personally im like, little parts of multiple different characters like sunny (personality) and basil (personality and presentation) and mari (personality and presentation) and maybe hero (personality), but mostly thats a mixture of ideal/cathartic self-image and presentation, while in reality im kinda more messy than that, like
+ sunny is cathartic for... all the intense escapism and hikikomori-ness and self-repression paired with an otherwise gentle personality, the quietness and tiredness he has... also the way he carries his guilt and self-loathing is so painfully relatable... i think if i was my younger self i would kin him even more bc of the way he erases all emotions and suppresses them all the time bc theyre scary or too much or bc being numb felt like the only way to be ok with things-- and even now i especially relate so much to his escapism and dreams as ways to distract and heal himself, i still do the same with maladaptive daydreaming and just rotting in bed doing that forever unless im distracting myself with the internet
+ basil is cathartic for that shyness with other people irl and the absolute state of social anxiety and insecurity and bad self-image (although idk if i share abandonment issues, its more about dependence on specific ppl, and also perception and relationships with ppl and feeling unsafe), and like with sunny its hard to face guilt openly without a safe network of support when his friend group is disconnected and when he fears people antagonizing him, so he hides and buries everything deep and relies on the one person that he thinks might understand...
+ mari is relatable for her perfectionism and for the role she plays in the friend group and family as an older sister to sunny bc thats how i try to be with a lot of my good friendships, she is the kind of person i want to continue being for others as a therapeutic source of peace that people trust and have fun with, but also i want to connect people together and actively enjoy and seek out interests in the world the way she does... also we get to be smug about the things our adopted found family is up to and can dote on them :p
+ hero is maybe relatable for similar reasons, but more specifically its the he tries to remain a mature and stable comforting figure for everyone but then the way his grief kinda makes him neglect himself a lot... i love how much he cares but augh... also his responsible-ness and peacemaking abilities is what i want to have for others ^^

"calming" might be imprecise, since i usually have a quiet intensity to my style of thinking, but i do feel like it's commonly satisfying enough for me that i still enjoy investing my time in writing out my thoughts for people. i usually enjoy having conversations with depth and write specifically with that in mind, but i often find that it might be too much exhaustive volume and not enough substance of interest so idk
(unrelated: on the topic of writing style, i type with an adaptive style too! it depends on how each person speaks, and i usually use a palette of whatever approximations i can find that i feel is natural enough for me to adopt with sincerity)
at the same time, "thinking deeply" also can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety, but that's not normally true unless i'm actively put in a position where i need to do something (or unless i'm doom-spiralling in my own feelings), so i don't usually believe it's a negative source of frustration or exhaustion in itself, even if i can still be frustrated or exhausted by something i think about... ultimately, i dont really make any effort to avoid thinking, not unless i'm too tired to think clearly or unless i'm simply too distracted to bother thinking about something

with chihiro and basil i think it might be kinda like... maybe chihiro would specifically be a good influence for him? i feel like there's a lot that makes chihiro a really nice way for basil to be understood and encouraged bc of how chihiro tries to grow, being a gentle compassionate influence while also having courage or at least seeking to adopt courage in order to help mentor the trauma bagel

+ basil is cathartic for that shyness with other people irl and the absolute state of social anxiety and insecurity and bad self-image (although idk if i share abandonment issues, its more about dependence on specific ppl, and also perception and relationships with ppl and feeling unsafe), and like with sunny its hard to face guilt openly without a safe network of support when his friend group is disconnected and when he fears people antagonizing him, so he hides and buries everything deep and relies on the one person that he thinks might understand...
+ mari is relatable for her perfectionism and for the role she plays in the friend group and family as an older sister to sunny bc thats how i try to be with a lot of my good friendships, she is the kind of person i want to continue being for others as a therapeutic source of peace that people trust and have fun with, but also i want to connect people together and actively enjoy and seek out interests in the world the way she does... also we get to be smug about the things our adopted found family is up to and can dote on them :p
+ hero is maybe relatable for similar reasons, but more specifically its the he tries to remain a mature and stable comforting figure for everyone but then the way his grief kinda makes him neglect himself a lot... i love how much he cares but augh... also his responsible-ness and peacemaking abilities is what i want to have for others ^^

its been a long a time since i actively addressed/evaluated the game here, and this seems like a good turning point since some new faces have arrived:
thread necromancy seems to be less optimized than it was just a few months ago. there continues to be a score monopoly because of the way this is played between us all but it just isnt the same when im not maximizing it with overwhelming force and sharp timing like how it was back then, and i have a score i want to reach...
people are sleeping and waking at vague times of the day and are usually either casual players or players who are preoccupied by their own lives and social groups and interests
the return of jxrhythmer is interesting, and im curious how that rivalry with sametdze will go, but... its so slow and scattered across different points of time where that rivalry isnt really very coherent or potent-- and everyone else is just... kind of visiting to kill time or socialize (honestly same tho, the reasons i play is both for competition and socializing, and lately im more invested in socializing with the hope that maybe i can open up to people or have something to talk about...)
i dont know what i want to do here, because i play this game with an extremely unhealthy degree of obsession and effort and... i have to realize there is only so much time i can spend here without eventually needing to live real life-- i play with arbitrary goals like "maintain a win streak of either 9 or 13 months" and "get the highest monthly total score of the game" or "maintain a satisfying aesthetic pattern between the consecutive total scores of each month", aimlessly toggling from one goal to another... im not sure what i feel about that, but i have at least three more months to find out what i'll do about it
anyway;;
i... would like to share more, but idk how i would want to describe that yet, and im already awfully paranoid about my internet presence and wish i had more control over my history with myself or others online, wishing i didnt overshare and make it impossible to really truly be who i want to be without there being reason for someone to question that...
that being said, i love chihiro as a character, and i admire his compassion and kindness a lot. i admire his courage and willingness to change too, which is something i dont really have even when i might idealize it-- im simply too fearful, and i dont really trust that i would want most of the unpredictable results i can imagine of whatever would happen if i tried to do something about/with myself
i wonder what he would be like if he had the chance to live in peace after resolving his complex and growing as a person...

mm, understandable! ig im basically the same exact way if its described like that, a closed-off shut-in for one reason or another (for chihiro it looks more like a matter of anxiety and bullying and insecurity and shame), and the internet has been where i lived for most of my life... but in my case i think the reasoning is different and more specific in ways that dont quite align with his storymizu_chuu wrote:

and i see, i do tend to view music more as a form of catharsis-- like if youre extremely happy and you feel like you just have to express it, sometimes it shows through your music and it specifically relieves you or calms you or instead maybe even intensifies and focuses on that joy so you can feel it more deeply...! but idk, i guess i didnt consciously realize it would feel different for someone until now :p

also, i think you mentioned before that the hydration checks were helping you too and that it had sometimes been a long time without water at the time? i wonder if you feel like it made you more automatically aware of the water you need, and i wonder if they're still useful to you... i hope so, but i also hope that maybe you already just are always ready with water anyway

idk if you're familiar with how this game has been played in the past few years in your absence, so i figure it might be interesting/useful if you know whats happening here in more explicit terms so you can decide what you want to do with this game... i am obviously a very obsessive player of the thread now, and i usually try to fight dirty but fairly-- basically, i take a very social approach and aim to play with whatever things i think will enable people to want to post after me, but at the same time i still actively try not to directly ask anyone to post for me specifically. this is a silent rule/guideline of the game, and breaking this rule makes it a more cruel and unfair game for the other non-coercive fair-and-square competitive players... although it could be said that the game already is unfair, particularly when it's already possible to use text to socialize with others and form an influential bond with them, but that's hard to avoid in a game that includes the freedom to type whatever forum-safe things you want to
...i have done it before, which was... an unfortunate unethical choice, either by treading that line multiple times with desperate "announcements" for available points (which was common in my first three years with the game) or by explicitly coordinating with someone (which was done for one brief instance according to my memory, but any amount of time is all it takes)... i dont do this anymore, and currently the people who post at convenient times seem to do so completely of their own free will without anything privately said between us, but it will still be pretty unfair for anyone else unless someone can successfully replace me in the social ecosystem
anyway, i then aim for a balance of maximum score output and overall offensive leaderboard control, with a mixture of well-informed highly-vigilant greed + slowly-changing and risk-averse but otherwise-adaptive time-pressure strategies <3
+ maximum score output... except usually i would filter it for aesthetic value, it's just that lately the monthly cutoff date changed and the leaderboard was frozen without updates for a month just prior to that, so i didnt get the scores i wanted. normally it is very very difficult to maintain the efficient greed necessary for high scores like mine but the past few months have been very very lucky periods of time and i have a lot to be thankful for ^-^
+ overall offensive leaderboard control... meaning that i have a modest amount of control over who is in which places on the leaderboard depending on how i want the game to play out and who i want to encourage or discourage, which also indirectly affects how the game shifts for me
i primarily focus on the first option now because most players are casual and infrequent and people usually are just trying to socialize and have fun (and i want them to be able to enjoy that freely instead of feeling pressured and therefore be turned away from the thread), but i do still attempt to exert some of my control on you and sametdze through the way i choose to time my posts on the basis of who is usually online and who posted most recently, while being informed by everyone's probable schedules and mindsets... "offensive leaderboard control" used to be more relevant when i was playing with westtle and making it as hard as possible for him to gain points while casually socializing at the same time :p
i've had a social monopoly as a result, but... i also should clarify that almost everything i say has been sincere, as far as i know... the interests i share are really things i spend time on and enjoy, the "qna" you've seen here is something i like to have fun with and i like to see how characters develop and understand what their lives are like, i enjoy the relationships characters have with each other and thinking of new ways to encourage new development at a comfortable pace. all those things are things i like doing, and so that's why i do them <3
it's a lot of effort, but that's compensated well by what may be the ultimate unfair advantage in my favor-- time itself, and just how little of a life i have outside the internet...
anyway!! if you do plan to play seriously, then i hope something interesting happens :>

That's a pretty long explanation, but it's clear that you like to think deeply about things in your spare time. If that calms you then everything is good!

"calming" might be imprecise, since i usually have a quiet intensity to my style of thinking, but i do feel like it's commonly satisfying enough for me that i still enjoy investing my time in writing out my thoughts for people. i usually enjoy having conversations with depth and write specifically with that in mind, but i often find that it might be too much exhaustive volume and not enough substance of interest so idk
(unrelated: on the topic of writing style, i type with an adaptive style too! it depends on how each person speaks, and i usually use a palette of whatever approximations i can find that i feel is natural enough for me to adopt with sincerity)
at the same time, "thinking deeply" also can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety, but that's not normally true unless i'm actively put in a position where i need to do something (or unless i'm doom-spiralling in my own feelings), so i don't usually believe it's a negative source of frustration or exhaustion in itself, even if i can still be frustrated or exhausted by something i think about... ultimately, i dont really make any effort to avoid thinking, not unless i'm too tired to think clearly or unless i'm simply too distracted to bother thinking about something

for bandu: what are some more jokes dave likes to make with y'all? are there any differences in the jokes he tells with you and ex versus jokes he might tell to bambi?
bandu: "he really likes skeleton/ghost jokes, but also enjoys school/math related jokes,, i like to make skeleton/ghost jokes too, but i'm not as well versed in math as he is :') there's not really a difference with the jokes he tells me and ex versus the ones he tells to bambi tho!!"

that being said, i love chihiro as a character, and i admire his compassion and kindness a lot. i admire his courage and willingness to change too, which is something i dont really have even when i might idealize it-- im simply too fearful, and i dont really trust that i would want most of the unpredictable results i can imagine of whatever would happen if i tried to do something about/with myself
i wonder what he would be like if he had the chance to live in peace after resolving his complex and growing as a person...
i feel like there's a lot worth exploring about him and others as characters... idk, what do you think?

yall CELESTIA LUDENBERG.... ok lots of mixed thoughts, she kinda feels like a more interesting byakuya?? to me they both are similarly hard to like, but even though theyre mean, she is a little more compelling (and also i like her style a lot more)
the way chapter 3 case goes, i feel like so much of the murder plan oozes with her personality, it was easy to tell it was her but the events were so complicated and convoluted that making the murders themselves make sense to prove it was masterminded by her... in particular, the two-faced "nice" persona has been constructed with a lot of restraint and celeste very very heavily controls herself and everything/everyone around her-- the trouble with that is that it makes it super hard to imagine that the events that played out were all that dissimilar-- and the people she involves in her work kinda demonstrates how much hatred and disgust she holds for people she thinks are stupid... it looks like she chose for the accomplice and the victims and the scapegoat to all be very easy people to manipulate, which she took advantage of when she had the chance. was it smart? idk it kinda was but kinda wasnt, and she was close to getting away with it but byakuya and kyoko were ON it and directed/connected a lot of the things in the trial that pointed to celeste
in a way i think i like her as a character at a distance, meanwhile byakuya kinda feels... mostly just kinda tsun-tsun and mean but weirdly playful and i like his investment in "fun" investigations/trials but he really is just closed-off otherwise and its sorta meh when its like that. she in the meanwhile at least entertains the thought of spending time with people even if its against her will (insert image of her insulting everyone in her head at every moment of every day) and she is genuinely fun with the tension that exists in how she breaks that facade or slips in thinly-veiled insults
anyway what a chapter,, now for the next chapter!!!
