"Suarez with his bulldog like approach"

Are you saying that it was not red-card worthy?

Also, the referee was heavily in Italy's favour the whole damn time, so c'mon FIFA, keep bringing your corrupt referees :)
Oh cmon, the red card was harsh. And how can you send off a player for that and keep Suarez in game after THAT.

1 penalty not given for Uruguay = 1 invented red card to Italy (that was a pure yellow, we'd see 2/3 red card per match if that was red worthy)

That's fair like this, I can't complain more and I don't really see why the referee was in our favour for the whole match, nor yours

then Suarez arrived lol
Snepif
If you think that was not red card worthy, you have never played a football match.
Well judging by your country's performance... that might be very true indeed..

Oh and the referee not giving 3 fouls to Uruguay in the last minutes and extending the match more than the 5 mins, etc etc...

What are you even saying, 5 mins are normal in such case and the referee extended to 6 because Muslera wasted a minute to kick a ball (this happens often, not gonna complain).

By the way, Marchisio wasn't intentional, he moved like that in order to protect the ball with his whole body, but he accidentaly touched his knee whe the match was rather calm and nobody was nervous. He was late, but the match wasn't nervous at all, so I'd give a yellow card, but I'm pretty sure he did this to compensate the missed penalty. I'm looking to other countries' comments and it seems like the referee was wrong tho, lol
Tanzklaue
both teams showed despicable foulbased football and it's really sad that not both of them have to go.
Snepif
My dear, in football, you can't go to the ball with your foot in a vertical position, your foot's tip must be down making your foot horizontal, if not, it's a severe foul, and if it hits the other guy it's 100% red worthy. We call it plancha here and it's foul even if it doesn't hit the guy, so imagine what happens if it does. You can't approach the ball in an agressive position towards the other player.
Deimos

A red card for that? Really?

Then again, I rarely saw something like this happening in Europe, but we knew that this referee was strict and we should have expected that

I didn't said that he doesn't deserve it.

But I really hope that Luis Suarez is going to be banned or they should pull out all of his teeth. Something is wrong in his head.

Like seriously, why? WHY BITE?! hahaha
JonnyThatJonny
A lot of favorite european teams going out and meanwhile Greece just skimmed through the last 16 with a last minute penalty.

I was expecting a lucky win from the result, but from the highlights they really dominated that one, well deserved.

This world cup is disaster to european, asian teams. Italy, Japan bye bye

so are messi and ronaldo, neymar, some others.

that's okay, the last 8 years were heavily dominated by european teams, and europe still has some presence in the round of 16.

15 hours remaining...
Vish024
In my opinion the Marchisio decision could've gone either way, the manner in which he approached the challenge was dangerous and you can understand why the referee chose to send him off. At the same time it looks like he was simply trying to shield the ball and at most deserved a yellow, we've all seen reds given for worse challenges than that.

Suarez the pantomime villain strikes again, if he had been sent off for that bite incident I can guarantee you that they would not have scored that goal and would've lost momentum. If FIFA had their wits about them they'd suspend him for a lengthy number of matches, for life if possible. All in all I think Italy were quite unlucky and definitely didn't deserve to be knocked out in this fashion, I hope Colombia annihilate Uruguay in the upcoming second round.

Also what a performance by Greece and Samaras, well done boys. Poor CIV still haven't made the second round in their short world cup history.
Cyclohexane
I agree with the red card, btw, you can clearly see he was trying to push him off and a gesture like that can end up being very dangerous

however Suarez was fucking disgusting as well and I think that match as a whole was really shameful to watch.
Tanzklaue
actually, i think it was quite the deserved loss for italy. they played much worse and barely had any offensive actions worth mentioning until the 80th minute. it was the typical italian timeplay, and it came back to bite them.

or rather suarez did. that guy should get his ass booted from liverpool and the national team for being such a prick.
Vish024
Italy made a few attacking moves in the first half and were no more defensive than Uruguay, De Sciglio and Darmian were working overtime on the flanks and I think the former played quite well. Immobile kept cocking up every attack whenever he received the ball, for a man that scored 22 goals in Serie A it's quite obvious that he's not up to this level of football.

The second half they lost that attacking attitude because Mario was pulled off for Parolo who's a central midfielder that isn't inclined to rush forward and coordinate attacks, I think this was the tactical mistake that caught them. Mario got a second yellow, he'd obviously miss the next game if Italy went through, and Prandelli supposedly pulled him off afraid that he'd get himself sent off considering his rash challenges in the first half. Utter bollocks, it's a do or die game and he's going to miss the next game anyway so why not just order him to keep a cool head, not do an Eric Cantona with his tackles and try his best whenever he receives the ball? Parolo added nothing to the game and Immobile continued his mishaps up front.

Marchisio's sending off was what triggered a complete change in the attitude, they wouldn't dare commit too many players forward being one man down and playing against Suarez who's lethal on the counter as England and Cahill found out first hand. Poor Marchisio will be blaming himself for what happened.
Andrea
All I have to say is that Suarez also deserved a red card, but it didn't happen.

As expected I'm not surprised, this totally reminds me of Italy - South Korea 2002 with the other Moreno.
Vish024
Well quite but after all the corruption trouble in Italy in the last 10 years or so I don't think it'd be justified for any Italians or fans of Italian football to put on their tinfoil hats.

Some nice games tonight, expecting Nigeria to trouble the Argies and France to clean up Ecuador and do the Swiss a favour.
SpeechClass
I think Referee is not only reason Italy do not beat Uruguay. Italy's two top line(Balotelli, Immobille) do not working cooperatively.
Veratti's movement make good chance to another Italy's players. But they blow the chance to make a goal.
Tanzklaue
fifa is investigating in the matter of suarez currently. he did these bite attacks before, and overall shows bad sportsmanship whereever he goes.

maybe he will get what he deserves.

... nah, it's fifa, they prolly fine him 500 bucks and then let him go.

Swiss are through by the looks of it, Shaqiri having a field day so far.

Aside from that over 150 people have made a collective of 44000 quid off the Suarez biting incident.

red card for playing the ball.

now i have truly seen it all. please fifa, fire every single of those incompetent fuckwits that play referee in these games.
Vish024
He may have played the ball but he followed through with the studs which was unnecessary. Anyway why would you approach a challenge in that manner with your studs over the ball, it's just daft.
Fabi
If im not wrong, first hat trick of wc. Also France and Switzerland passed next round.
Tanzklaue
Germany - USA hype anyone?
Vish024
Expecting Germany to win and USA to slide through with goal difference if Ghana beat Portugal, at best a draw for USA. If Low gets his defence right and plays people in their actual positions as I pointed out a few pages ago they should win comfortably.

Mind you a fair amount of the players in the US squad are German born including Brooks, Chandler, Johnson and Jones so it'll be interesting to see how they shape up in this game with Bundesliga experience.
Tanzklaue
prolly soiling their pants because germany is basically the best out of dortmund and bayern combined, with a few cherry picks on top of it.
Oinari-sama
Well well someone's eager to make money out of the golden boy already xD

Vish024
He's received a four month ban from "all football-related activities", a 9 match ban from international fixtures and a 66,000 quid fine. This means he misses out on several Premier League and Champions League fixtures for Liverpool.

That's mild, surely he deserves something apocalyptic for that sort of absurd behaviour.

why did i expect any classiness from americans? silly me

we played a dominant 1:0, and only let the US gt few chances. the referee could've given more yellow cards for the US tackle game, but it didnÄ't matter much in the end.

argentina won't move on from the ro16 against france. they look a lot weaker than both 2006 and 2010. and in both tourneys we beath them (2010 even smashed them).

i think the ro16 shouldn't be a problem for germany, either algeria or russia, who are both worse than any opponent in our group was.

it's a minority, most US people are glad they advanced to the knockoutstage.

don't forget that we faced Switzerland before once(just once) at 66. and we won

i had the wrong gameplan in my head.

switzerland will prolly give argentina a good run for their money, might even beat them. USA and belgium are both probably weaker than switzerland. after that you it the netherlands and you're out.

Yep this is true. The idiots in that picture are definitely the minority but sadly the idiots are the loudest. I'm just happy we made it out of that difficult group; no one expected much from us but we did it anyway.

Tanz, even if that were true, one thing seems to be for sure: an American team will win

klinsmann is underrated, both as player and as trainer. he laid the foundation for the german team you see today and he made the US a real soccer team. i hope you get far in the tournament, though argentina and the netherlands in your bracket are pretty brutal.
JonnyThatJonny
That was our best match out of the 3, which isn't saying much. Sucks going out by goal average, but in 2010 we went through to the last 16 the same way, you win some you lose some. The US gave a much more consistent display so it's fair.

Hope our team gets a good revamp, we need it or we'll struggle to qualify both the next Euro and World cup.
bmin11
We should decrease the Asian spot to 3 and give it to Europe
Tanzklaue
doesn't europe already have almost half the spots anyway?

rip, Germany will crush Algeria haha
Tanzklaue
yea, that game was basically the qualification for a beating lol.
Vish024
Ghana lost because of the drama that took place in their camp a day or so before the game. Muntari assaulted a Ghanaian FA official and Boateng apparently abused their manager and coach. I thought this world cup had lacked the usual camp/dressing room drama but then Ghana did us the honours.

Second round fixtures:
Brazil vs Chile
Uruguay vs Colombia
Netherlands vs Mexico
Costa Rica vs Greece
France vs Nigeria
Germany vs Algeria
Argentina vs Switzerland
Belgium vs USA

I'm expecting Chile to clean up Brazil, Colombia to trounce Uruguay and USA to edge Belgium. Belgium haven't lived up to their potential so far, not much of a unit.

bmin11 wrote:

Yeah we weren't very impressive this time but nor were Africa. I honestly expected Japan to progress from the group, especially when Honda fired in that opener against CIV. If they hadn't been so woeful against Greece they could've easily passed through. I genuinely think that if we (Australia) were in that same group as Japan we'd have progressed, taking into account how we performed against Chile and the Dutch, but that's the difference between finishing first and second in the qualification group.
Tanzklaue
I'll take the cheap shot and say germany has the easiest round of 16 of the last 8 years. we should do this.

but france... france will be fucking scary and might take us out.

i also think there is a realistic chance for switzerland to beat argentina, argentina is pretty disappointing until now, especially when compared to 2006 and 2010.

also chile won't beat brasil. not with the kind of bollockssucking brasil receives from refs combined with neymar carrying them.
Vish024
If Brazil can get past Chile without any strange shenanigans involved I'll take them seriously, otherwise this Brazil team is just a shadow of previous sides. I'm hoping Colombia can go all the way, they have experience, flair and virtually a home crowd behind them like the other South American teams.

Greece over Costa Rica? That's very ambitious I daresay. Belgium are more a team of stars than a proper unit, US should squeeze past them I think. Argentina have a reputation for scraping to the quarter finals but the Swiss will trouble them. Fuck Brazil.

USA < Belgium - USA can run but they can't play football. But this is probably my closest choice together with Brazil vs Chile. Their physical condition might as well bring them the win over Belgium
JonnyThatJonny
The thing with the greeks is that no one ever expects anything from them, they never play attractive football but they have a thing for causing upsets. It will also be the 1st match Costa Rica isn't the underdog, I expect them to win but Greece is always Greece.

Also I'd love to watch this Colombia with Falcao. I honestly thought they'd be a bit lost without him but the team shows talent even so. James has grown to be a great playmaker.

I think Costa Rica, Germany, and France are the surest shoo-ins for quarterfinals. The rest look like they could go either way to varying degrees.

chile having way too much respect against brazil, also brazil knowing how far bad refereeing brought them and letting themselves go to the ground in spectacular fashion.

Chile with the equalizer though!

I'm ashamed of being Brazilian after seeing how we managed to not let Chile sing their national anthem entirely. Fucking stupid people think that they're the only country that has the rights to do that.
Vish024
That was quite unsavoury when the Chilean anthem was booed and whistled towards the end.

Nonetheless it's been a decent game so far, Hulk's disallowed goal will be a future point of debate. The players look thoroughly tired, it's gonna be difficult to struggle on in this heat.
