I'm heavily arachnophobic so any games that has spiders scares me.

There was a E-rated game called Poptropica. And there's this spider that is as big as a human and has three eyes in the sewers. That f-cking sonuvab-tch spider f-cking scared the f-cking sh-t out of f-cking me. And I never played Poptropica again. And I don't think I will.

I've played Fear 3 and Dead Space 1 & 2.

Fear 3 was definitely a let down as far as scares go. I was more worried about stuff jumping out at me than actually being afraid.

I remeber playing Unreal many years ago with my headphones on. The music was kind of tense so every time a big zombie apeared I was startled.
But I didn't stop playing. I think I'm kind of a masochist!!

Siren Blood Curse and Haunting Grounds come to mind. Silent Hill 3 had a few creepy moments though.

Amnesia, Probably because of the fact that you have no means of defence.

But when i was young (Like 8 years old i think) Metroid 2: The return of Samus scared the living shit out of me

The part when you've killed all the Metroids exept the last one, going through the tunnel in a spider ball and seeing that Metroid egg, slowly going away from it and then hearing the sounds of rumbling and creation, seeing the ammount of Metroids going up to 9 and the music getting even creepier, while it already was creepy, On top of that not knowing how to kill these newly spawned Metroids, Probably one of my most firghtening experiences so far in life.

I think the reason it was scary was because you were the one preforming the brutal acts, so it was a more psychological horror game than, idk, an action game.

I have already beat Fatal Frame series up to the 4th game, but I just don't have the guts to continue playing Clock Tower 3><

Just kidding. Scariest game I've played is Silent Hill. That's the last game I played that I think "scary". Well I played it a few years ago(I think I was 13 that time) and I still remember how I've screamed while playing it with my cousins.

I'm fond of zombie games, I played almost all of the Resident Evil.

I must say, Amnesia made me cry like a little girl inside my classroom years ago when I was in high school. My friends are like "Whoa dude, why are you crying" and I would be like "Shit man this is so scary." That was the day when the Amnesia virus spread around the class.

I still can't believe I finished amnesia by myself. All I remember doing is hiding like a little girl in the corner for hours wondering if the monster is gone. :(

Amnesia was pretty scary. The atmosphere, story and the circumstance that you are NOT able to do anything but hide when something is chasing you. Some of those free2download games or mods for games are scary too, like Cry of Fear, SCP etc.

AND THE FREAKIN SUN LEVEL IN WORLD 2 OF SUPER MARIO BROS. 3! Scared the sh*t out of me everytime when i was young :c (also that big fish in world 3!)

I've never played a game that truly made me think it was "scary", but I did get a pretty big jump scare from the Dragon Keep DLC in Borderlands 2 due to a Mimic chest >...>

Other than that, I also got a jump out of Metro 2033 once, but that was more so because I was lagging and the enemy just suddenly appeared behind me after it stopped lagging.

Also, I've never actually played Amnesia. Is it actually that scary, or is it just being overhyped?

It is the inspiration for Resident Evil and the Survival Horror genre, but I guess that this game isn't as popular as I thought it would be. Too bad that it was only released in Japan, but there is an English patch available. It is a pretty good blend of a RPG with limited amounts of healing items and deathtraps, as well as shocking and frightening images and scenes (for a NES game!). It even got the infamous door sequences!

I recomend it to you if you want to relive the early Resident Evil games.
There is also a movie with the same title that was released in the same year as well, it follows the story of the game, except for a few changes. I didn't watched it, but I heared that the movie is somewhat meh.

Anyway, +1 for The Witch's House, Clock Tower - The First Fear and Misao as well. I can't describe how scared I was while playing these games, it was really disturbing. :(

Jesus FUCKING CHRIST AMNESIA!!! That game is REALLY scary!! The ambiance is spot on, the monsters are super creepy and the sanity gimick is really well exicuted.

Still the most scary FREE game would have to be Kraven Manor. Its made on the ureal engine and is REALLY scary!! If you want to know more look it up or watch markiplier play it on youtube.

It really is terrifying, yes. SCP: Containment Breach is also very good for the feeling it gives you.

Amnesia, but my friends decided to make it scarier by playing the monster sounds through skype and seemed to do it right as I went up to a door ;-;
Other than that nothing pretty scary.

Super Mario 64, Noby Noby Boy and Tekken 5's Devil Within scared me a lot.

In Super Mario 64, Jolly Roger's Bay, Dire Dire Docks and Big Boo's Haunt had a bunch of creepy species like the eel, spellbooks, magic tomes, the merry-go-round trap and the hurricane. The metal box area in Hazy Maze cave has an exit which makes Mario fly out of the waterfall back to the castle grounds when failed.

Noby Noby Boy was a game with horrific, alien-like music and centers mainly on caterpillars. Really? Insects creep me out...

Devil Within had True Ogre as the last boss. I could not stand him spinning around too many times, but I at least found his weakness to grab his tail and spin throw right after landing from the flamethrower.

Scariest game i've ever played has to be... Well, I haven't played many games in the horror genre, but I think Return to Castle Wolfenstein (Yes, the FPS game) was pretty freaking scary because I played it when I was 13 and scared shitless on the crypt levels.

I love scary games. Amnesia: The Dark Descent has so far been the only one I actually was scared to play. Slender also creeped me out, but it isn't a scary or horror game, it just scares you with the piano sound.
I finished Amnesia a Machine for Pigs 4 days after it's release. It was not scary and it was too DAMN short...

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. I would have nightmares from that stuff, I was like 7 when I played it and to make it worse, my brother showed me some video called Ben. Whenever I thought of it, I was too scared to sleep. :(

I haven't really played many actual scary games
but a disturbing/scary in it's own way is LSD dream emulator
especially if you have a fear of being in like a large area with nothing around you
and the fact that it's old piece of crap causes jumpscares of random things
and later on it's just gets so weird and clusterfucky that it's disturbing

also dream of the blood moon (I think it's called that) is morely on the scary side than disturbing

but those 2. yeah.

"Cry of fear" was kinda shocking to me. Very creepy monsters and a lot of jumpscares. Will never play that again!

The problem on outlast was... it's too repititive imo.
