Here they are! The numbers in each difficulty name are the score they received. That way you can sort them by that and play them in order from the zeros to the heros... or the other way around!

Infected Mushroom - Pink Nightmares
Kurosaki Maon - Fuss Fuzz
Tomoya Ohtani - Rooftop Run (classic)

Alright, so sorting by difficulty name doesn't seem to be a thing. It still shouldn't be hard to play them in score order though!
Good job,I just down all Fuss Fuzz XD

Maybe next time use that game menu image announcement to announce that a beatmapping contest is going on instead of using the website to announce it under the main page. Not everyone looks at the website let alone the main page. They usually just go and get beatmaps or use multiplayer to get new maps. Just remember how quickly OWC twitch channel got viewers when it was added to the main menu.

I think people are less interested on beatmapping rather than playing.

Or maybe they didn't like the song selections/rules/whatever. Who knows?

Good point but i'm sure many of those people who don't use the site often won't really know how to map, especially given the time period you have to do it in? The twitch was more successful because it was aimed towards players, whom there are more of as inverness mentioned and not as much work as mapping i'd think
though spreading the news is good anyway lol

For upcoming contests, judgement procedure and general setup will be very different. Hopefully we can improve next contests with these changes.

Stay tuned.

Well,

Personally, I didn't even realize this contest existed until RLC told me like 4 days in. I might have figured it later, but I didn't check the forums and the main page that much. iirc, Beatmap contest #3 was actually advertised in osu! and I'm pretty sure it did help it get recognition. It probably didn't attract that many people, but it definitely helps imo.
Charles445
The reason the contest didn't attract many people is mainly because of the requirement to make a full set. A lot of people in this competition made a difficulty and promptly got bored. You can see a lot of the failed submissions uploaded for graveyard.
A single difficulty competition would see far more entries, the only downside being the winners wouldn't be immediately ranked.

Also, two of the songs needed a tad more work to them. Rooftop Run was quite long and Pink Nightmares had a tough repetitive beats section halfway through. Fuss Fuzz' length was solid, although the swing beat probably threw mappers off.
Ayu
Pretty much agreeing with Charles there.
[Luanny]
I am almost sure that was because of the songs lol
The idea was nice tho, one videogame song, one anime song and one electronic song to make everyone happy
Just the choice was... weird
All the songs should have at least almost the same lenght to be fair lol

btw I hope we can have a storyboard contest soon :3
HanzeR
Im not very good at mapping, but personally I didn't make any entry because well, I didn't like any of the songs, 2 of the songs were LONG and repetitive, and mapping hard/normal difficulties. For a mapping contest, rankability seems like a pretty silly thing to judge on.

Not to mention I hadn't even heard of the contest until several weeks in.

Anyways congrats to the winners, all of these maps are pretty impressive in their own right.
fartownik
Well, the Sonic song was obviously not a good choice, but the 2 remaining ones were pretty fun to map. Next time the songs should be picked via genre, not theme I guess (i.e. "anime" category should be just "japanese"). Also every aspect of the picks should be thought off thoroughly so the songs fit everyone's mapping taste.
Soaprman
It really is kind of baffling that Rooftop Run wasn't cut. If I modded a map of that, I'd probably ask the mapper to edit a loop out of the mp3. Was it to test mappers' ability to handle repetition or something? To me, some of the incomplete maps for that song indicate a good judgment call on how long a map of that song should be. I'd probably have given them bonus points for that.

Length aside, though, it's a pretty good song choice. A shorter version would be fun to map, I think.

I like that some of the judges were willing to comment on incomplete/unrankable mapsets. I kind of wanted to enter but didn't because I wasn't sure I could make a full mapset I'm happy with in the given amount of time. Seeing the comments though kind of encourages me to enter next time. Hopefully it's not too far away!

Also, the map pickers should really look into BPM and the how the song could be mapped.

We could have a song similar to Pink Nightmares, slow but complex rhythm. We could then have some relatively fast-paced and relatively streamy map (not so much that the whole thing is a death stream tho LOL). And then we could have maybe some average J-pop map.

One flaw I see is that it's not just the genre of the music, but also the fact that the beatmaps chosen are not completely different in the way that they will be mapped. I mean the most clear example would be streamy maps vs. non-streamy maps. But there could be other things to consider like songs that have very epic parts and very soft parts vs. songs that generally stay about the same epicness level.

Well that's just a rough idea.
Loctav
Next beatmap contest will be done with user created songs along with a composing contest right before it.

So the most popular compositions will be mapped for the contest.
I hope this idea works out good.
[Luanny]
...wow
that will be awesome as fuck lol

also make storyboard contest for the winner maps hue

People won't map because not enough animu.
Stefan
^ that truth
Soaprman
Someone just needs to compose anime music.

chance is high that the winning song (determined by its popularity) will be liked by majority and therefore would also be liked to be mapped by many :P

I will state my opinion on the low number of contestants

There is definitely enough beatmappers on Osu! to create a larger number than this. I don't think it was lack of notification as most active beatmappers are usually updated on the announcements. I believe the mapper choose not to take part. It's either they didn't like the songs, had their own maps to tend for, or anything else. Personally I did not participate as I thought that there would be too much competition, but turns out there wasn't. Really the way to fix this problem is to make the competition more attractive. At least give more time for submission as it's 3 diffs. And maybe there could be a link to the results of the previous year's results when you announce the next contest so people will get an idea of the standard they're facing ^^

But yea, that's all I got to say ._.

these mappers be dope

Thanks, I was going to do something like this, but it turns out I don't need to^^

I already played all Fuss songs, to see how other people mapped it, and in my heart, wcx19911123 took first place, fartownik and Lesjuh second and Xgor third =)

Concerning the rules, I think it is totally normal not to allow skins, storyboard or backgrounds. However, I don't think that applies for custom hitsounds. Because hitsounds have a direct effect on the map and are not only exterior or decoration. Some mapping styles might not sound good unless they have their special hitsounds. So I think that rule should be re-thought about.

Congratulations to all!

fffffuuuu... im still 4th there D:
[Luanny]
There was enough time imo. Just some mappers decided to finish their maps in the last week.
Kert
You didn't participate, you can't tell.
Though the main problem was not the amount of time, but the exams and everything in June

I know people who participated and I follow this thread.

Exams are always. Exams are here in August, in other countries in July, in others in June, others in May, April, March, February, September, October (like I have exams in October, even if others do have them in August).

That's how it works and can never be avoided. I can't imagine any contest where no one hopped in and said "NOT THIS TIME, ITS EXAMS TIME" D:
Kert
In my view one possible way to partly avoid this is to make time interval before deadline around 1 month+week or 2 weeks more (like it was changed this time)
Exam sessions rarely last for a whole month, don't they? So even if most of the time is occupied, there still will be those spare weeks to finish the mapset
peppy
All prizes have been awarded. Congratulations again to the winners. Hope to run another one of these soon with bigger scale.
Tsukiro
Hooray for the winner!! :D

Heheh last place, no surprises there. I never mapped before, and I never knew there was a distance snap. ^^ Time to practice! :D

I am actually proud of the way my maps turned out. Although I do not recognize some (most) of the mappers, I feel pretty good as to where I ranked.
Congrats to all who participated, especially the winners (it was a no brainer Lesjuh would receive a high score, but Xgor seems to really improved as a mapper since I saw him last).

Why aren't you guys mapping regular maps?
The beatmap approval system wasn't working for me at the time. If you're really asking, I was about to make an entire paragraph of why I disapprove of the ranking system. Not really because of the BATs and mods, part of it was me being busy outside of osu! and the frequency of how much my pending maps actually got modded.

And lastly, I agree with Charles about the reason the submissions were quite low. It would be a good idea to have the community take part in the song suggestions (I think it was like that for a previous contest (?)), where users can vote or make suggestions for the song choices.
