What happened to the combofire?

The Combofire is still in the game, but there is not an option in the new settings. You can enable it in the .settings file in your osu folder.

Is there a rework going to be? (as a fancier version?)

Or is it going to be forgotten?

The current combo fire will disappear entirely once osu! moves off of DirectX. A new combofire or something similar is planned, but it's very low priority at the moment.

That Osu! moves away from DirectX was new for me

If osu will not use DirectX, what will it use ?
