doesn't europe already have almost half the spots anyway?

Yeap.
Cherry Blossom
Algeria !!! o/
rip, Germany will crush Algeria haha
Tanzklaue
yea, that game was basically the qualification for a beating lol.
Vish024
Ghana lost because of the drama that took place in their camp a day or so before the game. Muntari assaulted a Ghanaian FA official and Boateng apparently abused their manager and coach. I thought this world cup had lacked the usual camp/dressing room drama but then Ghana did us the honours.

Second round fixtures:
Brazil vs Chile
Uruguay vs Colombia
Netherlands vs Mexico
Costa Rica vs Greece
France vs Nigeria
Germany vs Algeria
Argentina vs Switzerland
Belgium vs USA

I'm expecting Chile to clean up Brazil, Colombia to trounce Uruguay and USA to edge Belgium. Belgium haven't lived up to their potential so far, not much of a unit.

We should decrease the Asian spot to 3 and give it to Europe
Yeah we weren't very impressive this time but nor were Africa. I honestly expected Japan to progress from the group, especially when Honda fired in that opener against CIV. If they hadn't been so woeful against Greece they could've easily passed through. I genuinely think that if we (Australia) were in that same group as Japan we'd have progressed, taking into account how we performed against Chile and the Dutch, but that's the difference between finishing first and second in the qualification group.
Tanzklaue
I'll take the cheap shot and say germany has the easiest round of 16 of the last 8 years. we should do this.

but france... france will be fucking scary and might take us out.

i also think there is a realistic chance for switzerland to beat argentina, argentina is pretty disappointing until now, especially when compared to 2006 and 2010.

also chile won't beat brasil. not with the kind of bollockssucking brasil receives from refs combined with neymar carrying them.
Vish024
If Brazil can get past Chile without any strange shenanigans involved I'll take them seriously, otherwise this Brazil team is just a shadow of previous sides. I'm hoping Colombia can go all the way, they have experience, flair and virtually a home crowd behind them like the other South American teams.
Kanye West
Time for predictions I guess.

Brazil > Chile (honestly only because I think the shenanigans will continue)
Colombia > Uruguay (seeya Suarez)
France > Nigeria
Germany > Algeria
Netherlands > Mexico
Costa Rica > Greece
Switzerland > Argentina
USA > Belgium

how can greece even afford running football team
Tanzklaue
by running on german money of course.
thelewa
no wonder they have no money, they keep trampling all over it

Greece over Costa Rica? That's very ambitious I daresay. Belgium are more a team of stars than a proper unit, US should squeeze past them I think. Argentina have a reputation for scraping to the quarter finals but the Swiss will trouble them. Fuck Brazil.

people who say that costa rica will lose to greece either don't know how terrible greece is or how good costa rica is atm.

costa rica beat uruguayand italy and drawed england. meanwhile greece barely squeezed through with their only win against the ivory coast (who are completely overrated btw) and a draw against japan.

Brazil will struggle against Chile, but will passe
Colombia > Uruguay (RIP Suarez)
France will easily pass through Nigeria
same for Germoney
Netherlands v Mexico surely will be the most interesting game, but expecting Netherlands to win
Campbell Rica > Greece
Argentina will have a few troubles with Switzerland but will get through
USA surely will get through this disappointing Belgium team

Brazil < Chile - Mostly because I'm biased, but also because I believe that Chile is on a fucking big run right now and Brazil have barely edged through some weak group teams.
Colombia > Uruguay - No Suarez, No Goals.
France > Nigeria - Well... how did Nigeria get out of group stage again?
Germany > Algeria - OH god if Germany loses this.
Netherlands > Mexico - Nuff said I think, we all saw the performance.
Costa Rica > Greece - Greece were really weak and Costa Rica is not that weak and they have home-continent advantage lol (they got used to climate)
Switzerland > Argentina - I actually believe in this. Argentina isn't very strong at all and Switzerland (especially Shaqiri) are running like monkey, they very well might do it.
USA < Belgium - USA can run but they can't play football. But this is probably my closest choice together with Brazil vs Chile. Their physical condition might as well bring them the win over Belgium
JonnyThatJonny
The thing with the greeks is that no one ever expects anything from them, they never play attractive football but they have a thing for causing upsets. It will also be the 1st match Costa Rica isn't the underdog, I expect them to win but Greece is always Greece.

Also I'd love to watch this Colombia with Falcao. I honestly thought they'd be a bit lost without him but the team shows talent even so. James has grown to be a great playmaker.

Brazil (may)> Chile
Colombia (may)> Uruguay
France > Nigeria

USA ??? Belgium

Brazil > Chile Brazil is in their apparent bad form, but they are still fearful
Colombia > Uruguay Cavani needs to take the scoring role now if they want to win
France > Nigeria
Germany > Algeria
Netherlands > Mexico Mexico will have to show another match like vs Brazil
Costa Rica > Greece Despite Greece known for upsetting the favored side, we don't consider them to be the weaker side for no reason.
Switzerland < Argentina imo anything could happen, but I still favor Argentina
USA < Belgium Belgium is a disappointing team, but this is a disappointment towards a strong team.

EPL transfer news! United has signed Luke Shaw. Disappointed as I wished him to come to Chelsea, but oh well. He is gone now. I'm sure Chelsea would have gone for him if it wasn't for the FFP.

I think Costa Rica, Germany, and France are the surest shoo-ins for quarterfinals. The rest look like they could go either way to varying degrees.
Tanzklaue
chile having way too much respect against brazil, also brazil knowing how far bad refereeing brought them and letting themselves go to the ground in spectacular fashion.
Kanye West
Chile with the equalizer though!

Actually I get annoyed every time the commentators say "chili" instead of "chile"
Vish024
That first half shows just how much Brazil could do with a proper number 9 instead of a portly man called "Fred" up front.
Mismagius
I'm ashamed of being Brazilian after seeing how we managed to not let Chile sing their national anthem entirely. Fucking stupid people think that they're the only country that has the rights to do that.
Vish024
That was quite unsavoury when the Chilean anthem was booed and whistled towards the end.

Nonetheless it's been a decent game so far, Hulk's disallowed goal will be a future point of debate. The players look thoroughly tired, it's gonna be difficult to struggle on in this heat.

Bloody hell. Brazil make it to the quarter finals again, haven't failed since 1990.

This is too close for comfort from Brazil's point of view.

As for Chile... there will be a lot of pole bashing tonite =.=

so close chile...

good game, both teams were equals, and in the end the goal post and crossbar proved to be the best brazilians on the field.
Mikelicious
waaaaah so close ;_; gg to both teams, the match was great

The man of the match: Left goalpost.

That was a well fought game though. Chilean defense was amazing. Sad that it had to come down to that.
