Hey I just installed Mac OS Big Sur and now the Mac OS agent application instantly crashes as soon I try to open it and I tried reinstalling it and i'm not really sure what's the problem so any help would be appreciated.

Please move osu!macOS Agent to the Desktop. Then open Terminal and type this command and press enter:

~/Desktop/osu\!macOS\ Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/osu\!macOS\ Agent
and then paste the command output here (in a spoiler box please).

I got this:
zsh: killed ~/Desktop/osu!macOS\ Agent.app/Contents/MacOS/osu!macOS\ Agent

I've rebuilt osu!macOS Agent with macOS 11 instead of macOS latest (which is pinned on Catalina for the moment). Please try downloading the agent again and see if that fixes the issue.

Thank you so much!!! It works perfectly.

first of all, thank you for the detailed response, seconds of all i dont know if i should quote the reply or not considering its so long lol, but back to the point, ive tried playing osu Rosetta this morning after countlesly granting permissions to a bunch of apps as i just recently isntalled catalina, the game Somehow for some reason now runs like non of the above ever happened, as with the polling rate, 500HZ seems to run just fine at 1440x810 resolution both in game and in my overall resolution, i can feel a delay but osu itself dosent seem to detect it so ill try and test wether its the rosseta`s wrapper fault or if its some exterior problem, as to my specs here:

Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 5000 (integrated)
RAM: 4GB 1600MHz DDR3
Proccesor: 1.3GHz Intel Core i5 (2 cores)
MAC OS: 10.15.7

thats all in the "About My Mac" section, ill try to update in the "Intel Wrapper" do take in mind that this text was written as i discovered this miraculous perfomance,so uhh yeah this might change pretty drastically, got to add that i also tested this with CSGO, its runs horrible at times but the perfomance is exactly the same as previous versions, nothing changed at all, Polling rate included and to answer the "Katana ZERO" question yes i did run it natively.

Also ill try to run a test in the 4 different polling rates as soon as i manage to stabilize Osu´s perfomance

small update: nvm what i just previously wrote, the game in rossetas wineskin runs well enough altough the frames go from 200 to 90 from time to time, MS are fine until a few seconds into the song it starts to go from 5.2ms to 8-10ms

intel Wineskin update: its pretty odd tbh but the game runs fine mouse movement and all up until a few seconds of the app being opened, for the first 4 seconds its the same fluid movement but up until 7-10 seconds it starts getting 14ms, altough the fps drops seem to have fixed themselves, whats even MORE odd is how the MS seem to stabilize to 5MS when i change the polling rate mid game, but after 2 seconds it jumps to 15ms automatically with no other number in between ever appearing as if the game just realized or something, also skins just make the MS even worse as well as the FPS too

Although it's slightly weird (but somewhat understandable) that permissions settings would affect your game performance, it at least confirms my theory there's no system-level regression.

I think from memory the Rosetta wrapper uses a newer engine than the Intel version. It sounds like a performance issue, especially considering the high CPU usage of polling rates combined with your specs. I assume 1000Hz would still be too high for you then? I would check to see your performance as mentioned above, and if its capping out then that would be a performance limitation of your computer. I doubt it would be a WINE issue if you're playing decently past 125Hz.

I might make an osu!mac (https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io) entry about this, but it does seem something hard to diagnose so I'm happy you figured out a way to play!
SPM37
Dont get me wrong the game is very annoying to use even at 125hz so i doubt i will be playing osu for a while, however considering that this all started since i installed macOS Mojave`s 10.14.6 security update wich has shown to make games run horribly, then id say ill have to format the Mac and if i happen to see a perfomance boost in between MacOS mojave 10.14.0 - 10.14.5 then ill come back and report on that as well, polling rate seems fine from 500Hz to 125HZ to clarify, before i updated to the security update it was smoothly running at 120FPS and 5.3MS occasionally spiking at 6.0ms but nothing major, its seems weird to me that this specific security update is so detrimental for games so for now if anybody reading this is considering doing that small security update id say it would be better to either leave it like it is or just update to Catalina straigth away, also thank you for the responses. Also my Mac is from 2013, so maybe catalina has some problems with that altough i wouldnt be able to tell, forgot to add but Turning on Raw Input seems to make both input lag and Fps lag more notorious

So you're saying osu! game performance died (even @ 125Hz) when you updated to 10.14.6? But previous versions of Mojave and also Catalina have better game performance?

I don't think it is necessary to format your Mac. I doubt that a minor system update would affect WINE to that extent. Before you do that, try running your computer in Safe Mode then run osu!. If the game still runs poorly there, then I guess you can reformat if you are unable to determine any other cause, but I'm skeptical that the cause of this was the security update, although maybe during an update process a setting got toggled, like your permissions for example (which improved your performance from what I can see) - but again, there is only one way to find out if this is something you'd like to try.

You should keep in mind your Mac is relatively old. I'm surprised you managed to get 120 fps and 5.3ms. I'm on a 2016 MBP and I get 25ms minimum where I have cappped the framerate at 60fps.

I'm interested in hearing back from your findings! :) if the security update does in fact affect game performance, I'll pull out an old Mac and check it out for myself. Unfortunately I can't reproduce either the Mojave performance impact or the mouse polling rate for myself now.

Can someone make a version for Mac os Big sur? still waiting for it.

i have replicated this issue 2 times this one included, i remember formating my mac back to mountain lion before because of this, i even remember slowly updating my way from Mojave 10.14.1 to 10.14.15 since i was curious wich update ruined the games perfomance, eventually i stoped at 10.14.5 as time passed i guess i forgot about it and since i already started to download the update i had no option but to download it mostly because it was making up space in my hard drive, and sure enough the issue happened again, by this im pretty sure it does affect something since i was playing fine before updating, i can back this up by the fact that the update only took about 15-30 mins and after the restart the issue started happening and it seems odd that my pc just started to malfunction in a 15-30 min timespan, aditionally other games started to malfunction as well with the exception of CSGO wich i tested after updating to catalina, altough if this issue only affects wine then i would have to test it with different games, GTA San andreas comes to mind since i do remember it being laggy at some point altough i dont remember the update in wich this happened so i cant really back this up,

ive done every trick in the book to run osu at its best perfomance but i didnt get any satisfying results
also the game itself runs somewhat laggy by default so to run it at a better perfomance i usually just go to osu! files and go to osu."yourMacOsUsername".cfg and look for "MyPCSucks = 0" then change it to 1, in almost every wrapper of osu of this projects life span i have tried it seems to do the job just fine, only with this issue has this not worked, ive also tried and incredibly low end skin but still getting lag and input lag spikes and bad input lag overall as well

well is gonna be a pain re downloading everything in my pc thats for sure,

also TETR.io`s desktop app seems to work fine as well, i added this since the game seems to have similar hardware requirements to osu but aside from that nothing really important

So you're saying the update both impacted osu! as well as other games and system behaviour, except for CS:GO?

This doesn't seem like something we can fix on our end. If there's multiple applications and system functionality being impacted by this system upgrade, you should either update to the latest version or revert back to an older version.

If you think this is an issue with the Wineskin however (as in, everything else works normally except for the wrapper) - then please let us know. As you mentioned it worked before, but if other (native) games aren't working as well, it's not a Wine issue. Feel free to let us know any problems, but it seems like unfortunately there's a problem with your computer, so we can't do much from our end except for advice on how to try and go about diagnosing it, which of course we're happy to do

What tablet are you using, and have you installed tablet drivers on Mac? I'm not sure about tablets since I don't own one myself.

You should install try the most recent version of the Wineskin first (aka Rosetta Wineskin). If that doesn't work, then try the Intel Wineskin. If you believe that a legacy download will help fix your problem, you can use the links under Outdated Downloads in the top post. Please let us know if there is something working in older version, which isn't working in newer versions.

All download links are available in the original post.

This report looks fine to me and if you try opening osu! again it should work. If it still doesn't work, please try this command.

sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine "~/path/to/my/osu\!.app"

where ~/path/to/my/osu\!.app is the local filepath to your osu! app. Please keep the quotation marks and backslash in the command.

Your macOS Python installation has been altered/corrupted. If it still doesn't work, for a workaround, right click osu! and then select Show Package Contents and copy all of the files inside into a new folder named "osu!", and then rename the folder to "osu!.app". If it still doesn't work then perhaps you need to relaunch osu! a few times.

Not sure what new file you're talking about?

Settings icons don't work, that's correct. If they're important to you, you can enable them using the steps in the original thread, but this will break CJK icons in the process.

Hello, I seem to be facing the [SilentCrash](https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/advanced/silentcrash.html) bug. TLDR, I open the osu in any method, nothing shows up (no wine no terminal nothing, no wine processes in activity monitor). I used osu debug agent for troubleshoot-repair, nothing is wrong.

Reinstalling solved the problem tho, which unfortunately I did before reading your docs. I will help debug it if the problem appears again (which it will from my experience).

Did reinstalling (dotnet or wrapper?) fix your issue? I believe it's a regression with the osu! executable which was subsequently fixed/reversed, but that's my guess without access to source nor a working reproduction of the issue.

Also 500th post woo! 🎉

Could you try running a Test Run while recreating the steps that you take, including when the beatmap background shows up as black.

Test Run steps
Step 3: Generating a Test Run through Wineskin
  1. Locate your osu! installation.
  2. Right click on it, then select Show Package Contents.
  3. Open Wineskin.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Click Test Run. If osu! starts successfully (even with glitches), you can then close the program down. Once the program has either closed or crashed, a dialog will pop up asking you whether you want to view Test Run Logs. Click Yes.
  6. Copy the results of your Test Run logs to a pastebin such as paste.ubuntu.com set to never expire. Then attach the link in a reply to this thread, along with the report from osu!macOS Agent in Step 1.

Hi, I downloaded osu for Catalina along with osu!macOS Agent. Using the troubleshoot, scan, and repair. It worked wonderfully the first time I launched it, updating itself then jumping into osu!. But when I came back to it later in the day, I can't get it to open via the app icon, or the osu!macOS Agent route. I had to delete osu!, redownload, and go through the troubleshooting steps. Then it launched normally once again, updating itself aswell. Is it normal for this issue to happen or not and how do I fix this? As that I'm worried it might happen again and I have to go through the steps every time to play.

Firstly, I think you should try out the Rosetta Wineskin since it's much newer. Secondly, could you try updating through osu!macOS Agent (Other > Update). Thank you for making this. I have been enjoying myself so far. However, is there a way to fix the constant freezing(it's gotten worse over time)? While playing beatmaps, the red bar at the bottom right of the screen frequently spikes up causing me to freeze up, lag, and miss the circles.

Popups might take a small while after osu! seems to have closed. If they don't appear, kill the osu!, wine-preloader and wineserver processes via Activity Monitor or Force Quit. Don't kill the Wineskin process however.

There's more performance overhead when playing on Mac due to WINE. Assuming that you have reasonable system specs / reasonable amount of HDD space left (for swap), etc. you should try tuning osu! within the in-game performance settings. Performance seems to vary considerably between users so it's hard to narrow it down without knowing your system.

If you believe performance is an issue with the wrapper, could you try downloading a clean wrapper and seeing whether low performance occurs as well on the clean wrapper? If so, then we might need to do more investigation.

You also made a post 4 months ago with a similar issue - community/forums/posts/8169091 - did you change anything between then and now which would have fixed it?

I'm using Catalina 10.15.7, Macbook air 2017

Thank you

Firstly, I think you should try out the Rosetta Wineskin since it's much newer. Secondly, could you try updating through osu!macOS Agent (Other > Update). If that fails, could you make a Test Run for when the application doesn't open, and link the contents here (you can use a pastebin like paste.gg)

Test Run steps
Click Yes.
  6. Copy the results of your Test Run logs to a pastebin such as paste.gg set to never expire. Then attach the link in a reply to this thread, along with the report from osu!macOS Agent in Step 1.

Thanks.

Could you try the following steps:

- while running osu!, close all other applications (including Discord)
- run osu! through cmd (follow the steps under Running through Command Prompt - https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/issues/dotnet.html#running-through-command-prompt) and log the output (if any) in a pastebin
- while osu! is running, change affinity to NOT use core #0 (see steps below) (community/forums/posts/8162613)
- update dotnet (follow the steps under Updating dotnet - https://osu-mac.readthedocs.io/en/latest/issues/dotnet.html#updating-dotnet

Change affinity
1. Right click osu! > Show Package Contents
2. Click Wineskin > Advanced > Tools > Task Manager (taskmgr)
3. Find osu!.exe in the list that appears, then set priority and affinity as desired - see https://superuser.com/a/181947 for info on what this actually means

The instructions should be quite straightforward :D You can repair through osu!macOS Agent (Troubleshoot > Scan > Repair) or through the following command:

sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine "~/path/to/my/osu\!.app"

where ~/path/to/my/osu\!.app is the local filepath to your osu! installation (keep the quotes in the command).

The files are very different as to the Youtube tutorial that was recommended to me on the step by step way to get osu to Mac- https://youtu.be/b9RK1z8jXcM

When I was trying to troubleshoot the styles from my guessing because the video is not the same as to what is happening to what I was experiencing, I got this error that says "osu1macOS agent cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware. move to trash" (idk how to put screenshot lol)

Huge thanks to aidswidjaja for reaching out to them on Twitter. For those wondering, the reason it was taken down is because the latest Intel Wineskin was incorrectly detected as a virus (it does not contain viruses). Hopefully we won't have any more issues in the future. :)

Settings icons don't work, that's correct. If they're important to you, you can enable them using the steps in the original thread, but this will break CJK icons in the process.
Hey! I figured out how to install Osu!, now my only problem is: When I update Osu!, it frequently hangs and sometimes the beatmap's background is entirely black [https://imgur.com/OFnU37X] Any Idea why this is happening?

Could you try running a Test Run while recreating the steps that you take, including when the beatmap background shows up as black.

Well my pc is a potato but I can run Osu! on 300+ stable, my Processor is 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5, I have 4 GB of RAM (I want to add more RAM but I don't have time because of classes and I don't know how to do it.), my GPU is AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB, and I run macOS High Sierra. I'll try running the Test Run and I hope it gets fixed.

P.S. I don't have any problems running Osu! before the update, after the update it's just plain laggy and sometimes freezes I swear it's not because of my potato PC.

If you think it's an osu! version update, could you try:

steps
  1. Making a duplicate of your osu wrapper (backups are important since the version you're about to test out doesn't support score submission)
  2. Downloading b20210520.2 from https://osekai.net/snapshots/?version=80
  3. On your duplicated copy, right click > Show Package Contents > drive_c > osu!
  4. Replace osu!.exe with the new version from osekai
  5. Close Finder, then start the wrapper
  6. When the update dialog appears, quickly close it to prevent it from updating (or if you're slow, disable your internet connection)
  7. See whether osu! runs better or not, and run a Test Run

Usually I'm sorta sceptical whenever an issue is attributed to any form of update (OS, executable, etc.), since those regressions are usually quite rare, and usually we would know about any breaking changes (especially OS level ones). But I don't think you're the first user to report an issue with osu! bludging recently on updates, and I haven't had anyone to check whether the issue is in fact isolated to the osu! executable.

In any case, the onus is on us to ensure that our wrapper works with executables, even if they introduce breaking changes, but first I'd like to see if this is in fact caused by a recent osu! update. I doubt it is though.

The Test Run on both your standard install and the older install will also be very useful :)

edit: I know I can reinstall Osu! again and get the older version but I find it quite troublesome and kind of a hassle, if I get more time this week I'll definitely try to reinstall Osu!

I only suggested running the older version since I wanted to isolate it to whether it was actually an osu! update that caused it, or if it were something else.

The logging in your Test Run is a lot more than I'd expect from a working install. Specifically, that RtlEncryptMemory/RtlDecryptMemory loop that seems to be plaguing all these performance issues, which I've definitely seen around before. (unrelated). Which wrapper are you using again?

I'll try and take a closer look at the logs either tonight or tomorrow (by editing this post), your patience is very much appreciated :)
