osu!idol 2016 Final results!

The time has come again!
Welcome to another year of osu!idol! Are you ready?!

Do you enjoy singing and think you got the vocal skills to be osu!'s next idol? Grab a mic near you and come sign up!
This event has ended, stay tuned for next year!

  • ⚠ Rules & Guidelines

    Follow these as much as you can to ensure everything goes as smooth as possible!
  1. Noise cancellation is allowed, but vocal layering/harmonies/reverbs/autotune/effects/track mixing are not allowed.
  2. If an instrumental exists, you can use it in your entry. Example: click
  3. Acapellas are fine too.
  4. Make sure you choose a song that does not contain obscene language.
  5. If you are recording in an echo environment, please notify us after submitting.
  6. Make sure your voice is audiable, don't leave the background music too loud.
  7. Judgement only considers vocal performance.
  8. All submissions must be in MP3 file format!
  9. Please upload your recordings to a reliable website such as SoundCloud or puush! SoundCloud is highly recommended.
  10. Your song selection is not bound only to songs on osu!
  11. Duets are allowed but they must enter as a duet (one contestant).

  • Prizes

  1. 1st place: osu!idol 2016 Winner Profile Badge + 6 Months Supporter.
  2. 2nd place: 3 Months Supporter
  3. 3rd place: 2 Months Supporter

  • Stages

    Each stage will have 1 week deadline for submission (not including registrations) and around a week for judging.
  1. Registration Entries: Top 100 pass: Sing whatever you want!
  2. Stage 1: 40 out of ~80 pass: Sing whatever ye want!
  3. Stage 2: 20 out of 40 pass: JPOP/POP songs!
  4. Stage 3: 10 out of 20 pass: Sing whatever ye want!
  5. Stage 4: 3 out of 10 pass: ROCK/METAL songs!
  6. Stage 5: Finals! Our finalists will show us their full potential with no limit!
This can change if there are more/less entries than planned so dont be suprised if requirements change or stages are skipped!

two questions:
1. can we sing in any language or only japanese/english?
2. is there a restriction on song duration or can it be arbitrary?

1. Theres no language limit.
2. You can keep it 5-6 min. max, but for registrations I'd recommend something no longer than 3 mins.

Question: If the song has the same person's voice layered is it allowed to do so too? Or should we just pick other songs with only solo lines?

Rules state only vocal performance, you dont need to sing the bgm, if theres an instrumental, you can use it.

Read the rules. No vocal layers, you can sing without them.

Oh gosh, think I'm in!

Just to be sure, we can't sing accompaigned by the original music (with the singer and instruments) ; and therefore is it possible to use karaoke/instrumentals tracks (taken from youtube for example) to support us while singing or do we have to play along ourselves with our own instruments or sing acapella?

You guys think a built in mic for a laptop (ASUS K555L) would be sufficient?

I have a Macbook Air too and I think it has a decent mic but it's a drag to do non-school related stuff there so I'll try it in my ASUS laptop instead. Are their mics good?

Don't care about mic quality that much. But if you want to take it to a higher level, its your choice.

Ugh... tried singing a song but the mic turns out terrible. REALLY bad mic quality. It didn't sound anything like me. So, mic quality does matter. Don't go around saying "we want to hear your voice, we don't care about the quality" because of course you do. Now I bet people who have professional mics and stuff will completely own the tournament and nobody else would get a chance.

Like the person sings his/her part on a recording, and the other person sings on a different recording,
And you just combine them...

Rules state you can use instrumentals.

There is no language limit. Sing Indian Rock if you wish.

With only one singer its not allowed since one person cant produce two vocal layers on the fly without software editing. But with the nature of duets that is possible so yes, for duets it is allowed. The rule of vocal layering per person still applies though.
