An exhaustive list of maps that deserve "loved"-status‬ · forum‬

Since the recent Update, there is a new status-category for beatmaps.

This list is meant to aid the officials in picking out maps that would make a good addition to the loved-category. I don't have insight into the process or any sort of influence beyond listing maps here, and hoping that officials take these suggestions into account.

I'll try to update the list when "loved"-status was achieved. If you have more maps that should be added, feel free to post them in this thread or to shoot me a PM.
A list of maps that have already been added can be seen here.

Also note that some of these maps might still get pushed for rank by the mappers (like Immortal Flame, by Fort), and adding them to the list might prove wrong, as they'd get updated quite frequently just to fall out of the loved-status again.

Lastly, I've sorted everything after number of times the maps have been favourited, as a crude estimate for how popular the maps are within the community. It is only natural that harder maps tend to have fewer favourites, as they are only accessible to a much smaller group (top-players). It is also natural that maps that have just been uploaded will probably have fewer favourites than a map that has been around for 2 years. None of this determines the quality of any map. It is only a way to figure out which maps were well received.

yeah as I said, some of these maps might still get pushed for rank. I am just listing the most popular maps. It would be advised for the team to double-check each map before adding them, to avoid putting the maps in the loved-category against the mappers wishes.

I'll add a few notable/special maps later on too (spro-maps etc.)

Zetsubou plantation is going for ranked and I am one of those involved in doing so. You can remove it from there.
Regarding Heanday's mapset: half of the GDs there are now moved over my mapset, so again, you should remove that one too imo.

For the record, auto-fail at the end of Endless Tewi-ma Park isn't just caused by the spinners, the massive sliders section has its impact as well. From what I have tested, what breaks everything is putting circles during a long slider or spinner, so making this map passable would require a major reworking of the last section.

Actually, already the single long slider at 00:11:766 (1) - is enough to break the map.

This one seems like it's still getting updated. The mapper might be going for rank? I try not to put maps on the list that were updated very recently, although some probably slipped through anyways.

It's beyond any doubt that this map is broken. I think these scores aren't submitted - as far as I understand, and I might be very wrong about this, is that score submition is triggered client-side, so that, since on player's client the map is failed, the score isn't ever submitted. But possibly now the staff will take their time to figure out how to fix this bug. This would also fix the original Graces of Heaven diff.

Just to clarify a few things about Loved status:

To qualify for Loved, maps must still be well-timed and at least reasonably playable. A good example of something that isn't Loved material is the Mark Mulholland titanic recorder map, since most of it is deliberately out of time and generally makes you want to rip your hands off.
Loved maps can also not autofail. 2B maps are notorious for this due to a long-standing client bug, so they're unfortunately out of the question until the bug is fixed. Same deal with stuff like the Graces of Heaven non-debug difficulty.
You can suggest individual difficulties within a set.

Do remember that we'll be opening up community voting for the next round of Loved maps very soon, and lots of the maps mentioned in this thread are very likely to appear in it.

To qualify for Loved, maps must still be well-timed and at least reasonably playable. A good example of something that isn't Loved material is the Mark Mulholland titanic recorder map, since most of it is deliberately out of time and generally makes you want to rip your hands off.
Loved maps can also not autofail. 2B maps are notorious for this due to a long-standing client bug, so they're unfortunately out of the question until the bug is fixed. Same deal with stuff like the Graces of Heaven non-debug difficulty.
You can suggest individual difficulties within a set.
Do remember that we'll be opening up community voting for the next round of Loved maps very soon, and lots of the maps mentioned in this thread are very likely to appear in it.

I'm removing tewi and mulholland. Good that there is an option to only love an individual difficulty, so graces of heaven can stay up!

I hope the list is at least somewhat useful to the staff. I'll edit in some more things today, particularly hard maps where people might be interested to see how the best of the best do on them.

V^3 has already been passed nomod.

I assume he meant maps like centipede, that can be passed by auto but are obviously impossible to beat, even with HT. Those are out.

Anyways, HUGE update of the list. I added about 100 maps, particularly hard ones, arles, other gamemodes, lots of stuff that has been suggested in the thread, mazzerin, Rabbit's Jumping and it goes on.

The list should be pretty good now, although I'm probably still missing a shitload of hard maps around 100 favourites. If you got more, PM me!

Gist of list is: quality maps that never made it to rank for one reason or another. Some of the maps under hard don't have many favs simply because of the raw skill required to play those maps.
Another reason for low favourites one some is simply empty tags, making actually finding the songs hard.

there are plenty of gimmick maps that could never be ranked and this is their time to shine, but what most people seem to want is arles/raikozen maps

That being said, BD, many of the maps that got loved-status aren't really too gimmicky.
I'd have definitely expected to see tewi 2B and Graces of Heaven on the first batch, given how these are definitely unique and uh... loved?!

Anyway, I just hope that we won't see a new owntrolf-meme with this one...

I think Eph explained that 2b maps aren't ready yet due to the client fucking up when they're played (not being able to finish the map), which is why the first batch mostly had hard maps, but they will be added in the near future

I have to agree with BD: Gimmicky maps are quickly forgotten after they get some spotlight and this status is basically their only way to shine - contrary to hard maps who are still potentially rankable.

@Endaris: Graces of Heaven has 2B parts as well, so I don't think it should be expected as soon as proper 2B maps, sadly.

I was thinking that this one is still going for rank, but seeing that it doesn't even have a complete spread I'll add it to the list.

I've just added most favourited stuff so far, and there weren't many easy maps among those. I'll try to look out for some easier ones.
The reason why I added so many hard maps was because this seemed to be a focal point of the staff (see: zigzag hacker, the limit does not exist, kitsune, try unite, big money ...)

People are interested in seeing how pros do on really hard maps, so thats why I expanded the list in that direction, even though these hard maps don't necessarily have many favourites. If you look on reddit, you can see many people suggesting very hard maps too, so there is definitely a lot of interest.

I'll try to update the list today, adding maybe another 50 maps or so! There is just so much quality out there that deserves more recognition. Thanks to everyone for posting in this thread so far, I greatly appreciate it.

ok I think I added another solid 100 maps (this is really taking some time). I'll be gone over the weekend, so I'll edit the list the next time when I come back. I also went back in the thread and added lots of the maps I didn't add before.

I didn't add maps that were below 30 favourites unless they were over 7*. It would have been too much, and besides I don't think that those maps would get voted for a lot because people don't tend to know them. They'll find their way into the system when ways other than votes will be open to the public, I'm sure.

I guess this is also a pretty nice list to draw from if you want to discover new and good unranked maps to play. If someone wants to give it a reddit-post, go ahead and put it on there! I'm sure many people that don't necessarily look at the forums would be interested in a list like that.

Edit: While I provided the list for Taiko maps, it is the fruit of the joint effort between several members of the Taiko community. Also, some of the maps that were listed in the other modes spoilerbox was added as well.

mostly targeted at abraker but i really hope we're not considering packs for inclusion into this; that is somewhat gaming the system imo, which the community is lucky to have.

also, people suggesting mania stuff need to realize that 4K is not the only game mode out there.

i might add that a lot of the maps on your list are kinda dull/don't really deserve that spotlight.

It's only natural to want to have a scoreboard for the maps you play, but yea I know what you mean, and will be fine with them not getting loved. We might as well make a pack with a thousand maps if allowed.

A player who plays mostly 4k wouldn't know many 7k maps to suggest. If more players play 4k than 7k, that's unavoidable. On the flip side, anyone can suggest any amount of maps, so it all comes down to how many good 4 key maps vs n key maps you know are out there.

That will show in the votes. I think it's better to just list the maps you like to play and have the community filter out what they don't like by voting. Some of the maps I listed I know others would hate, but listing them is giving a chance to those maps and some hope to the suggester.

Maybe this is too obvious of a thing to consider, but nonetheless it goes without saying to get the mappers' permissions before granting it the chance at "loved" status. But anyways, it may be a good idea to either have a list of well-defined rules about what type of maps are allowed or what type of maps are excluded, in the main post. Or at least include what rules we know of so far.
