I'm actually pretty new to Visual Novels.

I've been playing Tsukihime and trying to get Fate/Stay to work---though I suppose I should try to get it on my own rather than rely on my friend to jump it from his computer to mine. (He has a tendancy of going 'Hey you gotta try this shit here!' which is actually why I'm into most of the out of country fandoms that I'm into.)

I've been interested in Umeneko and Higurashi after watching the anime.

After having read the Tsukihime VN, and watching the anime I wanna see how much better the VN is for Umeneko/Higurashi is. xD;
Higurashi and Umineko are hard to get used to compared to some other VNs due to no voice acting and (let's admit it) sub-par artwork. If you try higurashi, I highly suggest getting the PS2 sprite patch, and read umineko later on and *keep reading*. Things are super boring until the end of Episode 1.

I actually enjoyed reading Umineko Episode 1 from start to finish. I didn't find it boring at all.

This, really. It's slow-paced and deliberate, setting up a sense of tension while remaining calm the entire time, and using that lull to actually develop its characters and the politics of the Ushiromiya family.

The first Episode was actually my favorite one.
NatsumeRin
*sigh, i don't know why you guys like general that much.

favourites:
Fate (mainly because of the world set, i don't like tsukihime that much though)
Little Busters! (don't need to say much)
Ever 17 (Story.)
Kite
I've only played Brave Soul (a few years ago), gameplay and story were cool~

Tsukihime seems to have an interesting story though

I found tsukihime, Ever17 and Clannad boring...

Complied. I also think I did it correctly, to boot!

Leaving this in the Otaku board because VNs don't seem like they fit in the video game section anyway (they're primarily reading material, right? Visual Novels?)
Colin Hou
my fav for now:
Yosuga no Sora/Haruka no Sora (excellent illustrator :3)
CLANNAD (story/charactors this game made me think about many things about life)
Natteke
I started reading ever17 like half a year ago and I've only finished tsugumi's ending so far :D
xFreezingx
I like DC series a lot <3
senaya
Well, my first vn was Ever17 back in the 2006, I think, and I actually bought that game. It had a crappy software-translated Russian version and a decent English version, that was probably the point when I decided to switch to English releases of everything anime-related.

I'm also willing to buy vns so if you happen to know where I can order a delivery to Moldova (crappy small post-USSR country in Eastern Europe) please PM me (amazon and e-bay don't do it). Thank you.
Tenshi-nyan
I read Edelweiss, KiraKira, Planetarian and Little Busters! (what's been translated so far) until now.
I still have Fate/Stay Night, Clannad, Kanon and Air somewhere on my computer, but I don't really have the will to read them since I watched the Anime for each of them D:
Arusha Shuna
let's see, i got some VN, most of em' are H and got deleted, i'll try to remember some of them...

Edelweiss
X-Change 3/alternative
Gadget Trial (i dunno if this even called VN, but it is a part of the game)
Phoenix Wright
Hinata Bokko

and i forgot the rest, i gotta stop reading VNs that has H-scene 5 minutes after it starts. Maybe i'll try more non-H VN or has no rape scene at all, that kind of VN is crap and it always is

maybe i'll try well-known VN like CLANNAD, ever17 or type-moon series later after i have more time in my hands

For anyone that is serious about reading English-translated visual novels and wants some suggestions, Click Here.

Those are my votes on vndb, they're all for English-translated novels and are based upon general plot and intricacy (porn with plot stories are there as well, but of course are rated extremely low). Generally, anything above a 6 is worth trying out.

Muv-Luv isn't on there since I haven't read it, but it's got good reviews.

Thanks, I was about to post asking for references on good and translated visual novels since I don't know any besides Fate/Stay Night and Little Busters.

I really liked Fate, but I played Little Busters for some time and found it quite boring... it looks plotless. >.>

Edit: jesus christ that's really a lot. And to think it took me months to play Fate/Stay Night... well, I did play all of the routes but even so...

There's even more english VNs out as of recent, several of them (Shield 9, TH2 off the top of my head).

I refuse to let this sit on the back burner.
Faust
Hahah. Took me 3 days on each route for F/SN. It was delicious.
Hijiri Tezuka

Fate/Zero. 8-)
TheParody
http://katawa-shoujo.com/

Check it out ^
It's made by members of 4-chan, but in japanese-style. It's got great art, music and story and it's not ecchi/hentai. The full game will be released for free sometime this year, but there's a demo on their site now.

Generic thread bump because this is relevant to my interests.

A few of my favourite VNs thus far:
  1. Aiyoku no Eustia
  2. G Senjō no Maō
  3. Maji de watshini Koishinasai!
  4. Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shōjo (inclusive of the fan disc)
I love most of Akabeisoft's titles but it's a shame that outside of Japan IP addresses are denied access to their homepage due to the whole (pointless) crap happened a year or so ago.
Some other companies jumped on the same band wagon by banning international IPs also but I forget which exactly.

In regards to the JAST official releases I'm hoping they release Eien no Aselia with a a higher resolution at least.
Faust
I was hoping to get Kara no Shoujo, but then SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHHHH.

Playing Sharin no Kuni and G-Senjou no Maou currently.

Waiting on Fate/Hollow Ataraxia's latest patch.

I raged so much when I found out that Minori blocked gaijins from accessing their homepage.

well, at least they have something like this now.

waiting for Eien no Aselia and Majikoi to get finished. Also waiting for Eng release of School days.

playing canvas 2 and re-playing remember11.

prepare for disappointment on G-senjou no maou.

F/HA's Ilya's Castle mini-game really amused me.

Heh. I like to be surprised.

I take things as they come. It's well-written and I'm always looking forward to it.
YGOkid8
