Is Half-Time a good training tool?

Hi!

I'm currently making my own journey to actually being decent at this game and have been wondering- can using Half-time on maps that are unreadable on full speed help in getting me to read them better?

So far, that answer for me has been a no, but has anyone else had success using HT to learn a song?

Just remember that you will naturally become better by trying to push yourself to read maps that might be outside of your comfort zone.
Get used to new patterns by playing a wide range of beatmaps (and make sure you play mania specific maps and try to stay away from maps converted from standard mode)
But to answer your question: I like to use half time for maps that I am unable to pass in regular time, or to see how much better I can do compared to regular time. However, I don't think it's the best training tool out there. Just play more beatmaps and you'll get there ~

You have 41 ranked plays. This is barely enough time to get the absolute basics down. You've still got a lot of improvement ahead from just playing anything at all, regardless of what mods you use.

As JinJin said, HT can be fun for stuff you can't pass yet, but especially at your skill level, all you really need to do is keep playing.

Not many people play HT but it's a great mod to train with.

I do maps as bad as I do without halftime for some weird reason. Within 7% accuracy difference too.

I don't play mania but half time was actually helpful for me to get better at reading in taiko. I think this would be similar right?

Personally I prefer to push myself to the limits trying to read and play the map.
instead of remembering the map / reading unchallenging stuff for your skill level like a scrub

I use it in LN maps that give me that "I have absolutely no idea what's going on here" feeling.
It's working for me.

It's not bad, but I prefer using the bpm changer to edit songs to being 99-76% of the original speed rather than just 75%

Die.

As for the question: I don't really use HT, but I feel that it can be useful in training harder patterns that you're unable to do at proper speeds, like slow chordstreams, brackets or LN patterns. Then after you start getting the hang of it, you go to something a bit faster and come back to maps you've played with HT and play them on nomod. Interesting idea for sure.

Use HT for stuff that are still hard for your skill level even if HT is used. It helps overall in leaning certain patterns but it will not help you learn how to pass the song in a short term span of time. *cough Aiae SHD

Unless you have problems in sightreading but that's like a very very rare case. I personally dont know any ET or high skilled player who has a problem with sightreading (SVs not included).

Half time is pretty good for training difficult songs, but just playing songs at your level will be much, much better for practice.
If you continue to play, you will get better.

no
playing easier maps is a good training tool
playing hard maps on ht generally is not a good idea for new players, because it tends to create mindblocks, sections of a map that you can read but are unable to hit correctly due to bad habits

when you get to a higher level of play, aka when you're able to read and react without having to play a map over and over, ht is a really good tool to isolate patterns at a slower speed so you can think of how to hit the patterns

but at a lower skill level? ht is more detrimental, stick with normal play
