Problematic storyboards with widescreen [confirmed] [resolved]

Already found a beatmap with a problematic storyboard.

The background displays in widescreen even though the storyboard elements remain letterboxed, resulting in the background being visible on the sides of the screen. The issue seems to only occur on the "deadbeat's Hard" difficulty, while the others are letterboxed correctly.

I've included a screenshot of the issue below.

ah in this map i dont know why my SB image went full wide screen (that background picture is SB, not BG, which suppose to be 4:3)

i ve checked im using latest public build updated up to post time

EDIT:

peppy u already have SB detection in "fun spoiler", maybe strict everything to 4:3 once SB detected, will be temporary solution to all ^ SB errors

This one is also experiencing some weird problems with the SB, mainly on the left side of the screen, sometimes is black and othertimes it shows a distorted background.

My SB is broken too. Checked on 3 PCs, all the same problem. Looks like you enlarged the BG image, but you didn't enlarge the SB stuff, so they appear smaller.

The normal BG without any SB effects going on:

When the SB effect happens (its supposed to be a purple version of the BG image with the same size, just like a purple flash), but it's smaller now, yesterday it was okay since the BG was not wide like now... :

imo you should just leave the bg images like they were before, or enlarge the sb as well or something... also happened with lots of other ranked maps that i tried... example:

Notice how the red effect, which is the same image as the BG but a bit redish, is supposed to have the same size as the bg image, but now it's smaller.

So, the issue is simple, peppy: The new bgs are wider than before, the SB's aren't.

Why not just back former specifications that nothing issue?

To those saying that "backgrounds are too wide", this is not the case. When a storyboard is present, the background is not scaled to widescreen. The only issue is when a storyboard is not detected (ie. when there are only a few storyboarded elements), and this will improve as I work on detection.

In other words, the issue with scaling being wrong is only happening on maps that has "flash" layers.
The other issue is clipping no longer being present, causing areas which were previously hidden off-screen to now be visible. Depending on how the storyboard was made, this may result in unintended behaviour.

I am working on both of these cases and not looking for solutions, but examples.

I set osu on 1440x900 FullScreen

I think the black borders should be totally removed.

also There,on the right side, i experience it on every beatmap with video.

The new update seems to have fixed the problem. Although it's still problematic with this song:

the BG layer should be hidden during SB, but its not

I have observed some weird issues with moving sprites. There are probably other issues still left.

Do not make a new taiko bg template. Instead wait until i hard-code "taiko bg" into osu!, then fix all the created ones (by removing them).

Hopefully by hard code you mean, make it a skin object and thus skinnable. because there's no sense forcing all songs of a particular gamemode to use the same background, at least in my opinion. you should at least give members of the taiko community a way to stylize their maps as creatively as other gamemodes. (Same for osu, mania, when someone wants to make a mania background. Let us create one that scales properly.

I mean coding the text into the game, and allowing an offset of the standard background. Wrong thread, though.

this is still borked but not sure if you have put out the "next bulid"
the bg is hidden but objects are still not clipping out as they should.

Likely due to rotations. This may be fixed in the future, but should affect a minimal number of maps for now. Re-resolving.

I thought that the problem was just with widescreen (due to the map having a couple of SB elements), but it seems that the background gets fit to height in 4:3 as well. This is a special case (since the background should've been landscape instead of portrait), but it fit to width in old versions and it doesn't make sense to have it look nice for song select/loading and then switch to something else! :p

1. The images in chapter 2 won't be loaded at first attempt.

No, the map has a lots of wide scrolling images but that is the only one not cutted.

1. Images are not always accurately cropped (sometimes a few pixels off). Moving background looks "shaking" at the border. This happens in 4:3 resolutions too.

2. Some images are not properly cropped. Rotated images are not cropped.

u need to make new thread and put this video in. i think noone will look over it in "resolved" thread. this bug with flashing borders confirmed by many ppl already, and lasts from the first day update with widescreen bg support.

Not sure if we're still posting examples but two of my maps, http://osu.ppy.sh/s/41162 and http://osu.ppy.sh/s/52439 are busted.


EDIT: Ranking screens for custom skins are busted as well, but this is a problem on my part I'd say. Gotta update.
