I'm pretty much finished with the skinning now. All I have to do is tweak the joint deformer on her elbow Skin Morph modifier a bit, and I'm ready to start animating. However, I'll be going on vacation tomorrow, and I won't be back until next week. I have Photoshop on my laptop, though, so expect a wallpaper or two in a few days.

This has nothing to do with the mascot project, as far as I can see. Unless you were planning on getting these dancers in-game, please start a new thread in Other Games instead of posting your discoveries here. If you're trying to rip them for use in osu!, start a new thread in General Development, although I'm pretty sure they'll look like shit on anything more high-res than a DS screen.

Edit: Done. I still need to tweak a few joints, and there's something awful going on with her shoes, but other than that, Pippi's ready for action. Here, have a stupid pose.

Wait, never mind. Either way, they're definitely not too small. They might be too short, though.

awp's right, the fingers are too short. But the head actually looks pretty good to me. The arms might be a bit off too; I'd need more poses of the current model to say for sure.

yeah, the fingers do line up rather well. Try pressing her thumb against her index finger though - it should reach the first joint, but it looks a tad short.

We'll get to the bottom of this, damn it all.

This is looking really good , Loginer. Youre doing a great job and if you ask me, the head looks fine but the actual torso should be somewhat smaller so that the arms and legs can be longer without making her look like the result of a "Bendaroo" project.

I think the problem is that it's hard to see where the wrist joint is because she's wearing gloves so please don't nag about every tiny little imperfection. D:

I suppose you cant expect PS3 graphics. I think she's ready to go, anyway. She's perfect in my book(except for the humungous platformer shoes).

Yeah, I guess. But it's just a prototype as far as we're concerned. For all we know, some poeple's computers won'tbe able to even handle an extremely low quality Pippi, especailly if they cant even play most videos without PC lag.

Look at her wrist! While the human wrist can bend back that far, it'd be pretty uncomfortable. I can only really get it that way by pushing my hand back with my other hand. That's like, a right angle, almost an acute angle.

To do a forward-facing peace sign, you'd want to have her elbow bend (elbow pointed down, rather than out), so that her wrist can be bent at a much wider obtuse angle relative to her forearm.

Yeah, but it's hard to do any changes after skinning the model (if I add or remove any vertices, I'll have to start all over again). Besides, no one said I won't be improving Pippi after the first version has been implemented. It's just that this project has been going on for about a year and a half, and I'd like to see something in-game before I stop making progress again.

Even though Echo's exaggerating a bit, you don't have to worry. Pretty much any computer from this decade will be able to render Pippi without any slowdown.

I was going to do that, but there are still some slight problems with the shoulder, and I didn't want to edit the image in Photoshop.

Yeah, I pretty much knew that was going to happen.

Anyway, the arms have proper length now (upper arm and forearm length almost equal, hand-to-hand distance equal to head-to-toe distance). I'll post a new render as soon as I've fixed the joints.

Face 1 is the same face I've been using for ages now. Face 2 is Face 1 with some of the vertices moved back to give the face a more "round" look. Choose one.

At the moment I prefer face 2 though - what little difference I can see is seen in the cheekbones; they look smoother and closer to the eyes which I think is more correct?

The only way to fix that would be to add a few extra lines, and it's a bit too late to add any geometry at this point, I'm afraid. Besides, the way it was modeled makes it hard to add any more details without adding several extra loops to the entire body, or seriously messing up the shading.
But I will replace the head and clothes in the near future, rest assured. I just happen to be at a stage where I really can't do all that much tweaking, so please save your various complaints for the next "version".

I can guarantee you the face is rounded enough. It just looks kind of flat because of the shading/lighting, which doesn't really matter since it's all going to be cel-shaded in the end (I hope).

thread is tldr since the face pics, but I'm just curious.. that dark part under the nose that everybody is complaining about. That's not just a shadow, is it? If so then its probably not as big of a deal as everybody is making it (as long as you can like.. tone down the shadow?)

I think the place I got the design for the soles of the boots was from Moom's drawing, though in that drawing it looked a lot more appealing than it turned out on my model. Also, that image is actually pretty old still as I think quite a bit of things were changed since then lol.



That's the most recent render of the work that was done on the default outfit, though it really doesn't show off much, just the pose from Saru's concept. One of these years she's going in for major facial surgery. lol

Meh, I haven't done any work in weeks, and I've been pretty busy with something else lately. Feel free to take over the project if you want to.

NCDyson's first render (using vocapippi?) is awesome. Loginers model still feels a lot better than the more recent one, though.

yeah, the colored image I was using for reference had red eyes, and I feel they seem to work a little better with the outfit. My model was really just for something to practice on, I've actually found myself with little free time as of late.

Both these models have their advantages, but neither one really gets the face right yet.

Though maybe if you're both up for it, Loginer and Dyson could work together on perfecting Pippi? Nothing against either of you if you're against it, but I think a 3D design team could be pretty awesome.

Here's my progress so far. The face currently feels like a strange mix between anime and realism, but I'm working on that. The important bit is that the face is no longer flat.

The third model (020 CT SCAN HEAD(beta)), is a 3D model of an adult male head.

Obviously, Pippi is neither male nor an adult, though, you may be able to find something of use from the model.

Just tell me what I need to fix/improve, aside from the mouth and chin. The face was modeled using anatomically correct references, so telling me to look at realistic heads and stuff isn't helping.

Edit: Wait, I just noticed something big. Fixing... Fixed the depth.

The first one is looking great. But the second rendering makes me think that not all angles would turn out so well. The nose bridge seems too prominent or too thin or something.

Though if it renders well in cel-shading at all angles the way it is now, I'd like to see more angles.

Felt like posting a screenshot this time. I've moved and scaled the eyes, shortened the chin and made the lips look more female-ish. I also made some changes to the bridge after taking the screenshot.

distance from nose to lips to chin seems short to me, idk if the chin is too short or if everything is just half an inch too low, or what (on second thought, I'm probably wrong, here)

lips do look good though

nose is sharp enough to cut cheese on, I'm presuming that's still a WIP

Right, I should probably do some work on this today. Here's what the new head looks like with the old hair:

Looks pretty weird, but I can't point out why. Any suggestions on things to fix (don't worry about the nose, it's already on the top of my list)?
