New Mapper Feedback Queue

Get feedback on your map from ranked mappers who are learning to become mentors!

THIS IS A FEEDBACK QUEUE, NOT A MOD QUEUE: IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE, BUT IF YOU ONLY WANT MODS, YOU SHOULD LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE
Rules

1. Beginner Mappers only!
We will not be modding things like metadata, spread, etc. While these aspects are undoubtedly important for ranking a map, our goal is to improve you as a mapper, not the map.

2. Be Open to Feedback, and Prepared for Criticism
We are not here to tell you that your map is amazing. We're here to help you improve. That usually includes some hard truths.

3. No 'meme', 'aim-training', obnoxiously difficult 10*+ jump spam maps, etc.
If you didn't genuinely try your best to make a map and/or aren't genuinely trying to improve, we genuinely won't (and can't) help you.

4. Your map must be finished.
This may seem silly, but there are a lot of aspects of maps that are okay in isolation but problematic when put into the context of the rest of the map. A verse being difficult often doesn't make sense if the chorus is really easy, for example. Do note, however, that hitsounds and spreads are not required.
About this program
This is an initiative as a part of the Community Mentorship Program's "Graduation Program" where experienced mentors teach experienced mappers and modders how to, well, mentor. As a result, the kind of feedback you will be receiving closely mirrors the kind of feedback a mentor may provide you.

The people who will be providing you feedback are chaser01 and ThunderBird2678

The mentors are Mizunashi Akari
How can I trust the feedback?
The feedback you receive will be reviewed by both Mizunashi Akari and -White. All the mentees have several ranked maps, and are very familiar with the ranking process. Each have been handselected to participate in this program. The goal of the feedback you receive is to better enable you, as the mapper, to create the kinds of maps that you want.

Both Mizunashi Akari and -White have been mentors and organizers in the Official Community Mentorship Program for several cycles and have successfully mentored several mappers of their own. -White served as a Beatmap Nominator for ~6 months before resigning.

Preferences
No preferences, all mapping styles are welcome!
Requesting Process

Step 1: Link your map

Step 2: Include any other information you want us to consider when looking at your map.
Did you attempt a gimmick? Did you attempt to copy a style? Is there a specific aspect of the map you want us to focus on, such as rhythm or patterning? Anything that would help us tailor our feedback to what you were trying to do.

Step 3: Note in your post how you'd like to receive your feedback
There is a few options for feedback: Modding Discussion Page, Voice Chat through Discord, or osu/Discord direct message (text). Please note one or more options for how you'd like to receive that. If you do not specify, we will default to Discussion Page.

Step 4: Profit

If you have any questions, please send one of the mentors involved a message in osu/Discord DMs

Be sure to check out the Community Mentorship Program and apply as a mentee if you're looking to learn from a vetted and experienced mapper. Applications are currently closed, but check back in ~2 months for more information. You will even be able to apply to the Junior Mentors listed here when they are promoted to full fledged Mentors!

Read last post for more applicable information before sending your request.

My main goal was to try and make my level feel unique to me, something I'd play and enjoy. My main concern is if others besides myself find the level engaging, and enjoyable to play.

I guess my three questions to do with my level would be:
-Do any of the parts of my level feel janky/unfair
-Do the default hitsounds hurt my level
-And if my map is ready to try and get ranked? If not what should I workk on?

Feedback is fine in modding discussion, thank you!

background: I made my first finished map (beatmapsets/1834052#osu/3765206) recently and the feedback I got was to use the whole playarea and also to not center my whole map around the middle of the playfield, but to break down the playfield in smaller areas and move between those. I tried to apply that to my new map and hope to get more feedback on how to improve as a mapper. I try to go for creative and fun patterning. This map in particular I would say is inspired by moph mapping.

Far from the first map, but in this style I do it for the first time. Most of all I want to know what is wrong with the visual part of the map: where are the bad overlaps, bad flow, patterns and so on. Only in map discussions. Thank you!

2. I've been trying to go for a 2012 style of mapping. For the hard diff I am thinking of changing the AR to 8 though since a lot of people (6 digits) are struggling to pass the map.

Map Link: beatmapsets/1841232

Description: Single difficulty [KurbyMIX], I tried a gimmick where circles are stacked and movement can only happen when a stack is finished or if the next object is a slider, as well as having circles in corners when a specific, *nuclear* sound is played. Lastly, the map is supposed to get harder over time. Might be a messy description but while playing you'll fully understand what is happening :p

Forms of contact: Best if its on discord, or if you want, osu chat or discussion page, I check both frequently

Thank you!

hi!

I am pretty new to Osu still even though I joined back in 2018, let alone mapping, however it looks very fun and I thought I would give it a go... this is my first map, so I welcome all criticism/feedback as much as possible so I can further improve from your guidance!<3

Discussion page should be fine, thanks a lot guys!

1) beatmapsets/1853898#osu/3809593

2) No gimmicks. I don't think I did super horribly for rhythm so maybe patterned focused feedback is best. (although please point out if I made any big rhythm "no nos") I kinda tried to copy SnowNiNo's style a little, I really like how he does patterns.

3) I am open to all methods of receiving feedback: discussion page, discord, dms. Whatever is most convenient for you!

4) Profit!

In this map I tried to focus on the vocals, wanted to get feedback on how well I did that and if it's a good idea to do that at all. Patterns are feel kind of weird sometimes too, would love feedback on those.

Feedback option: osu! Discussion page or discord DM Yasdaskafraz#0494

So this is my attempt to completely map more than 3*. I just want to know if the rhythm or patterning I use actually good or need some improvement. I kinda want some feedbacks from this map to see do I actually doing good on this map.

If you guys don't mind, I would like to take a feedback via Modding Discussion Page since I guess it is easier for me to track things.

Thank you!

This is my first attempt at trying to map basically a long stream map, which is my favorite type of map to play. While I have mapped a buncha graveyarded maps, this also my first attempt at trying to seriously map something, polish it up really nice, and get into the ranked section. I already have gotten some feedback from other players and mappers, so (I think) I've fixed the basic issues with the map (lack of playfield usage, patterning/structure, rhythm choice, etc.). I do think however that there's still a lot to improve about the map, so I will take any and all feedback so I can hopefully get this map into the ranked section one day!

Modding discussion page would be preferable, thanks!
