i used to have at least a dozen or so conventional animal plushies when i was super young, if i remember correctly...? but i had to move several years ago, and since then i've never known where those went. about a few years ago, we were no longer able to afford the storage cells and all of our remaining items were taken as collateral so maybe they're somewhere out there

yes!! i actually really enjoy country, as long as it doesn't have electronic drums in it lol (most modern country does now... but i found a guy called warren zeiders that makes some rlly good country music!! listen to heartbreaker and betrayal by him, they're really good!!)

mm i probably don't like enough that would qualify for these genres but i do like some music that incidentally happens to look/sound at least vaguely influenced by rap/hip-hop or perhaps even their influences as well

is it unsettling for you because of the sound design, or is it lyrical content? there are lots of elements to that sort of thing, and in my case it's definitely a toss-up between the two but it's usually both, worse if it blends together so much that it just feels stale

but i listen to a lot of music with commonly-questioned lyrical content, not really because there's something in particular i'd endorse, but for a more specific artistic rationale of experiential expression and a particular kind of human catharsis-- the rap/hip-hop you're probably thinking of might not really qualify super well for the experiential expression i enjoy, though

i normally am ambivalent about country-adjacent music, because it's extremely rare for me to relate to the subjects or feel represented by them, and the sound/texture of it just tends not to be easy for me to find interesting things to think about or feel something about...

which i would've claimed if i actually thought that's all it was, but honestly i don't really think it's stale or uninteresting. i think i just don't listen to enough to know what kind of country music i would like. if we were acquaintances irl and you had a playlist in a car or something then i would've totally been happy listening to it, it might actually even really be something i'd enjoy. not you specifically, but since you enjoy country, it seems plausible to use that kind of hypothetical scenario for illustration

i'm listening to heartbreaker so far, and i actually have a lot of undigested thoughts-- there's actually a lot lyrically interesting things going on in phonetic rhymes and lyrical subjects. as expected i don't really understand it exactly but i'm intrigued :> i actually would like to learn what specifically you look for and find in these songs

the "if they sound good, i like them" rationale is pretty much the same thing for me :>

with rap/hip-hop, i imagine this might partly be a difference of age and culture, because to me it's not necessarily about whether the topic is drugs, violence, [adult attraction/entertainment], et cetera-- but instead it's more precisely about how music addresses it, and it's for those "how" parts that i actually would generally agree with you and it's why i don't really have many interests in the genre cluster found there. and even then, if the music explores a sincere "undesirable" expression of a topic, it actually is helpful for me to learn about what that's like to people and see if i can understand people through that

i might be wrong to assume what underlying influences have you feeling wary about them, but i think it's healthy to not really fixate too deeply on avoiding these subjects in media. it actually blinds you a little if you're focused on some form of "moral purity" or anything like that, and i have online friends i know who are pretty vigilant about what they consume in a way that sounds maybe similar to how you sound about your tastes

i'm not that vigilant when it comes to music as a result of artistic and experientially humanistic value, but i'm a little more wary when it's part of a narrative or some kind of purposeful rhetoric, so i do have my own relationship with that sense of reaching for "moral purity", moreso because i have ideals i want to try adopting and i'd like to be consistent about them if i can-- but those ideals don't necessitate that i just not listen or look at something conventionally disagreeable

partially! more accurately, especially in childhood, i liked watching fandom-centric creepypasta videos in the early-mid 2010s (think "rainbow factory") and dark fiction around them (think "discorded doctor whooves") and horror games that played around that

but also sometimes they were just a few spaces of horror games in general, specifically the jrpg subgenre of horror games starting with titles like "corpse party"

in adolescence, it's changed a little. i used to actively seek out things that would horrify and disturb me, but now i'm kind of tired and i fixate a little more on specific interests that happen to have incidentally horror-adjacent disgust-adjacent themes

but instead of disliking them while playing personally, it's actually more that i couldn't or didn't. i either had the impression that these games were not free to access or i just didn't think to play them

(ah. misfortune.)

Next user listens to Camellia

occasionally! camellia is really good, but not exactly my specific circle of taste. very very fun, very meticulous sound design, lots of good energy and interesting progressions, and most of each song's sense of melody and harmony is competent

next user likes rock, punk or emo :>
Achromalia
,,,i don't know, would they count as rock/punk/emo? sometimes i'm not really sure what that would mean, and honestly i think i've listened to so much music without really paying attention to how they're labeled, and like... what kind of rock/punk/emo? they're such wide categories imo ;o; what do you think is rock/punk/emo?

but i've figured, i probably do like some songs that might be somewhere close to rock/punk/emo, but i probably don't listen to other kinds that would actually be defined by those genres as much yet...

i think where i visit is more accurately either somewhere within the "math rock"/"midwest emo"/"shoegaze"/"indie rock" range or the "j-rock" space

next user likes analog horror to some capacity
Achromalia
mm i think i tried it in childhood and early-mid teenhood but i lost interest in horror/creepypasta in general after that and only really hear about it in passing with its many mandela-clones, and the few i found didn't really interest me as much as i hoped they would :c

i like horror-ish things that are maybe similar to lacey's games at the moment, but it's hard to do it right in a compelling way imo

lostsilver wrote:
