While it's very likely that Millhiore is right, the map is only HP4 so it's possible to pass it with tag tactics.
i.e. plan ahead what circles to ignore and only play parts of that bs pattern which will be just enough to keep yourself alive (every circle is an NC + HP4 = it's enough to even play only half of them. Besides it's only 255bpm jumps, you can just play this normally if you think about it...)

-nevermind just tested-. lol @ notelock. tag tactics don't work

it's a hacker, the guy had several bs replays iirc

Utage is theoretically possible - I made a test map for the second spam, and even through notelocking I managed to hit every single red and green note and lived. This was with halftime though, and even then I only manage it one in 30 tries or so - it's more economic at that point to just do it with easy and have a MUCH easier time passing, as well as getting more points.
-Selentia
Clearly Four Dimensions is harder than Atama, though so, let's just don't forget about Miku's Mythologia's End... Cookiezi was ranked #1 on both of the songs, however in comparison of his accuracy on these two songs his hits were more accurate on Four Dimensions. Not tryin' to take Cookiezi as a comparing-mechanism or something but Four Dimensions and Mythologia's End are definitely in the list of god songs in Osu.

Utage wa Eien ni [TAG4], Big Money, Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu (Hommarju Remix) are all up there.

As for legit maps, probably Freedom Dive.

Big Money, Hatsune Miku no Shoushitsu (Hommarju Remix) are the hardest serious/real maps.
The hardest joke map which is still playable would be Shade - Terrible Beat.

isn't that what big money is? just 1/2 all over the place in the most impossible and frustrating patterns possible, only to be interrupted by 1/4 at 280 BPM?

That's just retarded. Big Money has a lot of patterns and structure. Just because it's hard, doesn't mean it's just spam.
Wishy
Thing is it's not considered a serious map by many since you made it pretty much cause Cookiezi wanted something hard.

Airman: 200 BPM map with lots of huge and hard to follow (snap requiring) jumps. Fun map even for mid-level players.
MLP gay rainbow dash map: Lots of short-to-mid 220 BPM jumps, lots of hard patterns but overall under the realm of things considered doable in this game. Lots of snapping required. Fun map for fast players.
Atama no something [Nogard]: Lots of mid 240bpm jumps. Low OD. Short. Intuitive patterns. Fun for most players provided they can single tap 240 bpm.

Big money: Garbled mess of 1/4 140 bpm mid-to-high distance jumps. Ridiculous patterns. Streams may require tap + K2. Hard to read even on max AR.

By structure I mean patterns - actual thought-out-by-the-mapper maps, and not 1/2 spam over the screen like Anti You or G-Garden that are simply jump-all-over-non-stop.

there is a slight difference between hard and "TORNADO SQUAREs HUEHUE BRBRBRBR"-retardedness.

physical limitation isn't an excuse to call a map bad

i'd much prefer tornado squares (actually love how these patterns stand out + the feeling of hitting them) over full screen jumps that don't flow with the song

Thing is even maps like Gotsta Terrify [0108] have structure and stuff and I'd dare to say they play fine (with the song) yet they are so hard that people can't properly feel that so they call them joke maps.

Nevertheless having patterns on a map that you made just because you wanted something hard doesn't mean it has structure. Not referring to Big Money but overall, Shoushitsu does not have random 1/2 jumps but patterns all over the map so we might as well say that's a proper map with patterns that were thoughout by the mapper.
Aqo

Purple wrote:

lol'd

people should just stop talking about maps they didn't actually try playing

if by current standards aesthetic equals structure then you get into a very complex opinionated situation where you can't really define what's structure or not since everybody has a different idea of what's aesthetic. Why not instead use connection between the song and the map to define whether it has structure? Rather than saying anti you lacks structure since the object placement is ugly and the antijumps are annoying to play, say that it lacks structure since the spacing style is completely random and doesn't follow any of the song's rhythms or even stanza spread consistency.

Shoushitsu's object timing nor object placement follows anything in the song other than the bpm itself, by this logic it's a shitmap. Whether you find the patterns on it consistent or aesthetic, they follow nothing in the song. Big Money, for the most part, does follow the song with the timestamps, and has a pattern spacing design that is consistent with stanzas in the song, so with the same logic it's not a shitmap but rather a "very hard map".

Gotsta might have consistent parts in it, but I'm pretty sure it's just because val used copypaste while making it. He was probably laughing during the entire creation of that map.

MillhioreF wrote:

You're right about it being harder, but is it even a map? xo

This thread has become at this point a very philosophical (lol) debate about "what is a map" (should Tag4 even count? It wasn't made to be played by one person to begin with) and "what do you go by for -hard-" (hard to pass with default settings? hard to pass with HP7? hard to FC with retries? hard to FC in an average play? hard to SS? hard to SS on OD10?)
Since every combination of answers to these questions results in a different "hardest" map.

Why not just go into edit, open a random song, put 10000bpm, put a long slider, use the convert slider to stream tool, and post it here ;w; it's just as good as anything people were linking in the last few pages. (maybe lock?)

There's a threshold where all beatmaps are equally hard. I think that comes when you put 10+ circles offscreen at HP10. If you're gonna count unranked maps, I think that one wins for sure (as well as any similar map)

On the normal version of the calc that is locked at difficulty 9000, all of those are paired. But on the version without the limiter, lewatuuba wins with an outstanding difficulty level that cuts through skies with the power of a thousand suns.

Top-tip: ctrl+c copies difficulty info into your clipboard. And this is not capped by anything, only the GUI display is. (Despite all diffs over 9000 getting displayed the same way they are still sorted correctly.)

Yeah it's easy to have 97-98% up until the ending part. Usually kills me to 95-96%.
-Selentia
If we're comparing the amount of S/SS's on the maps, Cry For Eternity may be one, since White Wolf and Cookiezi were the only people to achieve an S for the map.
Streams that require finger dexterity, smaller hit circles require high cursor accuracy, and the song itself is long enough (lasting around 8 minutes).
One of the hardest songs to S.

considering when they fc'd them, no. Far from the hardest beatmaps.
-Selentia
Literally if we don't include the TAG4 maps, and regardless of when/how many players FC'ed it, 4d is the hardest in my opinion. Cookiezi was the only person to FC it without a difficulty reduction mod, where else everyone else below him who FCed mostly used a Half Time mod.
You can't deny the fact that it is so stamina draining.
lolcubes
It's actually a lot harder to aim those streams at the end than to keep your stamina up to par.
Trust me on this one. ;_;

exactly. streaming 222bpm continuously isn't that hard once you hit that level, which is about most of top 1000 or 500 in pp i bet. it's the spacing of the streams that fails almost everyone

True... The stream spacing is wider in the last section of 4d when you have to literally accelerate the speed of your cursor
buny
i find the streams that twist and sharp bends to be harder than those spaced ones
Shadow
Looked thought most of the thread, but I'm kinda surprised no one mentioned Savage Garden - I Want You

This is candidate one of the hardest maps, in my opinion. (which just a handful of full combo's)

Another one worth mentioning is a Kirby Mix, being quite old still only has 1 FC.

Basshunter - Ievan Polkka Trance Remix

[AirCoN] wrote:

1- pp is shit.

2- Most people can't stream 222 BPM.

3- Even between those who can, most have not enough stamina to do it through the whole map.

4- Even between those who can endure that intensive streaming, most can't follow those streams properly.

That's how it is. :p

Shadow:

Both those maps are very old and use a style that most people now don't really play at all (old maps = few plays too). I Want You = very low AR and non-sense jumps, Ievan Polkka is nicely mapped yet again it uses a low AR (was it 7?). That Kirby's map in fact has no FC, White Wolf got a slider break iirc. They are all old scores anyways I'm quite sure top players can FC that map if they practice it long enough, which is not possible on maps like Freedom Dive, Kokou no Sousei or Atama (imo). Nevertheless yeah they are very hard ones.
buny
hard to fc doesn't necessarily mean it's hard overall
Tanzklaue

buny wrote:

if the map is easy to pass, but hard to fc, then it means that the difficultysettings are ridiculously low (AngeHoney does that often). or that there are some nasty patterns that are hard to fc, in which this statement is true.
Wishy
Both those maps have pretty much some nasty patterns that are just very hard to hit even while the rest of the map is quite doable.

So why is Lemon Tree seen as such a hard map? It doesn't seem all that hard. Granted, I probably couldn't pass it, but it doesn't seem as "impossible" as people make it out to be.

Lemon Tree was originally the first map to ever do that, iirc. And it's so 'special' because it was a random noob who made it, and it turned out to be an April Fools joke when staff members decided to approve Lemon Tree on April 1st. The map got deleted though, that's just a reupload.
