It actually is possible for Google Drive to scan for viruses, b uht you'd probably need chrome and a 3rd party extension to do so, but the extension, in a sense, would scan the file for viruses. With that aside, I think that MediaFire is the only service that scans for viruses when you upload a file, but it does not scan while downloading. So, in closure, you're right, but it is still possible to get some form of extension that scan downloaded files, but most likely only on Chrome.

Hey can I contribute? Right now I've added 5:4 and 4:3 aspect ratio.
Is the Watch Replay button supposed to be this small?

There was high demand for Standard aspect ratios, so it'll be really nice to see it done. Not sure what OP says tho.
and yes, watch replay this small. It has a huge hitbox tho, so with muscle memory you can still hit it

    Pink has now been fully patched. Well, at least to my knowledge

Also the Green image seems to be fine? I do notice some distortion on the top of that row though. I'll clear caches and see whats up.

Anyway, I don't actually have OCD, I'm more of a perfectionist. I guess I shouldn't use that term.

And yes, most of the distortions are fixed. Thanks to the people who brought them up!

NIGHTGATE PINK FEEDBACK IMPLEMENTED
- added option for pink only combo colours
- Fixed mania combo tinting

Additional Fixes:
- More refined line above the scoreboard at song select, now more 'pink' instead of white, and sharper too
- Refined buttons have a dark shade to them to enhance their visibility with lighter backgrounds
- A better menu background added.
- Multi elements refined. Better multi-skip and ranking-winner frame.
- Fixed a preferences error where the numbered option had a space after the name.
new setup for 4:3 and 5:4 screens is being tested!

Please download and check for any misaligned or odd elements. I appreciate feedback!

whoa, I don't think it's the mac issue. Thats a new issue i haven't seen before.

what system and skin are you running on?, and did you change up any settings before the screenshot? (macfix, screen ratio, any preferences)

Thats not really a problem with using fallback, thats just a problem of people not sticking to the recommanded sizes

@DaPrimeAtce is patching up Red and Orange quite well. Red will be out next after we fix a small amount of options up. Reply +1 for red to get me to post a link to download the current progress

Personally I use the 16:9 ratio, and I have tried a few times before to contact -yuo- about those two bugs, but I heard anything specifically about these bugs being fixed... yet

So is there any way to request certain features for this skin? I really like almost everything i'm seeing, but i'm a orb-skin based player, and bar-style isn't something I can do effectively, however, this whole entire skin is just amazing looking.

I'm assuming you're referring to Mania.

Unfortunately, as much as I would love to cover circle mania, it would take up quite some time. (I'm sure i'm famous for complaining about my lack of time so here you go)

This would need a complete redesign of how Nightgate's mania works so it's basically skinning the whole thing from scratch. _time_ consuming adding to the fact that lots of design has gone into all the alignments and over-spacing of stuff to achieve the minimalistic look.

I can see where you want to go with this, but making a orb-skin for mania would be, as already said, be very time consuming.
It is possible, no doubt. Maybe even I could make the orb-skin addition, if I had time.

My take on things is that you have to put in effort to do things, instead of always relying on other people.

My opinion about the current mania bar-skin, from a mania players perspective who plays with bar-skin, is that it's fine.
Though I'd rather use a more simplistic skin for denser maps. There's just too much going on with the hitlight.
I manually set the ColorLightX to 0,0,000 for that.

Another thing I'd fix is to set the ColorX to 0,0,0,255. It simply distracts too much if you don't play with 100% dim.

Thanks for the feedback. Have you not seen the preferences? I think theres a less-flashy hitlight in there. If you have, what would you put in for a hitlight? I think I might be able to implement because hitlights are pretty easy to put in. (i’m more scared of uploading the change though because updates are a pain)

also, what’s ColourX and what does that do?

I 100% agree with that. I'd be more than okay with taking the attempt and uploading my own changes if the post and skin creator agrees, I don't want to take creative liberty with someone else's work without that okay though.

    I still need to implement these changes to GREEN.


The alignment of the dotted followpoints change as the CS changes (I think. Maybe it's just HR, but I can't fix this issue as this is osu's fault.)

Editing the mania background to become darker is too time consuming (desperate for time) so I'll leave that as it is. People would just use background dim anyway.

Finally got my homework done. I only have one day till I get a stack more though. Enjoy my intensive care!

Yeh, it was patched by DaPrimeAtce using hue shift method so colours are probably not that precise.

But well, it works and it’s a decently high standard don’t you think?

I haven’t had much problems woth rebrandly, maybe it’s unsafe because people do dodgy things with it... Tell me if theres an issue though. I just use it to cound downloads and thats all.

If you want something more reliable that can track downloads I recommend you use MediaFire instead.

Then their page pops up ads everywhere, and the actual download button is reletivley hard to find.

Not to mention, half the time the link doesn't work if you upload to MediaFire.

It's actually possible to get direct download link by inspecting the download button. But it's extremely unreliable. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just redirects you back to the download page. Basically it's a mess.

Same goes with Mega, Good presentation, no ads (well, they advertise themselves a lot which is the same level of annoying), but downloading is weird and no direct again.

Dropbox was great. It had an easy direct download link, automatic with no UI, no ads, easy download, no weird GDrive Virus Scanning. It was the best one and was my previous system but it's download limit of 20GB/day and a ban for a week if it's reached left many users unable to download. (which, i'm quite proud of but also annoyed at. Thanks everyone!)

That's because MEGA uses end to end encryption. The file is stored on their servers in encrypted form, and they can't decrypt it unless they have the key (which they don't). When you download a file, it's decrypted on your computer, not on their servers. So yeah, no direct.

Ah, that's cool. Mega imo is pretty good for personal / person-to-person use, but not so much in the case of skinning (person-to-world)... Encryption wouldn't really do much

  • Not much has changed, but I've merged my new multi designs and new menu buttons. Also fixed the info panel (ish, date says 8 not 10 because thats when I did them, and it's such a tedious task to fix so I'm not gonna do it for a silly 8.)

Yes, Nightgate Orange is nearly ready, It's being bugfixed at the moment. The plan between me and DaPrimeAtce:

DaPrimeAtce converts the rest of Red and Orange files, Preferences especially.
I scan through his work to fix bugs and visual anomalies, also add my recent design improvements.

Together we aim to finish Red and Orange sometime soon. I'm sniping my homework the moment they come at me. Lets Go!!

Yeah, the encryption is good if you want to transfer private information, but skins aren't really that private anyway. I have to say the only reason that I use MEGA was the 50 GB of storage.

We're working to finish the preferences folder for red and get Orange up to beta currently.

the skin is amazing the only problem i have is that the slider circle is too big and the spinner is too distracting. If you could make the slider follow circle smaller and maybe tone down the spinner brightness or take out some elements of the spinner it will be perfect. Also the slider sound is pretty distracting and you could tone down a bit the colors for the 100, 50, and the miss and maybe make them a bit smaller. If you decide to change this pls do it for the pink version too i liked it the most

Have you tried the skin’s preferences (settings) system?

Open the skin folder and you’ll see a 2 - Preferences folder.

I think you’ll find most of what you want in there -
- less slider ball
- less spinner
- different hitbursts

yeh just take a look!

Note: Unofficially coloured and beta colours do not have this just yet.

well, it's not really some, but one, middle2 in minimal spinner
and for some reason there's rpm, clear and spin images in detailed spinner idk why it should be there

Just thought I'd post a fun fact here:
I wanted to explain this since long ago, but never actually got to it.
I've heard many 'complaints' about the spinner being ultra distracting. This is intentional as it's designed to grab your attention when it appears AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. This is why theres a giant SPIN! text, elements that are waay out from the middle and four 'inverted corners' pointing to the middle of the spinner.
This makes you able to recognise the spinner in a SNAP and results in less 'recognition lag' between you, noticing the spinner appear and you actually knowing what to do and spin it.

Of course though, there's the options if you want to dial it down a little.

again, there's a combo color that is the same as the main color, this is very noticable with 90% ring <-- thank goodness for alternative colors in skin.ini
ctb colors in skin.ini are green

All of these issues are in red?

Also, All red combo colours are intentional. Multicolours looked very bad with red, but Maybe i'll differentiate the shades a bit more.

    The reason it's cream and not white is to make the cursor and cursor-movement elements stand out. In this skin, white stands for things that relate to your cursor. If the whole skin is white, you cannot relate white to cursor movements.

    It's kind of like: White = the path you are meant to take.
    Everything you see in this skin, including weird design choices like a massive spinner, combo colours and cream colour is designed to enhance readability of osu to optimise your human vision.

Here's some small details you might have missed:
  1. the mode selection text says NIGHTGATE CYAN BETA
  2. taiko-drum-inner is completely flipped
  3. scorebar-colour is not aligned with scorebar-bg
  4. Fade In's canvas gets in the way of Sudden Death, which may cause inconvenieces for mania players

I get that popup too, it mainly happens if the file is over 100mb. (or something around that size?)
I'm not too sure why it does that, maybe you know why?

The version panel is edited directly from my PSD and not converted from the other colours. I guess I forgot to change the 'CYAN' from my last save though.
The rest of the skin is converted from green.

Here's an issue I encountered while trying to download Nightgate Cyan and Yellow on Google Chrome:

Problem: "Google Chrome has blocked this file because it could be harmful to your PC."

How I had to work around this error: I had to go to my Chrome downloads area and click "Keep file" which caused a popup saying "Keep dangerous file?" with the buttons "Yes" and "No" and so obviously I clicked "Yes" or else Chrome would have discarded the file.

Cause: The files uploaded were not OSK files, they were ZIP folders.

So here's a suggestion perhaps: Maybe try exporting them as an OSK file instead? (The problem is only with those two skins, I had no problem downloading Cream/White.

(Now I know what h3oCharles was talking about

UPDATE: I was looking at the other skin.ini files, and I'm starting to wonder if this:

Until I get a response from -yuo-, I'm just going to replace those colours with the default ones, and I'm going to save the text for these other colours onto my desktop.

Just fixed the zip files in the downloads. Hopefully they are all good now

The red-themed combo colours are intentional for red. Other colours introduced glare and distracted away from the darkness to red.

Red is not detected by the cones in our eyes. When our eyes look at something dark, the cones are relaxed and become inactive. The rods then go dominant over the cones and start sensing the dim light. When you interrupt this with a brighter colour, this is reset and red becomes 'darker' again. Red is frequently used in UI for pilots and stargazing, since it doesn't reset our night vision. When a brighter colour is introduced, the eye will become less sensitive to red.

This was the reason why i chose to keep the combo colours red, to reduce glare. It also changes where you align the approach circle with the hitcircle. Since the combo colour is brighter than red, you may tend to align the approach circles with the inside of the hitcircle instead of the red border.

Well that's the main reason behind the all-red colours, i'm not sure if it's working well though. I'll probably need more testing.

Aandd here's another one. I recorded the entire process of recolouring this one so maybe i'll upload it somewhere in the future.

  • Got blue done. I heard this is a long awaited one, so I hope it's good enough.

    I'm very unsure about the combocolours and the deepness of the blue in general. Although it seems a little dark to see, I actually did better when playing compared to white. I think it's because the cursor and the white cursor elements stand out really well...

    If they really don't work out then maybe as a last priority i'll recolour it a little lighter and add refinements.

    I'd also like to note that I haven't really tested the new colours a heap because my main goal here is to just get them DONE. I have a massive stack of homework to do so i thought i'd blast through this to clear my mind a little. Maybe when I get that work done I'll come back and refine, but main goal right now is to get the colours usable and bug free. (not nessesarily ultra-refined.)


Who knew skinning could be so tiring... Well, just purple and bugfixes to go!

  • A Nightgate Red bugfix.

    - CTB colors in skin.ini are green - fixed
    - Redone combo colours. This time I actually tested them. Ended up with the ones you see when you update (pink, yellow, cyan, purple). (orange, green were removed from the cycle as green/red looked horrible, and orange didn't provide enough contrast with the red, making the approach circles blend in)
    - Preferences cursor smoke folder had a redundant folder inside it. Removed.

just opened the skin folder to find out that you are missing slidertick and sliderwhistle sounds

orange - not sure about yellow combo color, and I feel like follow circles are more brown than orange
blue - thx for burning my eyes, not sure about cyan and purple colors
red - purple seems too dark for me

and might be too late for these:
- disable the cursor glow and the cursor itself looks jagged
- white slider balls are transparent... why?

EDIT1: Red in skin.ini
MenuGlow: 255,0,0 //change to skin colour & darken x2 (1/4)
I don't think that's darkened xd

EDIT2: Some colors are missing the Mac folder in Setup
