So much hate for low AR on high BPM songs, wow
It's like some of you guys would like to have just 1 circle at a time appear on your screens.

Just have fun, and stop complaining about low AR's and saying things like "OMG THIS MAP SHOULD HAVE AR 10.3 INSTEAD OF 9 BECUZ THE BPM IS 231 AND THE SLIDERS APPEAR TOO SLOW AND I CANT FOLLOW OMGZ MAKE GAME EASIER PLS.

It's all just a matter of practise

Which is a difficulty in itself. This has nothing to do with "being used to an AR". AR8 is friggin easy for me on <180bpm, even AR7 on most maps except for some monstrosities galvenize created like the new gold dust or mission ascii :b
The standard level for nearly all maps that exist for this game is having to read 4 objects up ahead. Anything that is less or more than this means that the map is using a nonstandard AR, either being too easy or too hard, creating an extra "AR difficulty" for the map in question.
Whether you want this or not is up to the mapper, and mods like HR and ES exist to give players the choice. Except this stops working at a bpm like 280. Giving more AR diversity allows more players to enjoy the same map better (and again, at this speed level HR/ES no longer give you the choice since it's already 10...)

If you can't read more than 5 objects at once on the screen, then you probably don't have the level required for this map anyway.
Plus the main difficulty of Big Money is the bpm itself and how hard it is to keep the singletap on those jumps, AR is not the issue here.

Cookiezi played it relax and the only part he missed on was the part I mentioned as being problematic to read.
He clearly had the speed to play a bunch of much harder and more spaced jumps that the map had in a bunch of other parts, and consistently. The only thing that stopped him from FC is the reading part there.

AR *is* the issue.

Cookiezi told me himself the problem in Big Money is that he can't singletap 280BPM 1/2 consistently, and the jumps would be okay if it was a slightly smaller BPM like 260-270.

That's the reason he has many miss in a regular play compared to a relax play, it's not related to the fact he missed on that pattern with relax. Having trouble with singletap doesn't make you aim-miss. Obviously the map is also hard as hell to play physically; I just pointed out one part in it that has an unreadable pattern.

WW also passed atama nogard with HR.

add to that that atama nogard has 2 almost perfect scores in Nikos and Cookiezis records and it gets really clear which is harder.

Too bad the problem with mittens isn't the size of the squares since the circles themselves are pretty big. They are challenging, but the storyboard is the only issue there.

With regard to atama vs four dimensions, I believe four dimensions is more difficult. Four dimensions is pretty hard to follow already, and requires the most endurance of any ranked map out there. Atama, while technically difficult, can be practiced (mainly doing the squares sections over and over) until you have the muscle memory to pass them. You can just go into the editor and practice those sections individually 20 times over, until you can consistently hit them. You can't just go practice a rough section of four dimensions, because the map is just one giant test of stamina. I think in the long run, four dimensions turns out to be the harder map. Atama feels like it can be practiced and learned, whereas four dimensions is just a test of wills. Not many players are even physically capable of getting a full combo on four dimensions, much less a full combo with 96%+ accuracy, or even 98%+. Sure, maybe there are a select few streaming specialty players out there who can scrape through it with 88-90% acc and a decent combo, but that's not the same as throwing down a convincing replay, making the map look like it's your bitch. Only two players in osu can do that.

I give my nod to Four Dimensions for the current hardest ranked map.

While it's very likely that Millhiore is right, the map is only HP4 so it's possible to pass it with tag tactics.
i.e. plan ahead what circles to ignore and only play parts of that bs pattern which will be just enough to keep yourself alive (every circle is an NC + HP4 = it's enough to even play only half of them. Besides it's only 255bpm jumps, you can just play this normally if you think about it...)

Utage is theoretically possible - I made a test map for the second spam, and even through notelocking I managed to hit every single red and green note and lived. This was with halftime though, and even then I only manage it one in 30 tries or so - it's more economic at that point to just do it with easy and have a MUCH easier time passing, as well as getting more points.

Clearly Four Dimensions is harder than Atama, though so, let's just don't forget about Miku's Mythologia's End... Cookiezi was ranked #1 on both of the songs, however in comparison of his accuracy on these two songs his hits were more accurate on Four Dimensions. Not tryin' to take Cookiezi as a comparing-mechanism or something but Four Dimensions and Mythologia's End are definitely in the list of god songs in Osu.

i'd much prefer tornado squares (actually love how these patterns stand out + the feeling of hitting them) over full screen jumps that don't flow with the song

Thing is even maps like Gotsta Terrify [0108] have structure and stuff and I'd dare to say they play fine (with the song) yet they are so hard that people can't properly feel that so they call them joke maps.

Nevertheless having patterns on a map that you made just because you wanted something hard doesn't mean it has structure. Not referring to Big Money but overall, Shoushitsu does not have random 1/2 jumps but patterns all over the map so we might as well say that's a proper map with patterns that were thoughout by the mapper.

people should just stop talking about maps they didn't actually try playing

if by current standards aesthetic equals structure then you get into a very complex opinionated situation where you can't really define what's structure or not since everybody has a different idea of what's aesthetic. Why not instead use connection between the song and the map to define whether it has structure? Rather than saying anti you lacks structure since the object placement is ugly and the antijumps are annoying to play, say that it lacks structure since the spacing style is completely random and doesn't follow any of the song's rhythms or even stanza spread consistency.

Shoushitsu's object timing nor object placement follows anything in the song other than the bpm itself, by this logic it's a shitmap. Whether you find the patterns on it consistent or aesthetic, they follow nothing in the song. Big Money, for the most part, does follow the song with the timestamps, and has a pattern spacing design that is consistent with stanzas in the song, so with the same logic it's not a shitmap but rather a "very hard map".

Gotsta might have consistent parts in it, but I'm pretty sure it's just because val used copypaste while making it. He was probably laughing during the entire creation of that map.

Hardest map is definitely xi - Freedom Dive [FOUR DIMENSIONS] Considering the fact that you have to have the stamina to do constant spaced streams at 222bpm and stuff.

This thread has become at this point a very philosophical (lol) debate about "what is a map" (should Tag4 even count? It wasn't made to be played by one person to begin with) and "what do you go by for -hard-" (hard to pass with default settings? hard to pass with HP7? hard to FC with retries? hard to FC in an average play? hard to SS? hard to SS on OD10?)
Since every combination of answers to these questions results in a different "hardest" map.

Why not just go into edit, open a random song, put 10000bpm, put a long slider, use the convert slider to stream tool, and post it here ;w; it's just as good as anything people were linking in the last few pages. (maybe lock?)

There's a threshold where all beatmaps are equally hard. I think that comes when you put 10+ circles offscreen at HP10. If you're gonna count unranked maps, I think that one wins for sure (as well as any similar map)
