Obviously the design hasn't been customised yet, as that would take place further down the line, but here is a photo of the tablet. Note that the business card is only there for a size comparison, as I had nothing else on my desk which would be universally recognised.



To answer some questions: The pen is comfortably thick to hold. You can hover it further away from the tablet than any wacom I have used previously. It does not have pressure sensitive input. I'd like to look into getting a smaller size, but that may end up costing much more due to being non-standard, so assume the 8x5 or 8x6" for now.

As for customisation, I don't want to make it too obnoxious (aka pink), so it would likely remain black, but have osu! artwork printed on the tablet surface or border. I'd also hope to change the orange status light on it to pink or blue :P.

The tablet looks comfortable to use.. I like very much how simple it is. Also, the osu! logo would look awesome on it.
I would like to buy one of these but I got a Bamboo tablet recently. It's really a shame because this one is a lot more cheaper than the one I bought. :?

I would say "Yes" if it's osu! mouse and/or mousepad. Or maybe keyboard with osu! logo on Windows key cap. xD

I already have a tablet, but I may but an osu! tablet to have a portable one or something to use with my laptop. Considering I don't use my tablet for anything but osu!, I would have loved this deal back when I was still making my purchase.

If it's good enough, you may even get people outside of the osu! community buying it as a budget tablet. Wouldn't it be funny to see Wacom make a new model to compete with the osu! tablet's price range?

I thought, it was Touchscreen Tablet like iPad (osu!stream) or Tab (osu!droid), so it looks like "touchscreen monitor extension for Windows 7 *especially osu!*".

oh, I'm wrong. It looks much more like drawing pad instead of touchscreen tablet.

looks I won't buy that. playing osu! with pen like that is really hard... better "touch with fingers" XD

hm, problem is, with the shipping costs, it's probably as expensive as a wacom tablet. so it isn't a real alternative, and the only thing that makes it special is that it is an osu!-tablet.

if the price was much lower as a wacom tablet, it would be an real alternative (and without shipping, it already is that kind of alternatve).

I think of this as a terrible idea, because:

1- Most people usually say "YEAH I'D BUY THAT XD" but actually they won't for several reasons. They even don't care that much, or are underage and have no way to pay for it, etc.

2- You can get an excellent Wacom product for pretty much the same money or maybe a little more. There is no real reason to buy some new brand, not as good product just to save a few bucks. Remember Wacom's CTH 460 (tablet everyone used before CTL series came out) is only $55 on Amazon, while pen only model must be a little cheaper (guessing around 45 bucks from the price difference I saw years ago when I bought my tablet). So, would you buy a random brand (no offense) tablet instead of a top brand one just for saving like 10 bucks? General answer will be: no.

3- People buying graphic tablets for serious reasons (not for osu!) will get a Wacom, always, since they're the best for any kind of art/design works. Really you gotta be an idiot if you seriously intend to do some design works and get an osu! tablet instead of a Wacom just for saving 15 bucks, which is not that much money anyways.

4- People buying a tablet just for osu! obviously don't care that much about money (yo you're buying a tablet for a goddamn rhythm game), and since they will ask for advice here and everyone will tell them Wacom is the best and that pros use Wacom tablets, then they'll probably go for the same. If you buy a tablet just for osu! it usually means you're somewhat serious about it, so you won't risk getting a possibly bad/worse tablet.

5- Battery pen is a bad and uncomfortable feature too.

6- Used Wacom tablets are way cheaperr, and usually work just fine for osu!.

If you want it to really sell in the end, you gonna have to make it WAY cheaper than a Wacom, 10 bucks cheaper is not enough imo (well, idiots may buy it/people wanting to support osu!). Well, actually most people are clueless about this kind of stuff, so yeah you could give it a try if there's no much to lose. I might buy one just for the sake of having it, wouldn't give it any use though since my Wacom is 2 years old and still perfectly working.

This, sadly. 65% of the community (based on this General Discussion poll) are less than 18 years old and probably don't have a credit card to buy a tablet. The poll results here are thus heavily distorted.

I am pretty sure for example that Renobagus (3 posts above), even if he says yes, won't buy one because 1/ he is 14 years old and 2/ he plays CtB.

I wouldn't exactly call wacom an excellent product more like a monopolizing product. They did have better features at one point in time like individual pen ID's and dual track which would work wonders when used with mudbox but thats the past. You need to remember that wacom's aren't meant to be used for clicking circles vigorously for hours on end and having my pens cost about 55 bux a piece after shipping to replace, playing osu! with it really isn't an option. Sure I could buy a bamboo but why buy something that will ultimately have the same fate as its big brother? Being what peppy offers has no pressure support this already elevates the main point of failure in the wacom pens and I can almost guarantee that it will out last any wacom pen and be cheaper to replace in the event of failure.

Peppy isnt selling this to make art with but a fun fact is that you'd be surprised what you can get away with on a cheap tablet or when your pen's pressure sensor is shot.

The tablet area is a bit too big for my taste. Most people would prefer something smaller than 3.5x5.9 inches (9x15cm).

Let's just hope the software will allow you to keep the aspect ratio when changing tablet area.

idk if this is true but from what I heard CTL-460 is discontinued (and I'm pretty sure so is CTH-460) and it is the only Wacom tablet that costs less than 100$ which you can get your hands on in the market easily. Maybe you still can get them on eBay or Amazon however they might already be old and/or in limited stock. Also CTL-460 seems to have the least durability compared to any Wacom tablet with higher price.

To everyone saying "wacom tablets are cheaper than 50 bucks hurr durr", I want some proof. A listing on a site where you can buy wacom tablets (as in more than one) would suffice. Posting an eBay/amazon link would just prompt me to bring up the <$50 gaming consoles listings.

I would purchase this tablet if the total price was under 60 bucks. I already own a wacom tablet, but I would buy it for the same reason you buy novelty anime plushies for 15+ dollars instead of buying animal plushies for 1-2 dollars. Assuming it looks cool (not just the osu! logo put in the playfield of a black tablet), I would have no problem in selling my wacom and buying it. Put some subtle advertising around the site, and people who are looking to play with a tablet will go to the osu! tablet first.

Protips for everyone who can't purchase online, buy prepaid credit cards. It's easy to set up, they work really well and I can confirm that they work for purchasing real life goods. Usually there isn't a tax to buying it and most sites accept them.

Agreed. Nowadays its very hard to seach for CTL-460 which is the cheapest Wacom tablet products, and if i did found one, the condition was already in a not-very-good condition. The fact is, i have Hanvon Rollick 0607 with me now and i'm getting used to it but it lacks of response in short distance compared to 1st generation of Wacom product. I do have more things to say, but since Frizz already said the things right from my mouth...

Going smaller unfortunately would bump the price up a fair amount :(.
The drivers do allow full control over this (and have the same if not more options than wacom's drivers).

I can attest to the precision of this tablet being very usable for graphic work. I have been using it with photoshop over the last few days without issue.

Dunno if they've been discontinued but there's still a big stock available you can find on Amazon, EbaY or stores depending where you live.

Last thing you said is just wrong, do some research. CTH-460 is around 50-55 bucks (I've had that tablet for 2 years, never had a single problem) brand-new on Amazon.

Then again I doubt some random brand tablet will have a better durability than a top brand one. At least I'd rather trust Wacom instead of "osu! tablet". Of course, if this tablet had some part changed just for the sake of having a great durability for tap players, then yeah,it MIGHT be a good option.

You'd be amazed of how shit is being sold every day all over the world, even when you can get better stuff at the same price if not cheaper. ;)

Not saying his product will be bad, just saying for obvious reasons he won't be able to reach Wacom's quality, and getting a lower quality (overall) product for the sake of saving 5 bucks (assuming you get a brand new product) is kind of dumb. And if you do A LITTLE research, you'll find out buying osu! tablets will make you save the huge amount of money of: $5, which isn't really a smart idea since you can use that little extra money to get a safe, top quality product. Not that you don't do that already whenever you buy... pretty much anything.

I've been wanting to make the jump to playing with a tablet, and if there's an official osu! branded tablet with a good looking design I might have to make that jump a lot sooner. :)

I'm liking the sounds of it all so far, and my birthday is soon so I know what my present would be if these were put out. :P

All things being equal, I would love an osu! logo tablet, especially considering it is the only thing I ever use my Wacom for. However, I am hesitant to spend the money on it at this point because my Wacom still works, and because I don't have the money to just buy another tablet for the logo.

However, if the reviews are good and something happens to my Wacom, I would most definitely enjoy an Osu! tablet.

Well judging from what peppy posted on page 4...

- Form factor ( I love the square shape vs the rectangular clt 460)
- Battery operated pen ( Added weight and bulk looks much more comfortable )
- Hover distance ( One of my gripes even after months of practice, I suspect the battery is what increases this )
- Add in a nice design with a pink light and i'm sold

2 - Obviously the osu! design novelty plays a role in the purchase of one, but peppy mentioned that this tablet has more hover distance then any the Wacom tabs he has tried which in my opinion is a convincing enough feature to make the purchase.

4 - I see kids buying $100+ gaming peripherals from modded controllers (just for looks... leds, lights) to mech keyboards, I see no difference here.

When I got my first tablet for osu, I was living in Korea, and I was able to get a used tablet for around $40 with shipping, but not lower. Considering this is a new, customized(!) tablet with at most $50 after shipping, I think with the right promotion players looking for a tablet in Korea will show great interest too.

I'm actually getting pretty excited thinking about a osu! tablet, I'm seeing a multiple variations in my head, my favorite being a blue base color and the pink logo either in the center or on the corner of the tablet. I wish I wasn't so late so I could vote Yes. Just keep in mind that i'm willing to order it now, heck I would preorder it in a heartbeat, just wait till this friday haha I just bought a surface rt and running low on money.

I really hope this happens!

1- Many parents just go "gtfo" when you ask them for something pretty much useless/aimed for a game. I know many players that never got a tablet for this game because of that.

2- It's gonna be a standard tablet. Plus being able to hover 3 km over it isn't really that useful at all, + the fact that you got to charge your pen. You're not gonna save any considerable amount of money either (and I'm not sure you gonna save money at all).

4- Those are a minority. Most people don't spend tons of money like that. And yet even some of those don't really like spending much money in something they will only use specifically for 1 game.

Again, I'm not saying this is a SUPER TERRIBLE IDEA, possible profit is low and risk is high.

It's useless to compare Wacom with osu!tablet. We even didn't know what manufacture make osu!tablet.

I'm 14 and I'm saving money to buy tablet. You're big enough, don't ask everything to your parents like you're a king / queen.

Just say yes or no. If you still want to compare it, go make a new thread.

well wishy why do you just have to see the bad things in everything. some people may want to have a tablet with osu! on it and not everyone is playing like they are super pro. also it is not extremely pricey and you can not get this anywhere else.. but i agree with the pen battery that sounds a bit awkward

Cause peppy is asking this because he's gonna make some considerable INVESTMENT. Retarded optimism is no good for this kind of stuff, you gotta be at least a little objective. Point being only real pro about this is you may save a few bucks and get an osu! logo, real situation is you're paying a little less (if not the same or even more, didn't research that much) for a lower quality product. Since people usually ask others what to buy, and most will tell them Wacom (since pretty much EVERYONE uses a Wacom nowadays) this could be an epic failure, which means lose money. Some of the other reason I stated are just a reality, everyone will always say "yay I'll but it", truth is MOST WON'T because of any reason you can think of.

If I was peppy I wouldn't take the risk.

I would be interested... if I didn't already have a tablet :/ But then again, I'm not 100% pleased with my current tablet anyway (VisTablet PenPad).

If this tablet is non-flexible (like most tablets), is able to use a standard tablet pen, and doesn't rely on special OS drivers to function, I think it would be pretty awesome, and would most likely be something I'd purchase, in the future.

With my current tablet; first off, it's flexible. This is bad when placing it on anything that isn't flat (like a bed or couch). Second, the tablet gets interference when placed on a metal surface. My desk is metal. If I place my tablet directly on the table, it either won't register the pen's location, or it'll do so very poorly (making it pretty useless). Third, the tablet doesn't seem to use a standard pen interface (it doesn't use a wacom digitizer thing, but I also wasn't able to use a cheap $15 pen on it).

All I care about is how light the pen is, and how accurately the tablet measures pressure.

As for the battery I have rechargeable ones with a usb battery charger so it's kinda moot for me.

I'd like to buy one of these but let me suggest the following stuffs:

  • - Pen and tablet-surface should not scratch when in contact, so you can lie down without losing smoothness in motion
    - Along with that, the driver would have to allow disabling the click on pentip / letting us as the users adjust what a tap does
I used to use a Trust TB-5300 and these two were the major reasons for not getting any Wacom tablet as I experienced that as quite big issues, at least to my style of playing.

For one I am fairly certain that a large majority of the people saying/voting yes have only the intentions of having one. I would be incredibly surprised were even half of them to actually buy one.

Second there are several flaws to this including size, batteries, and pressure sensitivity that while not really fatal will be a big deal to most people.

Third you stated that the intention was to make it cheaply available to everyone. With this comes at the cost of certain elements in a tablet people want for more than just the purpose of osu!. If you can pay a few more dollars and get one with many more capabilities then you probably will.

Fourth, from what you said the initial investment is large indeed. If the amount of units you'll have to acquire are equally large then you'll have many headaches dealing with holding onto your stock, and let's not even get into the tech support/malfunctioning products part. Without the possibility of profit to aid osu! in some way this will just drag it down rather than help. On top of that, these are not an easy sell really, I don't think the rate of sales on them would be fast.

Fifth there is a lot you have not stated that we need to know to really help in a decision such as how many units and how much of an initial investment it is.

Way I see it from everything is that it's not necessarily the best investment for this situation. Were the company to for instance offer a tricked out for osu! styled tablet that you would simply point users to and for each one purchased you received a sort of finders fee (less than you could get from buying them in bulk and holding the burden but without any burden whatsoever) for selling their tablets for them then I would greatly encourage it as long as the quality held up.

One unlikely possibility to negate the risk would be to have the users actually commit to buying one before you order them. This is highly unlikely to work but it is plausible. Have everyone who really wants one to essentially order a ticket (like a pre-order but paid in full, not just $5 down) from you for the tablet. If you meet the mark for how many you need to get sold to order them by a certain date then go with it, if not return the money and walk away without any loss. But again I can't see people actually willing to commit like this.

Other than that the only suggestion I would have because I personally really like the idea of the osu! tablet as an item would be to follow in the footsteps of game consoles like xbox, wii, ps3. If there is a way you can get for a slightly higher price a much lower stock then you can for instance get let's say 10 25 50 100 depending on the intentions. Deck those tablets out and make em gorgeous, none of that "Oh it has pippi in the corner, that makes it an osu! tablet" bs, deck that thing out. Then make them limited stock/edition (and/or one time only) with a certain way to get them. Could be as simple as simple as purchasing them in the osu! store or perhaps as giveaways to 10 random people that buy supporter during the month or whatever. The point being there are many largely devoted and obsessed users on osu! that would kill for say 1 of 10 ever made osu! tablets and would go to great lengths to get one, as well there are a lot of casual people who would throw a couple bucks for supporter for a chance to get one, but very few who would pay a large sum for something average/sub-par that everyone has.

tl;dr because I already know you won't read all of what I said or probably even half - High risk + low profit = bad investment. You can do better, get a better situation or better price. You hold ALL of the cards in this particular one and lose nothing from walking away. Take advantage of that.

Pretty much this. I've already invested in a Bamboo tablet and it seems like this tablet is pretty much the same if not worse than a Wacom.

Just noticed this poll now, lol. Anyhow, i have a few friends i would buy a tablet for, and if this is cheap i would definitely buy it for them as a present. The only thing thats stopping them (or me) from buying a wacom is the price or urgency in having a tablet.

Yes i have a tablet already (which i only use for osu!) and im sure people will be interested in buying a osu!tablet if its their first tablet considering how relatively more cheaper it is than a wacom. I am concerned about the battery pen tho.

@topic: I haven't checked the shipping rates, but I think it may still be cheaper than Wacoms(40$ = 130PLN, brand new Wacom Bamboo is 220PLN)

This would actually make me want to try out a tablet for osu!, even if I don't end up using it lots (because I end up liking the mouse better?), it'll be nice to have as a collectable even. (not a big fan of buying shirts hehe)

So yes, I would love to order one if you make them available!



Another suggestion that might help you sell them is to give a supporter tag for a month or two with the purchase maybe? You never know, it might sell more that way.. People like bonuses from stuff they buy ;)

This. I would have if this was available when I bought a tablet to replace mouse for Osu! but now it's too late for me.

And now I'm used to all the advantages the wacom bamboo has to offer like sensitivity in photoshop. I don't think I could get used to something different.

I still think it's totally cool and would sell well.

Hmm... To be completely, 100% honest, I'd need an opinion from a pro player who tried it out before I would consider going through the hassle of buying one (I would likely have to use a prepaid Visa card, which requires going through the "joys" of downtown to get ATM).

I'm thinking that the OWC physical prize is the tablets and when they are given out to the winners is when ppy will introduce them. Wishful thinking! I would be kind of sad though since I already spent most of my money on holiday shopping and wouldn't have much to spare till january.

Need beta testing from all range of players who use tablet and those who don't use. From Top tablet player to semi-pro player to beginner, from hovering and from touching to tapping. Most beginner wouldn't even know tablet exist if din see other players use or someone tells them.

Battery or no battery, need to know if it is much more easier to control and move for long hours and more comfy than normal tablet.

Btw, What is the length of lift-off detection for the pen and tablet before it can't detect ? and What is the battery for ?

Since I only use my current Bamboo Splash for Osu!, if something were to happen to it, this would be a cheap replacement that gives the same performance. I would certainly do such a thing.
