined carefully among the map selectors, we decline maps that are not hitsounded, not well-timed or have many random jumps/streams. The quality of the unranked maps is not lower than the ranked ones,and it's unranked just because it has some unrankable patterns, do not have a whole mapset (having no lower diffs) or the mapper is too lazy to get it modded and ranked. Besides, many unranked maps in this pool are really once qualified and then DQed.
Thank you for your feedback, however I don't want to change it. Really sorry for that.

It's not that players can change anything in terms of how the tournament works, but I'll just let you know that your argument is extremely unconvincing and disappointing.
You just implied that your aim is to arrange a mappool that is unique compared to.... prety much all the tournaments that've been organized in the recent months (years?).
I could complain about recent OWC having maps from previous editions, but from any other tournament? Do you really want osu! all star's maps not to ever overlap with some nyanyan tournament-like events made by randoms for randoms whose number reaches hundreds a year?
I also would like to point out that there should be a thorough explanation about what happens if the map gets updated (which is highly possible to happen, especially to the once DQ'd maps that you find so fitting)
But yeah, who cares.

In fact, many players would like to join tens of tournaments in a single year and take them very seriously. That you underestimate the "unofficial" tournaments doesn't imply all "pro" players would underestimate them.
And about the updating stuff, I must agree that they DO update and I can't stop them from updating. However, most of the updates are very minor and would not affect the playability at all. If some major changed taken place, we will decide whether we use the updated version or use the version in the mappack in the early hours. In OCWT, where I used many unranked maps, we succeeded in managing the updated maps, so I think it would not be a big deal.
Besides, many players want to see some unranked maps in mappool, outnumbering the players who want only ranked maps. And in fact, "offical" tournaments like twc, cwc, and o!mwc, also use lots of unranked maps, which, I think, it's a trend.
With admitting the inconvenience of the usage of unranked maps, I have to say you are right in your aspect, while I'm right in my aspect. Thank you for your feedback but please allow us to demonstrate that this would work well.

We sure will consider giving a higher priority to either maps that have been in graveyard for months and longer or maps that are under our control (e.g. own maps or friend's maps), than ones that still have a high chance to get updated. But the fact that the qualified map (to the ternimus) got disqualified, and then updated and changed wasn't something we could've expected. We are not prophets.

what the heck why isnt koigokoro [delis' insane] in dt map pool i think that map very fitting to this pool difficult and good map song too!

For this one, I highly suggest to use ranked / graveyard maps, not the qualified one. Hope this post helps (: ~

Plenty of ways to go about that for participants and concerned staff (stream/cast/ref) and people'll appreciate it. Unranked works very well if the bare minimum is done to prevent damage.

Someone out there will update in middle of a match/weekend someday to troll and ruin a good pick so poor reaction time will be unneeded drama. Dropping a pm to a set owner early enough to ask could even lead to some nice additions to the pick instead for no effort outside of sacrificing some minutes from eroges. Other stuff like keeping the correct .osu you've already been doing.


Some unranked maps will still end up spammed in every tournament once lazy people also include them commonly. Pretty safe for now except certain ones (no title).
Then comes the day where Graces of Heaven will be acknowledged as the best tiebreaker because people got tired of the Reol, snow drive, warpledge, toumei elegy, nyan drive, electric love, Delrio etc spam.

Gratz to everyone who made it through the pools and good luck next time for those who unfortunately didn't make it!

Mappool of Ro32 will be posted tonight and /mp/ for the matches as well, schedules will be available tomorrow and the rescheduling deadline will be thursday at 11:59PM UTC+0.

Hello there, I am just a spectator to this tournament and you guys are doing a great job but I feel the need to point out something that is missing in the first post. Heck, it's missing from most first posts in tournaments with group stages. How exactly are ties worked out in these tournaments, because although I can kind of work it out if I look on Challonge, it's not completely obvious.

Let's take Pool D as an example

Three teams were all on 2-1. In some competitions on this planet, goal difference may separate ties. Results against tied opponents may also be considered. Sometimes the second is ignored all together and there's some kind of a playoff a-la League of Legends. Unfortunately this is not in the rules at all so the team that didn't make it had to wait until all matches were played AND
for someone to tell them that they weren't through.

If I look at the Challonge Bracket, there's a column with wins against tied opponents. If someone managed to get onto that site they would at least know about this rule because it's shown on Challonge. However in this group 3 teams had 1 win against each other, meaning that this was also tied.

Looking at the matches Where are we? and Team Dio both won 2 maps in their lost matches whilst Reptile Falcons won 0. So could it be this that decided the fate of this group? Or was it the fact Where are we? and Team Dio lost only 2 maps in their won games. Whilst Reptile Falcons lost 5. Obviously the falcons were doomed either way, but if they won both their games 4-0 then it would have definitely been up for debate.

Of course, it's alright analysing the pool after all the matches were played but for some of these teams they were playing matches not knowing whether a win would be worthless to them progressing or not.

As I said at the beginning of this post, you guys have done a great job organising this tournament and a lot of the time criticism can be undeserved. However, this addition to intro posts in tournaments would be much welcome!

To pass the pools, the condition (on challonge) is "wins and points", let's take a look at Pool E as example, both teams had 8 points (each of them won at least 8 maps) but only one made it to the bracket, it's because one team won 2 matches and the other one match, and looking back to Pool D, each of them had 2 wins but Team Dio won more maps.

Of course, it's alright analysing the pool after all the matches were played but for some of these teams they were playing matches not knowing whether a win would be worthless to them progressing or not.
Any match between those 3 would've decided the fate of their pool. If the 3 Teams had 10 points and 2 wins I would've used something I can't on Challonge, the Score Difference Ratio, when you win a map over your opponent, there is a score difference, I would've added all the scores differences of the 10 maps a team won together and the two teams with the highest SDR would've passed the pool. I forgot to specify that on the main thread, I'll think of it for the future tournaments, thanks a lot!

Sorry about misunderstandings about if we were checking every tournament or not, that was actually our fault for not explaining what we were checking.
Regarding unranked maps i can also see the problem of picking them when they are in the ranking phase and what not, again our fault.

I'm obviously not TrickMirror but some players don't prefer to use hit sounds as it adds an additional sound that usually does not go with the music. Also if you are used to playing with no hit sounds then suddenly being half forced into playing with it is quite difficult to get used to.
I'm not saying that I agree with completely eliminating these picks but some of the pending/graveyarded maps have not been fully moded thus have few minor issues that may lower ones performance
In case of felys it originally has a sound to where the note is placed but because it is the BMS Edit the sound is a lot harder to hear/you can't hear it at all, which is a bit ridiculous if you've never heard of the original music

I assumed the bo7 format for Losers Round 3 implied that the round 1 mappool would be used. However, looking at Challonge, it says that Losers Round 3 is a bo9 format, going against what is listed in the rules. So first of all, which is it, and second of all, how does one determine which mappool will be played for each losers bracket match? I figured it would follow a similar format to NAT (see: http://puu.sh/ivVZR/7b06262c9f.png) but the second round was played with the round 1 mappool. Sorry if I'm missing something but I can't seem to find this information.

I can completely understand this, however you shouldn't forsake the mappool just because players think that way. In the end, putting way more unranked and even in TrickMirrors case, not hitsounded maps. In all honesty, have way more unranked won't do any justice. And if you guys keep challenging yourselves with these rules, im sure by antibeat 4/5 the unranked picks are totally worse. Im not saying no to unranked, im saying please use it appropriately. They are in WIP/Pending for a reason.

Thats not really a good example, considering it was rank in late 2014s.

it really is VERY boring, especially when the song type is not something you really like, playing it all over again (in order to regain the feeling of the map) is never a good idea, and some maps are just appearing more than 2 times I think...

SAVE THE QUEEN - EX-Termination
to be removed from the mappool.

This is not about taste anymore (it has never been), the maps for a tournament have some agreed rules and a map which has 1 (one) part that is 10x harder than the rest is unacceptable.
Another failure is a 500~ ish combo ZABABA map.
Apart from that, the difficulty spread is extremely diversed. I know you can't make all the maps equally difficult, but for god's sake, find me a player who thinks that SWITCHED-ON LOTUS (5yo map with 15 FCs in history) is easier to FC (WHICH IS A PRIORITY IN A TOURNAMENT) than, let's say, Recommended Spell.
I'm inclined to think this is just pickers trolling and laughing behind the scenes now.

switched on lotus isn't as hard as you make it out to be here, i promise you if it was AR9 everyone would have FC'ed it and there's probably a lot of people that can FC it that hasn't because they just simply haven't played it

I would like to support Amai in this case. Certain maps this round don't seem fit, and I particularly abhor the Switched-on Lotus map as well. I've seen other players voicing discontent for a few picks, too. In a setting where players are not allowed to ban maps, this particularly strains their playing strategy, and I think it's actually counter-intuitive to test players' real skills.

Heck, why not just put in a EZ pool and call an esoteric set of skills such as that a part of the test too? And even EZ is less esoteric than Kirby mods and Ex-termination, just saying

I still want to keep the ar8 map. However changing it to ar9 is the decision of the whole map selecting group, so there's nothing much I want to say.
And the combustion is a obviously a mistake, I really apologize for that.
