A joker wins when he is lynched. They lose if they are alive when the game ends, or if they are night killed.

So, if I understand the point of the retarded joker role, it's to help the mafia slightly? Just how likely is the role to appear in a game this size do you all think?

Regardless of what strager gave as evidence, I still don't believe that heshe is the joker. I think it was just something heshe lucked? into, since they admittedly don't know what they are doing.

I wouldn't say he's dumb, he's just new to this stuff that's all.

Anyway, if he is the jester and none of us want a shared win, then a fairly standard way of dealing with it is by not lynching him today and letting the mafia NK him tonight. If he is not NK'd tonight then we lynch him tomorrow. This way, if he is a predator then yay, we lynch a predator tomorrow. If not, the mafia won't want to take a chance that he is a jester and kill him tonight so we don't lynch him tomorrow.

Though again, this is only if nobody wants a shared win. I dunno how the predators would feel about sharing their win in exchange for a human being lynched tomorrow, and I don't know what all of you think either. So DISCUSS.

Why would they nightkill himher? If the game continues even after a joker's death, I don't see the downside for the mafia. I don't even see a point to the joker role existing except to help the mafia... so please tell me how what you said makes sense.

Maybe they're greedy and want the game to themselves - maybe not.

All I know is that there have been several osu!mafia games with a jester involved, and I wouldn't put it past SFG to throw one into this one.

I haven't seen a small game (13 people) have a jester yet. (though I may be wrong since I haven't exactly joined a lot of games)
Though the probability of having a jester are slim, there's still a chance.

Nakata's actions scream Jester to me, yet he's doing it wrong.
(Basically) Openly admitting that you're a jester won't get you lynched.
Instead people will use reverse psychology and assume that you're just pretending to be a jester.

- If they are the joker, they're just going to keep saying annoyingly stupid things

- If they are the joker, they won't get nightkilled (unless the mafia is retarded this game, like the wolves from the past 2 games)

- If they aren't the joker, they won't get nightkilled (unless the mafia is retarded this game, like the wolves from the past 2 games)

- If they are a part of the mafia, they won't get nightkilled obviously.

Basically the only way around being stuck with the bill of lynching them is for someone to investigate them.

Sorry, it's bugging me: the role's actually called the Jester, not Joker.

Also, mod: If a jester is investigated, would the outcome be Guilty or Not Guilty (assuming investigations don't reveal entire roles)?

Possible results of an investigation include "mafia," "neutral," and "town." A jester, along with any other third party, would come up as being "neutral."

WIFOM. A tricky jester could pretend to be a mafia pretending to be a jester. Although seeing as he's a new player, it would seem more likely that if he was the jester then he would bank on everyone else not knowing about the possibility of a jester role.

I haven't posted because I haven't made up my mind yet, especially now that I can assume Nakata Yuji had an important role of sorts. Unless he was a wolf pretending to have such a role, or unless Two and Nakata Yuji are both wolves. (I didn't vote Nakata Yuji previously because I had a hunch it would be a bad idea, but eh.)

That actually seems rather likely, both Two and Nakata Yuji being wolves. o_o If they were two wolves and putting on a show to fool all of us, it would definitely make sense if Nakata Yuji went and confused all of us and then Two played Nakata Yuji off as innocent just now. On the other hand, this situation would make a lot of sense if both of them were townsfolk or of either one of them was a wolf. Now I really can't make up my mind... :?

Anyway, might as well vote Two since I'm still not sure about lynching Nakata Yuji at this point.

@Mashley: If we lynch Nakata Yuji and he turns out to be innocent we'll likely end up losing a very important role given how Two was acting. (Note that Two would act that way regardless of whether he is a wolf or not because if he is he'd want to avoid suspicion.) As a result lynching Two seems like a safer bet.

The problem with your logic is that if they did indeed claim to be a valuable role, and I was a wolf, I could have not only avoided suspicion but I could have lynched that valuable role by simply doing nothing.

In retrospect, there are several things about this post that rub me the wrong way. The first is the, by itself, innocent fact that they voted as part of a bandwagon. The next part most people will probably disagree with me on, but it's "Yeah, this is very suspicious". Stating things as fact actually is a very effective way to persuade people, as they take it in subconsciously. It's similar to how people say the person's name that they're talking to in order to gain control of a conversation. I think that it was deliberately stated that way, and this is backed up by the last bit, "Now, if we assume that Nataka is scum, then that would make Wojjan and 0_o innocent, wouldn't it?", where he tries to influence the game's perception of not only Nakata, but of Wojjan, 0_o, and himself. Making people believe that x cannot be y because x is opposite of z is extremely valuable for wolves/mafia/whatever, since it allows one of their members to go unsuspected and coast to the finish line.

Then, Mashley posted a screenshot of the pm that Nakata sent him. He had to remove it, but this is what was said in response:

This is the post that made me go back and look. It's so painfully ignorant that it's on the same level as Wojjan's troll post. Mash dear I think you know enough of mafia games and the like to see that there's this certain tactic called distancing I and 0_o could be doing. If someone acts scummy and we jump on it to accuse him and lo behold it's really a mafia, then people will get townie vibes from us, while it's not certain that I'm actually town. See last game where two blatantly fell for my trickeries.
Since my vote is more or less useless with the almost-majority stck in yay-nay over Nakata, I might as well Unvote and vote at a later date. I'll put up a vote for a no lynch until I decide to drop in again, just to save me a nasty phantom vote for D2.

Oh 2, I really really think you could do better than calling people out on their use of emoticons.

For the record, this game does not utilize phantom votes. If you are inactive you will be prodded. If you don't pick up your prod, I will forcibly replace you. If you are prodded repeatedly without any sign of picking up your activity beyond the bare minimum, I will forcibly replace you. If, after a significant period of time, I am unable to fill an inactive slot, that slot will be modkilled.

I don't see how nakata roleclaiming would benefit town at all. You people are already guaranteeing they get night killed anyway, since you wouldn't leave talk about their role alone. Why would I start the chain of votes on my "buddy"? I'm not stupid enough to not know how sticky votes are on the first day. More importantly, why have you still not posted a reason for voting for me? I thought the vote was just your usual bs so I ignored it, but I guess you have a reason?

This is all a distraction though. While I don't know if nakata was honest when they posted their role, I really think they were because of the circumstances and how they've been playing so far. Please don't be dumb and lynch them thx.

You kept Nakata's roleclaim to yourself.

Either you're a Townie trying to cover up Nakata's mistake (in which case, why did you say in IRC that Nakata posted their role?) or you're scum trying to either (1) get the votes off your scum buddy who (oops!) "claimed" to get out of a rough situation, or (2) get votes onto another player by playing "hero" by "protecting" Nakata from "possible scum" (like DC and I, who were in IRC at the time).

If you had not gloated that you saw Nakata claim to DC and I in IRC, I may not have thought so much of your unvote and your keeping the roleclaim private. However, you did gloat, and you did refuse to reveal why you did unvote shortly thereafter. I cannot really see any other alternative than "Two is scum".
