"Bump" because I didn't know where to ask. I'm working on translating the wiki from English to French with a bunch of guys. I noticed that the {{OL}} template doesn't display corretly when creating a FR:[pagename] (the space where the other languages should be displayed is blank). Is there a way to correct this ?

Also, is it possible to change the page title from english to french (or another language) without it becoming "unrelated"/"unlinked" to the original english page ?
Atm, let's say I want to create a French page for General Ranking Criteria. The new page will be named FR:General Ranking Criteria, but I want it to be something else (in this case, "Critères de Ranking Généraux" in French).

Sorry if these questions has already been asked in the past, I didn't bother looking at the previous pages.

Other Languages doesn't show properly when added on a language page due to how the template looks for links. And for the link name, the details are in its documentation (Add "|fr=Critères de Ranking Généraux" on the General Ranking Criteria)

peppy said last year that he'll work on the sidebar but I haven't heard anything from that since.

I'll do a specific {{OL}}-ish list sooner or later but I lack the motivation to do so since only certain languages are begin edited/improved.

Is there a way to increase the cellpadding in the wiki? The current value seems to make the table content too close to the border.

On wikitables? Add cellspacing="0" where 0 is the padding after the opening ( {| ).

Overhauled the whole Streaming with OBS Page. I am not a native english speaker, so it would be nice if someone looks over it.
Also added some advanced things you can do while streaming, that can also be realized in the other streaming programs. Maybe new Cat for that kind of guide?

How can I add a footnote on a page? I tried with <ref>, {{ref}} and {{note}} but they don't seem to be working.

(also, is it me or the wiki is incredibly slow since yesterday?)

Don't be afraid of experimenting, there's always a way to rollback anything in 3 clicks.

osu!wiki is acting up on me so I am slacking off. Currently can't log in :cry: .

Note: Making new account directs me to osu.ppy.sh . Now I wonder how new users makes an osu!wiki account.

EDIT: Scrambling April-May 2012 in my email gives no results. So, I am likely screwed to make a secondary account since there is no password reset button. May try again later to see if my account can be electrocuted from deadlock.

i have some pages and wrote it in chinese (most of them are tutorial and they are not the translated pages), but i don't know how to name the page in english.
so...can i name the page in chinese?

You can name it in the language you want as long you add the correct prefix to the name. I think it was ZH: for the chinese articles.

P.S. O.T.N., Mephisto, Hades in Heaven, Predator, Calamity Fortune and FREEDMAN are reoccurring winners in Top 10. So, 27 unique songs with 13 duplicates.

EDIT: Waiting for #3 result. Did minor fix (Mistaken "!" for "|") and some update for showcases. Add o!m in. Nothing is changed in the spoilerbox above as I am working on o!m now. Obsolete. I am back~

I'm wanting to add in a section about good audio portals for mappers to get music from, what section would that fit in best? any ideas

It could fit as a standalone guide unless it's complimenting another guide, which in that case should be in that guide.

The only encode "guide" I can remember is the one I made for a guide but is for foobar2000 and most things there could not apply for other converters.

TL;DR No, there isn't a proper encode guide.

Probably in the Miscellaneous section. While a correct encoding is part of the Ranking Criteria, I don't think it should be in the General Mapping/Modding Info section. I could be wrong here but if it's on the wrong place, it will be eventually moved to a correct location.

[Audio Encoding]
The process of changing the bitrate of a mp3. Usable bitrates range from 128 kbps up to 192 kbps so as to ensure that audio quality is kept within the limits of the ranking criteria. In some cases, mappers own a mp3 with higher bitrates (usually 320 kbps or 256 kbps) that need to be lowered using a third-party software to fit in the allowed range for their maps to be rankable.

[Audacity]
Audacity is a open source free audio editing software. It requires the The LAME MP3 encoding library to be able to export sound files in the mp3 format. Once installed, select the options (constant bitrate or variable bitrate) and the desired bitrate when exporting an audio file in that format.

When looking for music to map for osu!, there are tons of great free use audio portals such as newgrounds, soundcloud, Ocremix, and bandcamp, that offer free music to use under creative commons.

Looks good for a basic article, way better than most stubs. Instead of keeping the article in notepad, there's the sandbox pages. Take one of the red ones or those that have a (D) on the description and work the article there. When its finished or ready, move to its correct place or throw me a PM and I'll move it.

Second, I don't know about use of these brackets instead regular ones, so better just to rephrase the sentence.

The wiki should know when it's a link and when not so wrapping them in [ ] should work correctly. If someone's paranoid still, they can wrap them in <nowiki> tags and call it a day.

EDITpt2: For XPJ38, "4899 (1036 ranked)" was copied from modranking. So I assume, "# of posts made in mapping forum (# of ranking other players' beatmaps)"

I'm confused about that article. Should be merged to the encoding guide or be a basis to an article about copyrights on beatmap songs? (This should be covered since there are cases of beatmaps taken down due to copyright)

Don't ask to, just do that. osu!wiki needs contents, and the contents need to be translated. If you feel like you have time to do that and you want to contribute to the wiki, just do it. The edit link is right there.

I've fixed a bug with the Profile template that caused the username not having its last character inside the link if it was a closing square bracket (for example, the username Popo[Mikoto] in the MWC 2014 article was displayed as Popo[Mikoto] )

On the other hand, this fix makes it that Profile now ignores all formatting tags inside the template (this is the reason I made this diff). Does it sound okay to you?

Seems logical. It's a bad idea to add the formatting inside templates like that.

I think that Agent J (as in the character) is still copyrighted to Nintendo. Probably they won't care unless their main franchises are begin used for "evil" with it.

You should raise an issue at support for that. It's probably low priority to fix that since who still uses that link? Pretty much every translated language should link to the Beatmapping article by now.

I was talking on allowing Global Moderators bypass the editing lock on the Main Page because the protection currently works on the "all-or-nothing" permissions (Everyone or only wiki mods). Is that bad now?

This is a good idea. Since we have the Bureaucrat flag, we can just give Administrator flag to all mods, so they can edit all locked pages (and ban users on the wiki)

Because how permissions are done on the wiki, it's probably a thing to do if the additional group isn't made.

It's always like that. My only workaround for that is to stop the loading after they got displayed vertically...

No is not. It stopped working since the wiki integrated with the site and ended up duplicating the html headers/footers making the javascript controlling that (and pretty much everything on the wiki that relies on jquery) fail.

I think that is redundant. {{OL}} can work fine with template pages (correct me if I'm wrong), just specify the link to the translated template and they show on it.

Edit: I found that in the french wiki thread were talking about inconsistency of language names on the wiki. Google Translate didn't told me everything but I got the gist of it. At most cases is better to go with the name that is shown in {{OL}}. Use the English name of the language on places like the language page (/wiki/Spanish, /wiki/Japanese and such) and their specific categories. You can set up a redirect if required for those pages. If you have doubts, feel free to ask here or PM me.

It doesn't work with the templates that have the "Name/XX" name structure like Stub/FR. Neil Watts' TemplateOL fixes this, but it doesn't recognize the "XX:Name" templates.
Therefore he proposed on the French thread the idea to make everything uniform by renaming either the XX:Name or Name/XX templates to keep only one name structure. Sounds good since naming is a mess here: some languages tend to mix everything up, like DE which uses "DE:Name" and "Name/DE" for its templates. Was not sure about what to do here though, so I redirected him to you.
