I'm not saying that you don't understand me. I'm saying you're all taking it too personally. I'm not attacking anyone, it just seems that everyone got offended when they're referred to as "less-than-masterfully skilled". I'm not hinting at anything either, it's a simple fact that some players are more experienced/have more skill than others. You can't deny this. To become offended, or to hide the facts, only hurts your own ego. And it's not that I don't understand what staff has said, I simply don't agree with it and stated why. Just because you feel my discussion is more or less arguing, doesn't make it so.
Well, I believe that they are not offended by the fact that some players are more skilled than the others. At least this fact does not stop players from joining twc. Just refer to the 2 previous twcs and you can notice that not only stronger teams joined twc, but also the weaker ones. If they are really offended by that, why would they bother joining twc, in which they would be defeated by stronger teams ?
As an official taiko tournament, I do agree that it has to be challenging enough for players to show their real skills, especially in later rounds where the maps will be even harder and therefore more exciting. I think this is one of the main goals that the staff are aiming at. Just look the mappool in twc1&2. You can see the maps are harder in later rounds. This is to make the competition increasing challenging so that only stronger teams can survive, thus finding the best team that deserves the champion.
But keep in mind that this is also a "world" cup. That means players from different countries with different levels of skills participate in this competition. Yes, the main goal of the competition is the same : To decide which team is the best of the best by performing better than other teams in challenging maps. But then you have to understand that a global competition should be capable of determining the best team, as well as allowing weaker teams to participate in the early stages, or even defeating slightly stronger teams if they pay enough efforts to improve their skills. This is one important element that makes a tournament interesting, because it is not only deciding who is the best overall, but also who is the best during the matches.
And when we go back to the twc case, you can see there are group stages and elimination stages. I do believe the purpose of setting up 2 stages instead of 1 is to balance the two main goals I mentioned above. Group stage allows players with different levels to participate, while elimination stage determines which team is the best. This system also allows weaker teams to participate in group stages in which the maps are easier. If they pay enough efforts, they may just defeat stronger teams and go into elimination stage. This is why a competition is exciting. However, this does not defeat the purpose of determinating the best team. Because it is actually "pleasing the stronger teams" as you said in some posts before, since only stronger teams can go through all the elimination stages and become the champion.
I know this post could be too lengthy, but I hope you understand that having easier maps at group stages is to allow different levels of players to join. As twc can still decide which team is the best through elimination stages, I am actually supportive towards this system.
