So the app manga reader app known as tachiyomi has been nuked. Kakao Entertainment Corp threated with a lawsuit against the app, claiming that it had caused million in damages, so they just decided to kill the app

here is the official article about the situation

however, the app was open source, so there are multiple forks that seem to work, i'm personally trying out tachiyomiSY, and so far, it seems to work great, it has some extra features you have to get used to but it seems to work. Just create a backup of your files from your main tachiyomi app, download this one, and just load the backup

Other alternatives i've seen are TachiyomiAZ and Yokai, however, they have different UI's than tachiyomi, and I like that UI, so i'm using TachiyomiSY

Seems to be working fine for me, though I'll be sure to check those alternatives out in case something does happen.

Currently developement has been stopped, and it will probably disallow download to some of the biggest sites like mangadex soon

I've settled TachiyomiSY long time ago. But uhhh

I'm sad to announce that, with unanimous support from the fellow core contributors and support staff, the core Tachiyomi project will no longer be under active development due to recent events involving Kakao Entertainment Corp's threats to both myself and others that have been involved with the project.

Now all the forks are on their on. The only thing we can hope is that the app will continue to function in the forseeable future since there's no guarantee anyone will maintain the extensions.

as far as I know tachiyomi was also going to disable functions such as downloading because of those legal reasons, at least with the forks, that wont happen, + a lot of them had also gone and did their own thing already

tbh it's better than reading in a web browser or spending 400€ to read them physically

I really want to buy physical manga though. I still have the first volume of AOT from when I was 10 years old, that's the only physical-copy manga I have at the moment.

I love physical, but it's way too fucking expensive.

My myanimelist profile lists that I have read 1527 volumes, the average price per volume here in spain is ~10€, (let's assume that I can buy them all phisically and I don't have to pay for shipping costs)

that's around 15270€, not only that, but I would need a way to fit 1527 books in my house. In addition, manga are not translated in either spanish or english

As much as I would love it to read all on physical it's really not possible
Ymir
Yeah I don't know how I feel about pricing. On one hand ~$15-$20 a volume is a steal considering all the art and enjoyment you get out of it, and it's priced lower than regular books. However, in terms of actual reading content, books tend to take longer to read, fitting in more plot.

Libraries here almost always have a large section dedicated to just manga, so if it's a popular series I could always borrow it from the library.
