Wrote all of this in ColdTooth thread about Omori But didnt wanted to derail the topic. Though, I think its a good topic to have a discussion about.
I have never played or watched gameplay of Omori, but what interests me is the concept of hating something because others love it. I think it's called contrarianism? Or maybe contrarian? I'm not sure. A year or two ago, I used to have this type of mindset where, if something was well-liked but I found it boring, I would start hating it, even though I had never experienced what I was hating. Whenever I heard the name, I would roll my eyes or get annoyed. Maybe it was influenced by memes? Games like Genshin, Roblox, Fortnite, etc. It's a dilemma I still struggle with—wondering if it's justifiable.
To be specific with the names I mentioned, these are quite good games, but in the past, I used to get really annoyed just hearing about them, or I might have even made fun of someone for playing them, simply because I found it annoying for no reason. The point I always try to use to justify my opinion is, 'Sure, the games are good on their own, but the community is bad or annoying.' And I think it's a valid point since a community around a game is also part of the experience. But is it justifiable to hate the game itself? Now a days I try to not make judgement quickly or without a thought.
I think its a good topic to discuss about. Should a game be hated solely based on its community, or is there room to separate the two? Can you objectively look at a game on its own merits without being influenced by its community?
Since I mentioned memes having an influence. I think its really important to be aware of how humor can change into despise for popular trends or games.
