- Hartmann's Youkai Girl is probably one of the hardest touhou songs to rhythm accurately because of the funky time signatures (7/8 + 3/4), and this remix is no exception, so I commend you for doing a pretty good job for your first beatmap. To fix some time meter issues, use the following timing points. http://puu.sh/okQ3c/d4d0d01a75.png . the first offset is negative so that the downbeat lands properly at the beginning of the song
- I'd recommend finding a custom hitsound to match the bass drum in the song. The hitsounds lack some variety with all the normal snare sounds.
- as a general comment, dont constrain yourself so much to DS, using 1.5 and 1.2x for everything leads to some a lot of ugly overlaps that detract from the map aesthetics. Along those lines, I think you could try to use a larger variety of patterns instead of just squares. Square flow is very rigid and there's a reason why mappers nowadays use it sparingly.
- 00:02:295 (3,4) - 00:04:285 (3,4) - please try to improve some these blankets. use the approach circle as a guide to help you
- 00:03:980 (1) - is a strong downbeat of the song and deserves some more emphasis. use 1.2x spacing for 00:03:519 (6,7) - and 1.5x spacing for 00:03:825 (7,1) -
- 00:05:662 (8,9) - try using some drum finishes here
- 00:02:295 (3) - and 00:04:439 (4) - follow the piano, but 00:06:580 (3) - completely ignores it. try to keep as much consistency as possible. Since it's a lunatic, I think something like this would be good, since it follows both piano and drums http://puu.sh/okRa0/d216856e4a.jpg same thing at 00:08:723 (3) -
- 00:13:926 (4,5) - don't stack, it kills the flow, since you didn't stack at 00:11:478 (4,5) -
- 00:21:273 (3,4) - 00:23:721 (4,5) - yeah actually, half of the time you stack and half of the time you don't, and the order that you do it in is pretty random. so please just unstack all of these
- 00:28:466 (3,4) - this is another type of blanket, and the slider currently feels imbalanced. try this: http://puu.sh/okRAx/352fa7d92b.jpg
- 00:30:455 (11,1,2) - current angle is too shallow and doesn't give enough emphasis to (1) imo. try moving to 00:30:149 (10) - to [256,46] and 00:30:455 (11) - to [172,192] for more structure and better emphasis of downbeat
- 00:35:276 (11) - move this to 00:35:429 - that's where the drum sound is
- 00:39:791 (9,10,11,12,13) - you could use drum claps here and 00:40:250 (14,15) - drum finishes here
- 00:41:016 (1,2,3,4) - just space these out a little more, the overlaps look bad. Just compare these two: http://puu.sh/okSl0/f466f5823e.jpg http://puu.sh/okSnU/a1e872064e.jpg same thing at 00:43:464 (1,2,3,4) - and 00:45:913 (1,2,3,4,5,6) -
- 00:42:240 (5,6,7,8) - I think it would be cool to stack these on top of the sliderheads of 00:41:016 (1,2,3,4) - gives map more structure
- 00:59:381 (5,6) - make these triplets, more fun to play and it's a lunatic diff
- 00:59:993 (7,8) - extend these to the blue ticks. Don't skip the drum sounds on those beats
- 01:29:301 - add a note hear for triplet for drums
- 01:29:684 (9) - extend to blue tick for same reason
- 01:32:439 (1,2,3) - the flow is bad here, pls fix. I might as well leave a suggestion: http://puu.sh/okT0c/95cb738eef.jpg
- 00:08:723 (3) - rotate this slider like -15 degrees to avoid overlap
- 00:15:610 (8,1) - recommend blanket here so 00:15:916 (1,3) - have similar shape
- 00:47:137 (5,6,7,8) - Make this spacing bigger! it looks like 1/4 rhythm. also, 00:47:443 (7,8,9) - should all have same spacing
- 00:49:586 (5,6,7,8,9) - ^ and etc...
- 01:10:859 (2,3) - avoid overlaps pls. a blanket would fix this problem nicely
- 01:20:654 (2,3,4) - this flow is weird compared to your other patterns since all three sliders point right which makes it super jerky to play. maybe try something like this: http://puu.sh/okU3P/f03119132c.jpg http://puu.sh/okU6r/a2f9ecac39.jpg
- 01:37:642 (2,3) - gonna stop mentioning overlaps. but you should really avoid these if you can
- 01:45:907 (1,2) - multi repeat sliders are in general pretty boring to play. Breaking these up into 1/2 sliders would be better
- 00:00:612 (1,2,3) - you should rotate the sliders or reposition (3) so that (3) is right in the middle of the two sliders. will look much better http://puu.sh/okUlA/b61a62e6cd.jpg
- 00:01:836 (3,1) - just stack these. they're still close enough in time that the spacing still feels off. same with 00:03:672 (3,1) - 02:00:599 (1,1) -
- 00:29:690 (4,5) - the beats are clearly on the red ticks. just do something like this http://puu.sh/okUN5/8897a6093b.jpg
- 00:38:567 (2,3,4) - i would move these down so that slidertail of (4) stacks with sliderhead of (1)
- 00:59:381 (3,4,5) - In general, especially for simpler diffs, you want the flow to go into the sliderbodies. http://puu.sh/okV4S/b4b53fefa6.jpg one solution is just to blanket everything http://puu.sh/okVxH/2a4fa87b44.jpg Similar places where this same slider flow issues occurs, like at 01:19:583 (4,5) - 01:59:375 (3) - 02:05:956 (3,4,5) - etc...
- 01:28:613 (3,4) - stack here? easier for new players to hit
- Same general comment about flow as normal diff
- why not map out the beginning like the rest of the diffs? you could simplify the rhythm down to 3 sliders to make it beginner friendly. http://puu.sh/okW5Y/09d696b1d7.jpg
- so 00:06:733 (2,3) - keeps the flow going in a clockwise fashion, but the identical part at 00:08:876 (2,3) - has a back and forth flow with both CW and CCW sliders, keeping these consistent are the little things that will improve your map
- 00:25:711 (1) - remake slider, algorithm got bugged
- 00:30:608 (1) - spinner duration is too long for new players, and on top of that, you add another long spinner afterwards
please just map this section out with notes. same thing with 01:29:990 (1,1) -
- 00:59:381 (3) - extend this to the white tick where the strong beat is
- 01:10:400 (1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2) - use more 1/1 rhythms, it's pretty boring right now and way easier than the similar section at 00:11:019 (1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3) -
