hm... for mapping knowledge... I can say, its a nice point to take in mind, when I make a blanket, turn off the grid snap to fix/make it perfect (only in this cases, and sometimes have a 1,2,3 grid level make the spacing unequal, so I suggest map with level 4).
Another thing, for me it's better to map without the tick in "piled up/stacking" option, to make a better overlaps in notes, like streams, but turn it on when I put new notes, because they can overlap in some circunstances when the DS is soo small~
I think it can be cataloged as mapping knowledge, if don't, tell me! ;w;

About mapping knowledge? Hmm, I'd say sticking to well thought out concepts throughout parts of a song is important to make your maps look more consistent and better, and even make mapping the song itself easier.

1) I literally state in the first 5 lines that I don't like Love Live.
2) I also state in the first post that it has to be original, and the entire purpose of this queue is to make people read through and learn some minute things about the way other mappers think and make their maps. You can't do that by just reading the first post, scrolling down as fast as you can, and hitting "Reply."

If you ever map a decent song, feel free to try again, but then, you should at least make more than a half-assed effort to follow the rules.

Thank you for being kind, and that advice is certainly... original. However, that doesn't really seem helpful. It provides some level of importance to hitsounding, but no reason for it. Maybe you could just say that hitsounding is a more effective way to emphasize things and make your map really reflect the song?
Either way, it seems a bit less like a helpful tip and more like a strong belief.

This is pointing in the right direction, I suppose, but it still is completely unhelpful. It shows what you prioritize just fine, but otherwise it is utterly and wholly nonsubstantive.

i'm a new mapper, i don't know much about mapping, wanted to do something simple and fun to play, and i have 33 sp on it now and i still think it's absolute crap. i tried to make many triangles since they're generally easy to do and flow pretty well though.

you can change "additions" on the left side of the editor and it will put a certain hitsound on every circle like you put sampleset at normal and then additions at finish and every note you add will use the hitfinish

You can change the offset of ALL the timing/inherited sections by going to the Timing Setup Panel, press ctrl+A (to select all) and then moving the offset on the left. You can manually select certain timing points by ctrl+click or shift+click the timing sections, maybe to set different hitsound sample set, change volume, change slider velocity, etc. I just thought I'd share cuz I didn't know you could select all the timing & inherited points before so I just changed offset 1 by 1 which took a long time. lul hope this was helpful.

I'l go with a concept I guess

So emphasis is one of the most important points of mapping, it portrays the intensity of the song and can be represented by spacing, new combos, or a change in flow ( there are probably other means than just those 3 tho ). The thing is, if your emphasis is anarchic, it's gonna be very misleading for the player cause nobody expects a cross screen jump on a calm part. Also, if everything in your map is emphasised ( ex : rabbit's jumps maps where every jump is cross-screen anyway ), it's like emphasising nothing at all ; nothing really stands out if every object is ridiculously far from the next one.

Fun Fact, I use 6 degree angles in my maps because I'm a dirty hipster.
I also usually map timeline for a 5 second section then come back and make the patterns. knowing the rhythm of the section I'm doing helps me make better patterns

I really went for good flow and patterns in this map using blankets overlaps and interesting sliders
I map in large sections and at time (about 15 seconds) and then go back and fine tune everything.

As for mapping knowledge, hmm, let's see. I bet you knew this already but sliders are actually extremely lenient. You can get away with half-screen jumps of 1/4 timing if you launch off of a slider end into a circle. A good example is this picture from Shiirn's map of cherry blossoms explode across the dying horizon by sakuraburst:


In this picture the jump from the end of 3 to 4 is huge, but since the slider leniency on ends is really high, the player can be halfway to the next note already and it will still give a 300.

Basically what is being said here is as long as you were in the follow circle 30ms before it hits the end you'll still 300 the slider (I'm pretty sure but don't quote me on this.) This can allow for very demanding flowy to snappy patterns and works well when emphasizing certain sounds.

looking mostly for a mod on aesthetics. If you can playtest though give me some feedback

a mapping concept i used in this map
In this map I switch slider velocities a lot and those can obviously be confusing for players so to help players better sightread them i used NCs (and i also used them on similar sounds)

In the first half of my map, I would use NCs on sliders on the 2 fast sounds that came after a drawn out one, like this:

The same patterns show up lots throughout the map. If you notice an area where there should be NCs and there isnt or vice versa, let me know!

I was also very extensive with muting slider ends, so listen closely in case i missed one!

My favorite gimmics are slider redirections, putting a short slider after a stream can make a player jump to the next section without breaking the flow, or feeling uncomfortable
