My common sense works just fine. Since when is the ITT thread not a general thread for everything? And since when has a certain topic been banned from ITT because there is another thread for it? I could have applied this argument to everything else and complained because someone mentioned something to do with food, because there is a food thread. The reality is, Tuuba doesn't have a big enough userbase so segregating topics doesn't work well and it doesn't promote good discussion. I'm COMPLETELY on IppE's side if Bird posted some shit that could start a discussion about politics. So basically something serious.
I'm COMPLETELY on Bird's side if Bird only posted a joke, because a joke that is political in nature is still just a joke and thus has no reason to be posted in its appropriate thread.
It all boils down to what the shit he posted to begin with. I agree that cooking stuff goes into the cooking thread and politics go into the place with politics, but ONLY if it's worth the time and dedication to be there. If I make a joke about Mahogany being homo, I should not need to make a fucking separate LGBT thread to say "Yo Maho mate, yer gay". It would be downright silly...
However, Bird would definitely have no defense against the decision for it to be deleted if he posted something along the lines of "Trump is gay and all his supporters should die because he wants to build a wall". That's not something lighthearted and definitely doesn't belong in ITT.

My interpretation of forum rules is this: provided you aren't literally spamming the forum and making it physically difficult for other people to view posts, or on a focused campaign to harass people, then you can post whatever you want; and people are free to be offended or not, and people are free to scroll past content that they don't want to see. If there were to be some major policy or rule change, I assumed that it could be decided in a democratic fashion with votes. And if people decided with a democratic vote that they wanted a safe space rather than a forum of free discussion, then I'd still leave, but at least I'd know that it was because the people there didn't share my ideals and values, rather than an arbitrary decision by IppE which is what happened.

I disagree that ITT is not for serious discussions. We're having one right now, and we've had them in the past. And it seems very stupid to split up a forum that might get 12 posts a day into a dozen different threads. Anyway like I said, if it actually was about it "being in the wrong place", then it would have applied to a lot of things and not just politics. And if it were about me posting in the wrong place, then we could have had some sort of civilised discussion and vote about what exactly what was appropriate in the ITT thread. But that didn't happen.

Well it's not like it's my intention to offend anyone; I'm not trying to personally insult anyone. It's just provocative humour. You have to realise that offense isn't given, it's taken. I don't think I over dramaticised anything, I'd prefer to try and change things before I leave. But once my posts get deleted, that's the point I step out. As the study correctly points out, there are other driving factors such as age and education. Did they ever mention whether or not they accounted for that when they chose their samples? Can a questionnaire consisting of only 13 questions (lol again) really be considered to be an accurate way to measure what they are trying to measure? Are the questions biased?
