Grinding is usually the most boring part of a video-game, but I feel like grinding for something gives you a sense of accomplishment or satisfaction.
As long as the rewards are neat and incentivise you to keep playing, I think grind intensive games are a great thing.

With that in mind, I can't tell if 6 hours of killing goblins & chickens was worth it for a sword that makes little to no difference.

The feels are different from each games tbh. But most of them are pretty boring. I think the most fun one I have played was ULTRAKILL cyber grind just because each mechanics are really fun by itself

The only game where grinding is the fun part is The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. I love spending 40 minutes trying to break my run so I can flex my power on the Isaac community LOL

Grinding in of itself isn't a bad thing nor a fun thing. The problem with grinding in general is that a majority of games will make it with little to no tact and have you just mindlessly grind with no incentive to change that approach. You have some games such as Runescape, binding of Isaac, and Mabinogi for example who will change it up through different approaches that incentivize and reward it.

grinding can help as a little moment of relaxation in a game, just turning your brain off, doing whatever, and watching a movie or something in the other monitor, or you have the game in the second monitor and the movie on the first, you decide.

It just depends on what context the grinding exists, getting to the final boss of an rpg, and seeing you have to farm mobs for 2 hours before having a chance to win, that sucks, playing runescape, it's a relaxing game

i spent like 15 hours grinding for an armour set on monster hunter with some people i met once
literally some of the most fun ive had in my life lul

Grinding is usually boring and a very bad way to artificially increase a game's lifespan (or force players to pay)
It can be cool when the grinding itself is fun and has a significant reward, like in PSO2 (not the new one) it's basically the whole point of the game, beat stuff up and eventually you'll get better equipment to beat more stuff up

Grinding is also a waste of time ngl

if the only content in the game worth doing is grinding mindlessly then its most likely boring as shit

if its just an alternative option compared to other stuff you can do in the game thats more active id much rather play that

also another thing to add on top of this is meaningless grind AKA gear that you grinded out hundreds if not thousands of hours for going to waste because all of the new stuff is better, WoW is the prime example of this because we all know every 2 years everything we have done will go to waste

runescape is the one big mmo that doesnt do this, the best in slot gear for osrs back then had 128+ strength bonus (switched fury for strength amulet) and now we have 174+ strength bonus (switched scythe for osmumten's fang and avernic defender) but this was over the course of 10 years to take into consideration, especially comparing it to WoW however if you brought vanilla gear into WoD you would be laughed at heavily if you even attempted to bring that to dungeons at max level compared to doing god wars dungeon in osrs where that gear is perfectly reasonable (switch rune boots for dragon however and bring a bandos god sword)

Grinding feels rewarding at least somewhat, in RuneScape. It's pretty much the only MMORPG I've enjoyed playing, it's just so relaxing to play, and you can do just about anything in that game. Horizontal Progression goes crazy and I'm all for it, I'm considering membership already.

There is a lot of content even in free to play mode, so I get you.

I started with Adventure Paths (still going through it).
Once I did a few Adventure Paths, I started doing quests like Cook's Assistant and Demon Slayer. Currently on 9 quest points, hoping to get at least one more to lift trade restrictions from my account (so I can sell some fishies :))

A word of advice I've been sticking with is to get familiar with the game and find what I enjoy, and to never accept donations (to a reasonable extent) from other players. I play on world 301, but I've never spoken to anyone.

if you get donations just sell it all on the grand exchange and convert it to platinum tokens by clicking on your gp then clicking on the bank that way you can easily separate it from your real cash stack so you can save up donations to buy more bonds for more free membership

Grinding can be very boring sometimes, but not always. I used to be a big grinder back then but now i gave up on it because i realized that the game is just suposed to be fun. I even grinded without wanting to grind at that point. Just because i got bullied for being a ''total noob''. Well i wasn't a noob, i was actually pretty good but the others just looked at my items, points, coins and so on..instead of looking at my skills and talents. I got kinda hurt and then i got into grinding and it ruined my whole game expirience. I grinded 4-7 hours a day and with that i'm just trying to say to be careful while grinding in this cruel world :-)

THANK GOD I QUITTED THAT GAME AND HERE I AM, YOUR FUTURE OSU CHAMPION!! jk jk jk

Dang, I started Runescape only recently and it's easily one of the best, if not the best game I ever played. I'm not that good at skill based games and I realised that now, so I've been straying to playing the more laid back, calm games, and I've been having fun.

You still play Runescape (OSRS?)?
