NScripter.
Higurashi and Umineko are hard to get used to compared to some other VNs due to no voice acting and (let's admit it) sub-par artwork. If you try higurashi, I highly suggest getting the PS2 sprite patch, and read umineko later on and *keep reading*. Things are super boring until the end of Episode 1.Aisua wrote:
I'm actually pretty new to Visual Novels.
I've been playing Tsukihime and trying to get Fate/Stay to work---though I suppose I should try to get it on my own rather than rely on my friend to jump it from his computer to mine. (He has a tendancy of going 'Hey you gotta try this shit here!' which is actually why I'm into most of the out of country fandoms that I'm into.)
I've been interested in Umeneko and Higurashi after watching the anime.
After having read the Tsukihime VN, and watching the anime I wanna see how much better the VN is for Umeneko/Higurashi is. xD;
I actually enjoyed reading Umineko Episode 1 from start to finish. I didn't find it boring at all.Shiirn wrote:

This, really. It's slow-paced and deliberate, setting up a sense of tension while remaining calm the entire time, and using that lull to actually develop its characters and the politics of the Ushiromiya family.NoHItter wrote:

The first Episode was actually my favorite one.Shiirn wrote:

Complied. I also think I did it correctly, to boot!Neo@lex wrote:

For anyone that is serious about reading English-translated visual novels and wants some suggestions, Click Here.
Those are my votes on vndb, they're all for English-translated novels and are based upon general plot and intricacy (porn with plot stories are there as well, but of course are rated extremely low). Generally, anything above a 6 is worth trying out.
Muv-Luv isn't on there since I haven't read it, but it's got good reviews.
Thanks, I was about to post asking for references on good and translated visual novels since I don't know any besides Fate/Stay Night and Little Busters.Shiirn wrote:

Check it out ^
It's made by members of 4-chan, but in japanese-style. It's got great art, music and story and it's not ecchi/hentai. The full game will be released for free sometime this year, but there's a demo on their site now.
