Edited the rules, new rules and changes marked in bold. These changes have been added to spice up the latter rounds and increase the comeback potential for players. With this, the game has also gotten a bit more complex and I am curious to see, how players will adapt.

The game goes as follows:

- Each player will start with 1000 coins.
- Every round, you must DM me with the number of coins you wish to bid.
- Your coins will be deducted on the next round by how many coins you spent on the previous round.
- The player who bids the lowest number of coins in each round is out.
- The player who submits the second lowest will get 50% of their spent coins back.
- The player who submits the second highest will get their spent coins back.
- If a tie occurs, both players will be eliminated/get their coins back. In addition to this, the amount they bid will be granted to the player who currently holds the least coins.
- Once there are only 5 players remaining, counted after elimination, up until there are only 3 at the start of the round, whenever a player is eliminated, their remaining coins are given to the player with the least remaining coins. If more than 500 coins are inherited, all coins past 500 will be given to the player with the 2nd least coins.
- Final round only, if you bid within 50 coins of your maximum possible bid, you will not be eliminated if you end up with the lowest bid of the round. However, even if no one is eliminated, this round will not be repeated and players will be ranked by the amount of coins they have left and the game will conclude.
- The last player standing wins!
- And most importantly, have fun!

Order of Events that depends on Coins:
- Coin inheritence checks for the remaining coins after the bids, before coin back and any coins being awarded.
- Coins back happens 2nd.
- Ties resulting in coins being granted happens last.

The new standings after this process, will be the current round standings posted after each round, however the update log that lead to it will be part of it so that players can understand how things happened.

Scheduling:

- The normal deadline per round will be 24h, but if every participant has already submitted their bid, the round will end early, deadline for the next round will still be as if it had started a day later as normally planned however, to account for players not noticing an earlier start into the next round. This allows the game to progress much faster, if people are active, without accidentally punishing people.
- If a player hasn't submit anything by the time the deadline is met, they will automatically spend twice as much as the highest bid of the round. If not enough coins are left to do this, I'll use my own discretion to decide a fair amount or disqualify as necessary. They will also be given a strike if this happens, 2 strikes and you're out immediately.

Would people be interested in playing this? Write "In" if you are and want to sign up, I think the game requires at least 5 people to make sense, but the more the better.

Sounds interesting. You should probably PM me to remind me tho since I will probably forget about it.

Since no one else responded, I'm assuming there is either a lack of interest in general or something in regards to the rules that makes people not want to play? I personally think it's a fun FG, but I am open to suggestions if you think there need to be changes to the rules, etc.

That's the minimum 5 required to play already! I'd personally really like to get to 10 participants before starting and signups have gone smooth so far, so I'll see how they'll go from here for a few days and then make a decision based on that. I'll PM everyone that signed up once the game is starting / if something relevant happens, so don't worry about actively checking the thread atm.

Bump. Seems to me like everyone who is interested has already signed up, so this'll be the last bump and if no one signs up, I'll start the game tomorrow with 7 people.

Technically first round is over, but 2 out of 7 haven't even been online yet to receive my msg that the game has started, so just for the very first round only, I'll give a 1 day extension for them to notice that the game has started. Everyone else pretty much instantly responded though!
Husa
should also pm them on old site just in case, maybe,,,

Kyomaku
Good idea. But I checked their profile and they just haven't even been online since yesterday (refering to Penguin and Ender Lain)

(Edit cause I can't make a new post, yet)

R1 has concluded!
Ender Lain 536
Husa 450
Vinnici 273
samX500 201
Puzzle 150 Coins back!
Hypercyte 140 Eliminated
Penguin DQ'ed

R1 Standings:
Puzzle 1000
samX500 799
Vinnici 727
Husa 550
Ender Lain 464
Hypercyte 0
Penguin 0

Penguin hasn't been online for over 4 days by now and he'd be sitting on sub 100 coins, technically zero, if I enforced the bid rule, since there have been some really high bids, so I decided to simply DQ him.

R2 is starting as of now. DM your bids and good luck to everyone remaining. R2 is always going to be very interesting, as players start to rethink their bids after seeing how everyone else has bid R1.

Only 10 coins difference D:

Good luck to the rest of you!!

Someone is clearly in the lead, but it's actually not by much, even Ender and Husa can still take the lead with a few lucky bids.

The 10 coin difference kind of sort of scares me, but yayyyy.

Husa 332.73
Ender Lain 314

The standings after this round are as follows:

samX500 799

Husa 217.27
Ender Lain 150
Vinnici 0

R3 starts as of now and you can DM me your bids, but considering this round concluded early, it'll have a deadline of 48h. 2 more rounds to go until we'll know our first winner! So far it seems to be a really close game between sam and Puzzle, but who knows? Maybe Ender Lain or Husa can make a comeback. They're really running low on Coins, though!

Good luck to all the remaining participants.

Edit:

All bids have been sent in, thus R3 now concludes. These have been the bids!

Congratulations to Ender Lain for making 4th place! And with this, we are entering the final round. You can DM your bids as of now.

Who's going to win, who's going to bust? A single bid can still turn everything around.

Thank you to everyone who participated. I am thinking about hosting a 2nd round, but with a few changes to the ruleset to make the latter rounds more interesting and to increase the comeback potential.

#1 No more bids past the decimal, clean numbers only. (looking at you Husa)
#2 Once there are only 5 players remaining, whenever a player is eliminated, their remaining coins are given to the player currently in last place, that is, with the least amount of coins. This does not apply for the final round.

I had more ideas in mind, but I wasn't happy with them in the end, so I left it at those 2 for now. I'd love to hear suggestions though. The main goal is to improve the rounds with 4 and 3 players remaining. Ideally* players try to win, but this isn't the first time that I played and hosted this, so I've seen many players simply play it safe in the end and outbid the last place by 1, which means the player with the most coins going into the final round always wins. If people actually try to go for the win, they'll have to try to be the middle bid in the final round for the coins back bonus and that would make the last round more exciting, but I can't force players to do that and risk being eliminated when they can simply take the easy 2nd place (which in turns gives the current first place the easy and safe victory).

So because of that, I was thinking about adding extra rules / options, that would allow the last 3 or 4 remaining players to have a slightly more drastic impact and create more chaos, so people can't as easily figure out a "safe" bid, increasing the amount of mindgames a little. Unfortunately I just didn't manage to find an idea that satisfied me, yet, but yeah, go ahead and drop suggestions if you have any in mind, don't worry about making good suggestions, even a bad suggestion can give the inspiration that leads to a good suggestion. With that said, here are 2 of my bad ideas that I had in mind:

BadIdeaA) The player currently in last place can manipulate the bid of up to 2 players by up to +/-50
BadIdeaB) Every player, one time only, can place a special bid with a coin/bid ratio of 1:2 (e.g. spending 100 coins to bid 200 and so on)

Lastly, I was thinking about placing a special event on either the highest or the 2nd highest bid. I had thought about stuff like, the 2nd highest or highest bid automatically stealing 100 coins of the player currently having the most coins, but didn't like it too much. But I think it would be more interesting if there was some sort of benefit to having the 2nd highest (or highest) bid.

Well, looking forward to responses.
Husa
yea sounds interesting, rule #2, that is

ggwp
samX500
rule #2 would definitely be a good addition to the game since there are currently no way of making a comeback, once you are behind it's up to the other player to mess up and let you win, you can't really do much yourself.

Also I think that the rule under which the second lowest bid gets a refund should be removed or at least nerfed because if you do get second lowest bid, you gain a massive advantage and anyway there is already an insentive to bid low, which is to save as much coin as possible for later into the game, I don't think the game should reward the player for doing something that already rewards him.

Maybe we could add a rule that the largest bid get's half refund. In my opinion that is a lot better than the rule for the second lowest bid because biding high is highly discouraged so trying to go for this half refund is a high risk since if you fail at getting the highest bid you will be at a huge disadvantage in the coming round.

I also think that some sort of credit system would be really good for the game to prevent player from simply outbiding the lowest player by one. I am not too sure what would be a good way to implement a credit system but it's something that could really bring more strategy into the game and prevent the easy outbid by one strategy.

Tell me your feedback on these suggestion and maybe add your own idea to the discussion. I am thinking of hosting a coin game myself in the near future to test out how our idea work in practice and if they end up being bad idea, it's no big deal, it's just a silly game with no reward at all that doesn't take much time to play.

Kyomaku
Refund on 2nd highest bid actually sounds pretty cool. I'm not sure about removing it from the second lowest, because the reward is in the risk of being close to being immediately eliminated, the reward from bidding higher is safety.

I'll have to think about this more, maybe others have opinions on this, too? I'll host whatever you guys want to play tbh, so if you prefer one ruling over another, just say so. Alternatively, I could also rotate rules, one game of coin game with 2nd highest refund, one with 2nd lowest refund, etc.

Another idea would be, to nerf the 2nd lowest refund to 50% back.

I'm also thinking about a rule, that penalizes people for having the same bid. E.G. PlayerA and PlayerB bid 100 coins, so both receive a penalty, such as a fixed amount of coinds being deducted from both (such as 50, or 100, or maybe a %) or a multiplier based on their bid, such as 50% of their bid. Just a thought though, I haven't fully thought it through, yet. (since messing with people's coins in a punishing way might be annoying, it could also be done this way: a bid that is shared will be given to the player with the least coins, e.g. playera and playerb bid 100, playerc receives 100 coins)

In regards to the outbid by 1 strategy, same bid penalty might impact that one a lot, if 3rd one is close to first and 2nd, third one could win from them losing coins to the penalty/gaining coins, depending on how it would be done, by adding one extra rule: "Final round only, as long as you bid within 50 coins of your maximum bid, you will not be eliminated for having the lowest bid, however even if 3 players remain after this round, the round will not be repeated and the placement will be decided by the amount of coins each player has left."

This would give massive comeback and mindgame potential for the last round, unless my mind missed something in it's dehydrated state. So hot. :(

I've settled on the new ruleset and edited it into the original post, please give it a read. With that said, signups are open again. Post "in" if you want to play. You'll be DM'ed if anything major happens and notified when the game is about to start.

If there are any questions and further explanations needed, do ask.

Final BUMP, Game is starting tomorrow. Last second signups are still possible. We're at 8/10 players.

Bids can already be sent in if you want to, but the deadline remains in 48h from now for R1, since the round officially starts tomorrow. If by any chance every participant sends in their bids before tomorrow and no additional players sign up, this could lead to a very quick first round though.
