Hello there, I am just a spectator to this tournament and you guys are doing a great job but I feel the need to point out something that is missing in the first post. Heck, it's missing from most first posts in tournaments with group stages. How exactly are ties worked out in these tournaments, because although I can kind of work it out if I look on Challonge, it's not completely obvious.

Let's take Pool D as an example

Three teams were all on 2-1. In some competitions on this planet, goal difference may separate ties. Results against tied opponents may also be considered. Sometimes the second is ignored all together and there's some kind of a playoff a-la League of Legends. Unfortunately this is not in the rules at all so the team that didn't make it had to wait until all matches were played AND
for someone to tell them that they weren't through.

If I look at the Challonge Bracket, there's a column with wins against tied opponents. If someone managed to get onto that site they would at least know about this rule because it's shown on Challonge. However in this group 3 teams had 1 win against each other, meaning that this was also tied.

Looking at the matches Where are we? and Team Dio both won 2 maps in their lost matches whilst Reptile Falcons won 0. So could it be this that decided the fate of this group? Or was it the fact Where are we? and Team Dio lost only 2 maps in their won games. Whilst Reptile Falcons lost 5. Obviously the falcons were doomed either way, but if they won both their games 4-0 then it would have definitely been up for debate.

Of course, it's alright analysing the pool after all the matches were played but for some of these teams they were playing matches not knowing whether a win would be worthless to them progressing or not.

As I said at the beginning of this post, you guys have done a great job organising this tournament and a lot of the time criticism can be undeserved. However, this addition to intro posts in tournaments would be much welcome!

To pass the pools, the condition (on challonge) is "wins and points", let's take a look at Pool E as example, both teams had 8 points (each of them won at least 8 maps) but only one made it to the bracket, it's because one team won 2 matches and the other one match, and looking back to Pool D, each of them had 2 wins but Team Dio won more maps.

Any match between those 3 would've decided the fate of their pool. If the 3 Teams had 10 points and 2 wins I would've used something I can't on Challonge, the Score Difference Ratio, when you win a map over your opponent, there is a score difference, I would've added all the scores differences of the 10 maps a team won together and the two teams with the highest SDR would've passed the pool. I forgot to specify that on the main thread, I'll think of it for the future tournaments, thanks a lot!

I don't even know why you have been complaining in the first place, we're humans not mind readers or clairvoyants. We can't go around looking at every tournament mappool, the ones we're mostly looking at to not pick from are AntiBeat, OWCT and QCUP.

Expecting mappools to only have good maps that you love is like going to a sushi bar expecting to find the best burger you've ever tasted.

You know what's wrong in this. The logic.

Sorry about misunderstandings about if we were checking every tournament or not, that was actually our fault for not explaining what we were checking.
Regarding unranked maps i can also see the problem of picking them when they are in the ranking phase and what not, again our fault.

Also i'm pretty sure we never said anything about unranked maps not being the mappools so if you ask me we're free to put in as many as we want.

it was qualified during matches but it wasn't updated so we just rolled with it

In the future, please refrain from using maps that completely fall apart when you play without hitsounds. on Felys, I'm playing notes that have no sound behind them, and this puts certain players at a huge disadvantage

I'm obviously not TrickMirror but some players don't prefer to use hit sounds as it adds an additional sound that usually does not go with the music. Also if you are used to playing with no hit sounds then suddenly being half forced into playing with it is quite difficult to get used to.
I'm not saying that I agree with completely eliminating these picks but some of the pending/graveyarded maps have not been fully moded thus have few minor issues that may lower ones performance
In case of felys it originally has a sound to where the note is placed but because it is the BMS Edit the sound is a lot harder to hear/you can't hear it at all, which is a bit ridiculous if you've never heard of the original music

I have to say there will be more unranked maps in the coming rounds since, sadly, almost all ranked maps that are hard and suitable enough for matches are used in antibeat I, even if there are some hard maps ranked in these several months, its amount is still too small for so large mappools.
The problem is "There are not so many ranked maps" rather than "we want unranked maps", so #rankhardermaps2015

Ro32 (Round of 32) with Losers Bracket Round 1 to 3 will be BO7 (Best-Of-7): first team to achieve 4 points will win the match.
I assumed the bo7 format for Losers Round 3 implied that the round 1 mappool would be used. However, looking at Challonge, it says that Losers Round 3 is a bo9 format, going against what is listed in the rules. So first of all, which is it, and second of all, how does one determine which mappool will be played for each losers bracket match? I figured it would follow a similar format to NAT (see: http://puu.sh/ivVZR/7b06262c9f.png) but the second round was played with the round 1 mappool. Sorry if I'm missing something but I can't seem to find this information.

Rules are still rules, I just did a mistake on challonge, I apologize for that.

I can completely understand this, however you shouldn't forsake the mappool just because players think that way. In the end, putting way more unranked and even in TrickMirrors case, not hitsounded maps. In all honesty, have way more unranked won't do any justice. And if you guys keep challenging yourselves with these rules, im sure by antibeat 4/5 the unranked picks are totally worse. Im not saying no to unranked, im saying please use it appropriately. They are in WIP/Pending for a reason.

it really is VERY boring, especially when the song type is not something you really like, playing it all over again (in order to regain the feeling of the map) is never a good idea, and some maps are just appearing more than 2 times I think...

I would like to support Amai in this case. Certain maps this round don't seem fit, and I particularly abhor the Switched-on Lotus map as well. I've seen other players voicing discontent for a few picks, too. In a setting where players are not allowed to ban maps, this particularly strains their playing strategy, and I think it's actually counter-intuitive to test players' real skills.

Heck, why not just put in a EZ pool and call an esoteric set of skills such as that a part of the test too? And even EZ is less esoteric than Kirby mods and Ex-termination, just saying

I apologize to all viewers and participants for the events that occured last week-end, due to the lack of actual rules, burstlimit vs. #arsecrackers couldn't be handled as it should've been. All arguements were valid to point any team to win and advances to the Losers Finals, it's a pity that this kind of situation had to happen at this stage of the tournament, nonetheless, a rematch will be held NEXT week-end, (this week-end being particularly hard to schedule for both team.) on Saturday, when the Losers Finals will be held Sunday (then the 26th and 27th September.). This kind of rematches should NEVER happen, and that's why the All-Star comittee has etablished new rules for those kind of situations to never happen again:

New rules:

  1. If a player get DC'd before the first third of the match, if a FC from him would've changed the outcome of the match, a rematch is allowed.
  2. During the second third and last third, if the player who DC'd, still held a FC, and a complete FC would've changed the outcome, a rematch is allowed, if, nonetheless, if his actual score changes the outcome of the match, his score is actually counted with his team's score.
  3. If a player who DC'd once, DCs once again, his score is nullified and any other DC from him/her would lead to no-rematch.
  4. If a player from the same team DCs as well, it CAN lead to a rematch following the rules above, if a player from his team who already DC'd, DCs once again, it would lead to no rematch as his teammate's score was nullified in the first place.
  5. A map who has been rematched cannot be played again UNLESS the opponent team gets a DC and then leads a third rematch.
  6. Each team has 2 rematch allowed maximum.
  7. If 2 players from the same team DCs, no rematch will be allowed. Even if the opponent team gets one DC.
  8. If there is a DC from both teams, we will allow a rematch. If the DC'd players witnesses their first DC in the match, both team will "lose" one possibility to rematch afterwards.
  9. Players MUST use either stable/beta client as it's their responsabilities to ensure their network connection is stable.
  10. RESPECT the referee's decision.
  11. If any DCs looks shady/suspicious, referee must report it in the next second to me. (Disconnecting on purpose before a very hard part, having enough points to win the map if the questionable player does not fail.)
  12. Chatlogs will be monitored and questionable materials can be reported by either team and are subjected to review by the tournament committee. For parts that are obviously in direct violation of game rules (i.e. racist comments, personal threats, etc.), a report will be filed to relevant osu! staff. Otherwise, referee reserves the right to deal out punishment in the following order: (1. Warning -> 2. Forbidding the violating player to participate in the current match -> 3. Forbidding the violating team to participate in the current match and thus resulting in a default win of the opposing team)
  13. Tournament committee reserves the right to the final interpretation of all rules stated and not.

  4. Surprisingly, congratulations to A-95, despite being a statiscally a weaker team than the others, advanced a lot far in the tournament!
