Both Japan and South Korea's rosters seem really lackluster. I wonder if their players simply didn't want to play in the OWC or were they denied participation due to some violation during the last year.
Another question mark is wobeinimacao for China. China's team looks scary even without him, but with him they would have been absolute beasts.
Latvia's team actually looks very good. They could get far in this tournament.

Man, Japan's top players must be busy this year. We have a near complete new set of players. Mecurius and Poruteri are back. I still have hope for Japan to do pretty well this year....

Maybe this has already been addressed since I don't follow the spectator client at all, but it would be nice if we could get rid of those ugly yellow names that covers up parts of the gameplay, and integrate player names into the actual design itself. Those names really feel out of place in an otherwise pretty nice looking design. Misses can be indicated by a red box or something around the player's square or something.

the bottom right corner of each screen is a pretty nice place to put it i think, just decrease the font size. Or even just add a name tab below their screen

I've seen a lot of complaints about Finals in Loser Bracket, Match for the Finals coming from Loser's Bracket and the actual Finals sharing the same map-pool last year as Japan ended up playing the Final Map Pool for a whopping 5 sets: 1 vs USA, 1 vs South Korea, 1 vs Germany and 2 vs Poland.
While it seems to be kind of stupid to me to make a new map pool exclusively for the final Final it's the only way to fit the schedule(PQ on a separate weekend while loser's bracket finals+"third-place" finals are on the same). Anyway I think variation would be greatly appreciated.
Another option would be tackling the schedule as in moving the AE to the same weekend as PQ but having AE played on Sa and PQ on Su. That way an additional mappool would be used for 2-3 sets and the winner of AE would have enough time to mentally prepare for PQ.
Just some thoughts as the 5 sets of the final pool by Japan were experienced as a bit lame.

The finals mappool became a bit too repetitive when the same songs were played constantly. For the grand final, a new mappool should be made.

Several observations I'd like to make:
1. The Netherlands has as close to an optimal roster as they can get. We can expect a strong performance from them.
2. Argentina's team is (in my opinion) going to be hurt by the absence of players such as Glazbom and Salvage.
3. Taiwan's team should, under no circumstances, be scoffed at. Some people said they won't be able to compete with Poland and the US in this OWC... I'm gonna call bullshit on that one! They have their Holy Trinity (Rucker, SnowWhite and Small K) and their other players are extremely experienced as well.
There are 8 teams, whose rosters have not been revealed yet, but Austria's team should also be really strong (provided we don't see any surprise absence from it).
I still don't think this tournament will be as good as OWC 2013 (of which I have very fond memories), but I am hoping for some tough competition and great matches.

At the very bare minimum, the US has the 4th best roster so far. To the ones that said that Korea's roster is weak have no knowledge at all. Their roster is scary af which was already proven in other tournaments like All star, ocwt, ohc and many more. Cinia, Chiyo, Reimu, Neta, Meltina they are all consistent af especially Neta, Chiyo and Cinia seems to be underrated by many players since they didnt see their tournament performance yet and are just judging by their ranks. Im pretty sure that South Korea will make it very far, they could even win the whole thing.
The underdogs of the tournament will be Austria. Nobody will expect much of them, but they could even crush the high/top seeded teams
Really looking forward to OWC so many strong teams, I wonder how they will do the seeds since imo USA, Germany, South Korea, China, Poland, Taiwan should all be Top seeded

A TIER (runner-ups for the championship): China, Netherlands, Taiwan, (Austria?)
B TIER (possible surprises): Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Norway, Japan, Russia, Sweden, Hong Kong, United Kingdom
C TIER (can go far if they overperform): Argentina, Finland, Lithuania, Thailand, Ukraine, Malaysia, (Italy?), (Mexico?)
D TIER (needs to overperform AND other teams to underperform): Greece, Latvia, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, (Philippines?)

Thats quite a bold statement. I would claim that thier roster this year is at at least as strong as last year. Germany's roster last year was pretty much very strong in NoMod/DT , but kinda weak what it came to HR/HD. The roster this year looks a lot more balanced and I somehow have a feeling that they are even stronger this year, but its all up to the performance/consistency of the new players

Yes but we've seen from last year that players new to OWC can do very well Tom94 blowing my mind last year so while it is hard to give an exact guess they're not to be underestimated especially in context of Score v2.

Fortunately, judging by the makeup of their teams, it looks like most of the top South Korea and Japan players have this "been there, done that" attitude and are allowing some other top players a chance to play. We'll see if that comes back to haunt them.

I think players in this world cup are more skilled than ever, and can only continue improve to make future world cups even more exciting. It seems every team that is competing now all have really strong players who have the potential to perform really well in the tournament - and maybe force some upsets!
As for the viewers, I feel like this is a great tourney to watch, for experienced players, but also those who are newer or are just watching the twitch stream for the first time (wow they click so fast!). I feel like the new score system does promote a much more exciting viewing experience, and the presence of commentators can only add to the hype (https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/commen ... ng_system/)
Even though there have been problems in previous world cups I feel like this one has been mostly hassle-free (at least to this point in time), and it's definitely come a long way with increased publicity, player skill and prize pool. Would like to commend tournament management for their efforts in improving the world cup year by year (it seems we're even getting a team video on youtube this year?) and good luck to all teams!
As for the viewers, I feel like this is a great tourney to watch, for experienced players, but also those who are newer or are just watching the twitch stream for the first time (wow they click so fast!). I feel like the new score system does promote a much more exciting viewing experience, and the presence of commentators can only add to the hype (https://www.reddit.com/r/osugame/commen ... ng_system/)
Even though there have been problems in previous world cups I feel like this one has been mostly hassle-free (at least to this point in time), and it's definitely come a long way with increased publicity, player skill and prize pool. Fortunately, judging by the makeup of their teams, it looks like most of the top South Korea and Japan players have this "been there, done that" attitude and are allowing some other top players a chance to play. We'll see if that comes back to haunt them.

You didnt understand my point. What I meant was that the team is more balanced know in terms of mods. In Germany's roster last year Tom was pretty much the only one who did well on the Hidden picks.Elscar wrote:

Just to clarify, I believe you're referring to my roster ranking which averages all of the players of the team. Japan has players that rank as low as 3k, dropping the average of the Japanese teams slightly lower than Greece and Ukraine.Gigo wrote:
