I've been playing Danganronpa for a little over a year now and am just curious what other people think about it. I got into it like- two years ago, but didn't start playing it till about middle of last year, and I've currently played through DRV1 and an in the middle of UDG, I'm slow at games I know, I'm hella backlogged (Spoilers: I'm right after
I know pretty much what happens in the other two games, but it got me wondering how other people feel about the games- mainly because for me, I honestly love Danganronpa. I love the concept, (most) of the characters, and how trials are held. Though, I know it's a bit- controversial? That doesn't feel like the right word, but Imma use it anyway- anywaysss, I feel like it's 'controversial' because of some of the things that happen in the games. (And also how insane the fandom is, though I guess I'm desensitized to that since the first fandom I was in was MHA, embarrassing ik) And while being a huge fan of the games, I'm not so much of a fan where I just turn a blind eye to it, I fully understand how insane some of the things that happen and I certainly don't enjoy THOSE aspects of the game (so not looking forward to those two scenes in UDG, gonna throw my keyboard fr fr)

However, I feel like what keeps pulling me back to Danganronpa besides my love for the concept and characters is the absolutely insane things characters say/do. I've absolutely cackled at both genuinely funny things they've done or laughing cause of 'holy crap what the hell did I just read?'. I'm not sure why, but seeing the characters do absolutely insane things keeps me coming back, and I can't say I've never felt so curious about what a character would say next- except when playing Danganronpa, I never know what to expect or who is gonna say something so out of pocket I have to go take a lap around my house. And I kinda love it honestly.

So that got me wondering how other people feel about the series- similar? Hate it? Somewhere in between? Is there a certain character you just love/hate? Feel free to answer these or just chat about it! Sorry for the rant, whoops ToT

P.s, anyone else lowkey excited about the new DR game coming out? I know its technically not another DR game- .. but I can't help but it call it another one, it has a similar style with the characters from what I've seen, so I'm pretty excited for it!

I've never played any Danganronpa, but I always had an image of it as visual novel investigation games

danganronpa is great, the only real issue it has is that danganronpa fans are stupid (i know because im one of them)
i havent played v3 because spoiler its not cannon other than that i love all danganronpa games and
anime, trigger happy havoc and danganronpa 2 are visual novel classics at this point

i didnt like trigger happy havoc at the beggining but i started to really get into it slowly, this game has a lot of great characters and arcs, maybe my 2 favs are the second trial where chihiro shows owada what it really means to be strong (peak cinema if you ask me) and the whole deal with celeste, she is such a bitch but somehow i saw myself emphasising with her (which i dont like lol)
the way you discover the main plot of the game is really cool and it makes you feel like your mind is being played with just like the characters.

danganronpa 2 is more of the same but its just as good, interesting characters and crazy plot that plays with your imagination. while the first game has banger characters i like the cast from this game a lot more, the relationships they have with each other are much more well done here, the punishment deaths in this game feel more painful (except mikan wtf was that shit) the trials however i found more confusing which may be a skill issue.
some things that i like are the nanami lore drop, nagito komaeda literally being one the most interesting character in the series yes i simp for him, the beautiful relationship bettwen Kuzuryu and pekoyama and the ending being fucking peak.

ultra despair girls introduced me to the games and i like it a lot, what got to me at the start was the kids, never in my life i had seen such scary children in media (also their backstories make you empathise with them and hate monaka more) so i immediately feel in love with this games twisted world and broken characters, in the other games we know what the world came to after junko did junko things but we did not really see it for ourselves but in this game you really feel like you are living a true apocalypse, you are tense everywhere you go and never feel truly safe.
this game is a spin off so theres no insane trials and the story is much more easy to understand you just go shooting stuff and watch cutscenes, this game is a bit controversial because not only its not a classic danganronpa experience it also sucks as a shooter, however if you are a danganronpa fan you wil have so much fun.
the best part of this game imo is the character development of fukawa and monaka as a whole, i like junko but monaka is one of the best villains ive seen in video games she is one of those characters you love to hate, sad the anime fucked her.

as for the anime content i dont have a lot to say
despair arc has the sadest death ever, izuru is cool call me edgelord i dont care and the fanservice scene is funny
future arc has a fucking banger opening and it ends the whole series good enough
the manga stuff is just lore so i dont really care about it

danganronpa v3 is still really enjoyable but the ending is hot garbage but its an understandable ending, imo dangan 2 was the best one out of all of em

Fair, I know pretty much spoilers for everything but MAN does v3 confuse me so much, and I'll probably be just as confused when I actually play through it fr fr. But I def agree with how interesting the characters and interactions are! Honestly it's probably my favorite part, I love seeing my pookies be unhinged DNWNRNR- but in more seriousness I do think some characters are done very well (though some things make me question my life, like THAT scene with Nagisa and Monaca coming up in UDG, send prayers)
