  2. increase AR

  4. 00:28:537 (4,5) - they are too close
  5. 00:29:966 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2) - this is toooo much over mapping ~ use 2 or 3 sliders between there

The background image is kinda low res and a bit mushy. You should find something else.

A video of the intro could probably be included at some point.

The blue and white combo colors are a bit bright.

Easy:
  1. I think that you could easily put the AR to 3 here.
  2. 00:09:680 (1,2) - I know the spinner means you need more space, but I think that it clicks better if you move the slider and the note after a quarter step back, then shorten the spinner.
  3. 00:48:823 (1) - like above, this slider should probably start at 00:48:394 instead. You hit the start of that beat instead of the third note in.
  4. 00:59:108 - I agree that a note right at the end would tie it together pretty well.
Normal:
  1. 00:00:251 (1,2,3,4) - Aren't quite symmetrical. it'd look a bit neater if they were.
  2. 00:14:251 (3) - This should line up with the 1 & 2 below it
  3. 00:16:823 (3,5) - This would look a bit nicer if these didn't clip
  4. 00:22:251 (1,2,3,4) - Juts out kinda awkwardly
  5. 00:29:966 (2) - Should probably be vertical
  6. 00:40:251 (1,2,3) - This comes off at a little shallow of an angle. make the difference between them and 00:39:108 (1,2,3,4) clearer?
  7. 00:50:251 (1,1) - Don't know how I feel about the double spinner here. putting some notes in might be a bit better
  8. 00:59:108 - Again, a note here would be nice.
Hard:
  1. Having all the harder difficulties not have notes at the very beginning is a little odd. It's kind of a one or the other type thing.
  2. 00:09:394 - It would be great if you could fit a note here. I know that the spinner is close, but I think starting with the music takes precedence.
  3. 00:48:251 (1,2,3,4,5,6) - I wouldn't say this is too hard on it's own, but its a little out of left field so close to the spinner.
  4. 00:29:394 (1,2,3,4,5,1,2,3,4,5) - Is pretty hard, but that might just be me.
  5. 00:36:537 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) - Could be straightened out a bit.

00:34:251 (1) - listen to this slider here 00:32:251 (1) - this slider is good but the rest are placed incorrectly. listen to the notes and let the sliders follow the same rhythm

  1. Your offset is wrong, try to place it on 251, and also your BPM was doubled? idk but I think 105 fits more cuz you map the parts that don't really have rapid sounds
  2. Your BG is unrankable, Recommended BG sizes are 1366x768 or 1024x768
  3. Find a new BG? BG seems so dark it's pretty uncomfortable to play with bright combo colors but your BG is super dark

Easy
  1. 00:06:823 (1) - Unrankable, you need to recover 4 ticks after or before spinner.
  2. Use 1.00x DS instead of 0.80x
  3. 00:11:108 (2,3,4,1,2) - Continous gaps like this is pretty hard for beginners, try to make them 1/1 sliders instead
  4. 00:18:537 (1,2,3) - These three objects are so unpredictable for beginners and also for me x-x
  5. 00:25:394 (1) - Same reason about spinner above

Your new at mapping right? I'm not really good at explaining things but I'll give you some advices at mapping, but first of all Listen carefully to the music then start to think out what you should use, Circles are used for emphasizing strong beats which is most of the time found at the downbeat (big white tick) while sliders are used for on-hold vocals or something, don't just map what you've hear, think out if you place that beat there is it predictable? is it precise with the music? Not only vocals are followed all the time you must also include the background music, like here (on easy) 00:18:537 (1,2,3) - You just follow whats really obvious sound but do you think that it fits precisely? maybe yes to you cuz you are the mapper, you know where your objects will be clicked and shown but how about other players? are they aware that it is pretty late? I guess you need to consult the wiki more and observe maps that you've played, mostly in easy we map on white ticks continously so that players would not be so confused in the rhythms, try to question yourself "Is this part really deserve a circle or a slider?" and also about the flow of the map, I saw that you use super SPACED flow on the insanes, man that's not good it looks like overdone, your music is pretty calm yet you placed super spaced objects that emphasize nothing, although it's insane it doesn't mean that you can put much difficult beats, try to control it, I'm not really good at explaining things so sorry I can't be really helped a lot for now, as much as I wanted to help you I really can't because I'm really bad at explaining xD anyway goodluck to you!

Big changes, thank you both so much!

Pentori - Implemented practically everything. The one thing I'll say is that I didn't change the "poop" sliders near the end because they're supposed to be ugly; it's goosebumps.

Janpai - Appreciate the input, I know I'm pretty bad right now but I'm still learning. IImplemented your suggestions and changed the spacing a bit on Light Insane to make it less "super spaced flow" as you said.

For the hard and easy, what about them is the problem? You suggest a remap, but I'm not sure how remapping would change anything if I don't know what the problem is.

Spooky - All suggestions done. I hope the new spooky sliders aren't too squishy.

  1. At 00:32:250 you broke up the beats into a "collection" of length 5 (a circle then a slider of length 4) and length 3 (a slider of length 2 and then a circle) but at 00:36:822 you broke it up into two "collections" of length 4. Slightly off putting. I would go with two "collections' of length 4 for both.

  2. Same this as above. 00:34:536 is a "collection" of length 3 followed by one of length 2, but 00:39:107 is a collection of length 4 followed by one of length 3. Either 4 then 3 or 3 then 4 would be fine.
Normal:
  1. Looks fine to me.
Hard:
  1. 00:37:393 - I would change this slider to two circles.

Hey! I decided to give it a quick check as per your request.

[General]
  1. Bright combo colours do not go too well with the dark-green BG, if you ask me. Maybe darken them?
[Easy]
  1. 00:15:691 (3,1) - minor - as the tail of (1) is so close players might accidentally hit it. Consider re-arranging the pattern in a more obvious way? example
  2. 00:21:405 (4) - the clap on this slider is off, it is better if you place it on the sliderstart, becuaase that's where the clap in the music is.
  3. 00:22:548 - the clap is placed correctly here, but having it in the middle of a slider means that players will not be able to click it and get proper feedback.Try something like this?
    Note: something similar happens to the beats at 00:32:834 - and 00:33:976 - you might want to do some changes, so, stornger claps can be mapped.
  4. 00:41:405 (4) - something similar to the patterns above, there are two very strong hits, so it would be more logical to use two circles, giving each of the beats a clickable object.

    Everything else is fine, though it could use more work on its appearance. Though you should not worry, this will come as you map more. For now you can just give it an extra check and see if there's anything you personally dislike.
[Normal]

    Note: same happens a few more times, you can listen to the song and find tsuch patterns yourself.
  2. 00:36:262 - the slider goes offscreen a little bit, probably should be moved higher.
  3. 00:43:691 (1,2,3,4,5,1,2,3,4,5) - I don't think the spacing reduction here is necessary. You could use regular spacing and play around with the patterns. example This would keep the flow and feel more playable, in my opinion.

    Overall it's the same things again. A few rhthm mistakes and minor appearance issues.
Not too bad, but definiely has a lot of space to improve!

TY for the mod! I've carefully considered all your triplet suggestions and I'm not really a fan of them. I had an insane that was a lot of triplets like that but it was pretty bad to play and felt very overmapped so I deleted it. I don't wanna turn Spooky into that :P so I have triplets where I feel they are most necessary.

As for your your 1/8 to the right comment I disagree personally but You could be right about that. If someone else comments on it I'll change it, though. I did change it to a reverse slider, because I felt going from two reverse sliders two a triplet was pretty random at best.

Lastly, the comment about the shorting of the reverse slider at the end I completely agree with.

^Didn't apply either change, I think it's fine as it is now. The reason I have it like I do now is because if I skip notes this section feels very awkward to play. I've tried various setups and I think the one I have right now feels the best to play while fitting the music as best as possible. I see where you're coming from, though.

As for your second comment, it's a good opportunity for me to explain myself. So for the first two sets of 1/4 notes, I didn't have a slider at the end, but the third one I did. My reasoning for this is that there is a distict note hat I need to map at 00:20:833, but putting another 1/4 note there is hard to read (people do 4 1/4 notes twice, and expect the same the third time), so I gave the player a leniency by making it a slider instead.

But instead of doing too much stuff, I think you could rename it to "Average" and rename normal to "Advanced" so your easy doesn't get to be considered "easy" and nobody else complains about it, and your mapset could still be rankable because you're having at least one difficulty that is less than two stars in difficulty rating. Otherwise, here's what you would have to do to make it easier:
maybe someone skipped this diff to avoid telling you this :^)

  1. 00:09:405 (1,2,3) - You should get rid of patterns like this one and do simpler ones, you're demanding too much for a beginner. Check all your diff since there are a lot of them~ Besides, it is recommended to star easy diffs with a slider, since that gives a good start for beginners~

I made a remap that I guess would be considered easy after this part of the mod, played through my current Easy and the remap a bunch, decided I liked my easy a lot more. I have the remap saved (won't upload it though) just in case, but yeah. Renamed to Average, as you suggested. I like that idea a lot.

Mod response tl;dr - Applied everything.

A few notes for future reference;

Despite being a pretty new mapper overall (I've been spamming some maps in my freetime though, even if I don't upload any of them lol), I'm committed to getting this song ranked; I loved the books as a kid and the song itself has been part of an inside joke between me and my friends for a while (I fell in love when the dogs barked the main melody)

The big point in this mod was that the patterns were just kinda random and ugly. I actually agree, and so I'm going to do my best to make the patterns...not random and ugly. Thanks for the mod ezek, I appreciate it quite a bit.

P.S.; thanks for introducing me to that winter song :^)

P.S. 2 - Just to put this out there, I know that spamming KDS on a map doens't really help it much, but I've been modding a lot to get better at mapping, and there isn't really anywhere else to for it to go lol. I guess I could save it, but...eh.

I don't think you need to set break time in such a short song. even if you insist, I suggest that you make Average and Advanced break at the same period.
there's a huge sv gap between your Advanced (1.3) and Hard (2.6) and it makes the diff spread really unballanced. it's really strange that the Advanced diff has a lower sv than Average, I'd suggest that you turn it up to around 2.2 and remap the Advanced diff, since this can be an unrankable issue

This is the byproduct of a recent change that make be rename Easy and Normal. Because of your (admittedly very relevant) concern, I'm gonna remap Advanced with a 2.2 slider velocity. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! This officially means I've remapped every single difficulty.

Also, fixed the preview point thing. As a side note, the break at the "goosebumps" is there in the average because I felt mapping it would be weird for an easier difficulty, I think it's fine for advanced though. I'll take a look when I remap.

I thought about this for a bit but decided to keep it as is. I think it creates an interesting change in rythm to keep the song from being extremely repetitive (which admittedly, it is)

Since I know someone else will ask about this, hit circle overuse is totally intentional in this map. Sliders feel forced on the other difficulties for difficulty purposes, but I really think this map is a hit circle fest at heart. Thus, the freedom to not worry about keeping it easier lets Spooky take full advantage of what this map is trying to be; a slower hit circle aim map with generally consistent spacing.
