Simple question . I'm interested in getting a Japanese conversation thread going if there's enough interest!

Don't know many phrases, know just little sayings, like "Hai", "Iie", "Nani", and so forth. I also remember the numbers from 1-10. Ichi, Ni, San, Shi, Go, Roku, Nana, Kyuu, and Ju. XD
Hahaha, thanks. XDKylecito wrote:

Born in Japan, came to Australia at very young age. I speak Japanese at home with my parents.
Isn't it Ichi, Ni, San, Yon (Well, thats what my CD says, haven't used it in years tho), Go, Roku, Hachi, Nana, Kyuu, and JuStarrodkirby86 wrote:

shi/yon (4) and shichi/nana (7) are both interchangable and correct.Homestarrunner wrote:

Author's Note:This whole essay, although sprinkled with truisms here and there, is a joke and should be taken like one. I'm actually a Japanese major myself, and even if I've given it a bit of a hard time, I love the Japanese language, and I think everyone should give it a try.
You should just be ready for a whole lot of pain.
HAPPY LANGUAGE LEARNING!

A little bonus - the origin of the kanji is as follows:
「おはようございます」
ohayou gozaimasu (good morning)
「おはよーっす」→
ohayo-ssu
「おわーす」→
owa-su
「おす」
osu
「押して忍ぶ」(自我を抑え我慢する)
(押して)oshite (忍ぶ)shinobu (to push and withstand) - having the meaning of "swallowing one's ego and bearing with it"
Leads us to the final 「押忍」.
Hopefully I'm not too far off with this translation .

I know about 四 and 七, but are you sure ku isn't just a mispronunciation?Echo wrote:
yon/shi nana/shichi kyuu/ku
shi sounds like "death"
shichi sounds too similar to ichi
ku sounds like "suffering"
something like that >.<
I envy you. Our school only has French, Spanish, and I think German.Yosuke Hanamura wrote:
