I would also suggest that experienced storyboard coders team up with people who are good at drawing, for maximum Voltron-like awesomeness, but you're welcome to go in a different direction.

I meant that they were complicated for me to explain. I think the hardest part was "each person can only join one team and each team can only make one SB." If you can understand that you should be golden.Shinde wrote:

Technical Execution - The quality of the images (including reasonable filesizes and proper cropping), the quality of the code, and the performance of the SB

I couldn't remember the phrase "SB Load" when I was writing this, so thanks for that. That is what I meant by performance.

I might regret this later, but I'm going to go ahead and say go for it. Skinning is allowed. But it'll be one of those things that the judges aren't going to be judging directly, so it shouldn't impact your score unless it's so amazing or so terrible that it sways the "overall impression" rating. And try to limit it to skinning elements that are directly relevant to your SB, and not just meaningless flair.Astom wrote:

But yeah, making (or at least finding?) a background that goes with your SB is sort of part of the contest... I suppose if you make an SB that doesn't use or require a background image then you won't be penalized for not including one, but in cases like that it's generally preferred that you make some kind of "preview background" that gets shown on the song select menu, and then you can have it disabled during the map (Yes, I just made that thread so that I could link to it here. Needed to be done eventually).
If you end up just taking some wallpaper or fanart from a website, please make a note of where you got it from. Like I said before I don't think we need in-game credits (unless you want to add them), but I'm thinking that some kind of listing of sources will be required as part of the entry process. Not gonna be super picky, just need to be able to tell which elements are user-made and which elements come from elsewhere.

Looks like the judges will be myself, Card N'FoRcE, and jericho2442, if anybody was wondering about that.
Also if anybody wants to make a compelling argument that the deadline should be pushed back farther, now would be the better time to do that. Once we get close to the deadline I won't be willing to move it.

I request pushing the deadline; maybe by a month or two. Of course, I always request these, and sometimes I slack off too much that I ever get it completed to the new deadline, but I really want to try something out + I didn't get a chance to enter the mapping contest.
Anyways, I see that some people (including me) are working very slowly, I don't think I"ve seen any submissions, unless they are holding them back for some reason.

If the amount of submissions are low as of this point, then a deadline extension would be an ideal choice...
Over here, we haven't gotten to the actual work yet and are still in the planning stages. I don't know what this should say about work ethic, but if it seems that a good amount of the potential contenders don't seem to have things ready in time, then yeah...

I would also be in favor of a one month extension. I'm participating in the contest and haven't been able to make much progress yet either due to other obligations. I'm sure that the extra time would make us all happy. =)
Yeah I'm in the same situation as everybody, an extension will be perfect 
Two months to seriously buckle down and complete a storyboard would be enough time if I just put in 2 hours a night, but I've really been slacking off. I'm not going to beat around the bush, I've clocked almost 200 hours on P4. For those who are still in school (I'd wager 95% of the population at least) this gives the rest of summer vacation to work on it.
As for me, I just need to be more diligent. I'll make use of the time though, I promise that much.

How are people talking about the number of submissions? There are zero submissions because, unless I've missed something, there's no way to submit anything. But yeah, obviously nobody has posted a finished SB in this thread, so if people are actually working on stuff then I have no problem extending to a late-August deadline.
I'll update the first post of the thread tomorrow with the extension, along with the submission process and the confirmed judges.

Ideas for storyboards are very difficult unless you have complete control over the song you choose, and I didn't like any of the songs which is why I didn't bother signing up for serious.

Suggestion: Allow late submissions of up to 12 hours with a slight score penalty. After all, the contest has been running for a few months, it can wait another half day if necessary. It'd be prudent to give procrastinators just a bit more breathing room, if only to diversify the entry field. Because I don't think judging exactly one entry was what you were looking for.

I totally agree with ziin, ideas for SBs that aren't under your totally control is just hard, is not the same than make a diff., SB is much more close to creativity and make something creative from something than you probably don't fully like is realy hard.ziin wrote:

Congrats on the wins you two! I probably shouldn't have given up on ernst with 30 minutes left, but I felt it was cheesy to submit a joke SB which literally took me 3 hours to make/think up then win because I was unopposed.
I suggest if you do allow late entries, still grade them accordingly, but give the wins to the people who actually made it on time.
