Hello there! With the recent news that osu!mania will officially be increasing the range of keys for play, I have decided I would try and help out all that wish to delve into the exquisite world of varied keyplay. No matter what game you play, or how much experience, this guide will include all ranked and later (potentially) unranked maps.

This thread is for use in conjunction with p/2847264

My system for difficulties will be based on the

0.01 through 1.50 stars Easy (EZ)
1.51 through 2.25 stars Normal (NM)
2.26 through 3.75 stars Hard (HD)
3.76 through 5.25 stars Insane (MX)
5.26 stars and beyond Expert (SC)

difficulty scale, with a sub category based on roman numerals from I through V. So, for example, Hard IV would be more challenging than Hard II, but less difficult than Insane I.

So without further ado, here's the listing for all players looking to diversify their playing. By all means, keep tabs on what difficulty level you are at for each key mode, and remember, the most important part is to enjoy yourself.

As you can see, there’s not a great spread of difficulties over all keys. Mappers are doing their best to help improve this, and it’s going to get a lot better as it has been recently. Don’t worry if you find that your skill at a certain keys are different from others. Just by playing a keymode, you will certainly improve, and ideally because fluent in as many keymodes as possible. If you love earning as many performance points as possible, don’t get discouraged just because you can’t get a new high score from 8k map. Just stick with it and remember, the three hardest ranked beatmaps as of right now are all different key modes.

Please help me to sort through any inconsistencies you might find in the rankings, sometimes a map might deserve to be moved up or down a difficulty ranking. Thank you for continued interest in mania and good luck to all of you!

Oh geez, I'm actually embarrassed I forgot to include a link to this.

I understand the functionality of the list you put so much time into updating, and understand the redundancy of having another one. But I wanted to include this one for two main reasons:

1. So that I can use a difficulty ranking system that's more centralized around the ingame difficulty names so that players can have an easier time determining what difficulties they should play with the releases of new maps.

and

2. So that people that are interested in different key modes but are either new to the different modes (like 9k when it becomes rank-able) or just generally have a different level of proficiency for different keymodes. This gives players a chance to say, I'm at the MX III level in 4k but in 8k I can only pass maps of HD II level.


Sorry to throw another ranking into the mix, but I'm doing so for the purpose of encouraging players to play multiple keymodes, as it seems to be the 'staple' of the mode.

If people want to play anything besides 7K or 4K right now, they'll have to do it in games outside of o!m, because there's nowhere near enough decent charts for the other keymodes around here.

If you really want to help 5K/6K/other become more popular, start charting for them, make good charts, and show to many people.
By good charts I mean no noodles and lots of stream notes without dumb jacks

Refer to my profile page description. I think 9k appeals to me most in terms of mapping, but I plan on trying to map all keys. The real issue for me is time, and right now I'm really busy.

But you're right, and I am actively seeking how I can help the community grow through more ranked key mode songs. Like modding Blocko's 6k difficulty for Happy End of the World, and so forth. Hoping the new ranking system should help get more maps ranked as well.

And things should only improve over time. There was a day when the only ranked maps were auto-converts and look where we are now.
