Actually Enchance Pointer Precision is less of acceleration and more of prediction, just like that additional option in osu!'s mouse sensitivity.
Unless coupled with a driver of its own, usually regular mice have mouse acceleration whether you like it or not. I played with mouse acceleration for a few months before switching it off, and that was when I was getting rather good with insanes. It took a while to get used to, but in the end I was able to do larger, more controlled jumps than before.
On topic: I was barely passing them in my first month, starting going apeshit on the second, and finally cleared them no problem in the third. Of course the standard during those times were drastically different from the standards today.

Osu!'s mouse sensitivity option is a correction of the formula used to calculate mouse movement. It simply calculates the movement more accurately where the old formula apparently rounded some values, as stated by Peppy. They are not related in any way.Sup A Noob wrote:

yea, i guess one of the reasons I use mouse acceleration is cause I have the most basic optical mouse.
but still, i can do insane jumps fine with acceleration, like 7x7x7 jumps or airman(to an extent)

That's just the thing. The acceleration with EPP is not constant. The acceleration changes with the speed that you move your hand. If you move your hand faster, then the cursor goes further, and vice versa. This is hell for your muscles. They have to learn not only how far they have to move, but also how fast they have to move. Imagine if you had a stick, and you were pointing at places on a blackboard. It's not hard to learn how far to move your arm to get the stick to hit one sport or another. Now imagine that that stick were made of extremely elastic rubber... It would bounce around further when you moved your arm quickly, and when you moved slowly it'd bounce closer. It'd be very hard to control it well enough to get it to hit exactly the point that you want to hit. This is why pointing devices are never elastic. XD[AirCoN] wrote:

If you mean 1/11 acceleration, then that's constant except for on uneven settings, or so I understand it. Basically, if you set it to 7, then you get times where the software has to round off a .5 result, which results in your movement jumping a pixel. If you set it to 8, then I think it simply drops a whole pixel on every movement. This obviously means that you can't hit certain pixels, because they get dropped, but it is a uniform drop, and probably won't hurt critically like EPP does.
From my experience, when I began Osu using my mouse, I barely could've passed insanes with Mouse acceleration on. Once my friend told me to take it off, I started doing insanes like they were Hards ._.
Though, that was because I used a cheap normal mouse that came with my pc. When I told my friend who has a pro gaming mouse to check it off. He said it dosen't help, and fucks him up or something like that. So I think Mouse acceleration only works for people with normal mouses.
edit; oh and btw, I havent used my mouse in 6 months, but when i play with it to have fun..I can also do Lunatic AR9 maps with a few misses...so I'm just saying..you need to get a bunch or some experience before you start passing insane songs. I like how time taken to pass Insanes can get completely derailed into something like mouse. The bottomline for mouse users is, turn off whatever pointer prediction your system has for the mouse (not acceleration).
Now, back to topic.
I've answered my part, so here's a tip. Pro quake players still use minor acceleration values today, but you can't believe anyone's settings at face value until you know what hacks they've made to their drivers. Also nearly all mouse sensors cause +/- accel to some degree, with the exception being a few tried and tested mice. And 'back in the day' there were no 100% reliable sensors, so players added a comfortable level of accel to counteract it, and if mousepad friction bothered them slightly.G0r wrote:

When I started osu!, I played a small amount of easy maps before moving to hard maps. I remember the last hard map I ever played was Nehanshika. After that I swapped to tablet + keyboard and my accuracy started going down, but eventually I became better and reached my current (93.39%) accuracy. I guess if I were to estimate, it would have taken me about 1.5-2 months before I started insanes. I mostly stick to insanes which I can pass in an effort to raise my PP though, and I'm currently playing barely passable songs (at least for me), so my PP is dropping fast.

I really should try to get rid of that mentality. It's quite hard since I'm a bit of a obsessive perfectionist

No. Most of the time I have to retry so many times, coz I'm not easily able to FC that song with a decent accuracy.
And getting accurate results is quite important for me.
Besides, most of the map that yields a non-pass try for me are maps with ridicilous bpm & long streams. I suck at those, therefore I mostly aim for FC's on every map

if you can FC something means nothing, if you cant FC it, no matter how much you try its too hard, if you can fc it with less than 9x% acc its too hard
if you can fc it with 98+ acc its good.
ofcourse this is purely subjective, and there is no definition of when a map is too hard or too easy for you, which everybody knows ofcourse.

Within the week. Though it was much of an easy Insane, so not much pride in that.
Around 2 weeks with the tablet I started to pass insanes (before I was getting nowhere using mouse only a week before), and I started to FC (easy) insanes around 2 weeks after that.

It depends on the BPM of the song for me. I didn't start passing 200+ BPM songs on Insane until last week ... Which was 3 months after I got back into osu. Just keep playing songs that are too hard for you but not impossible and you will get there :3

About 3k playcount for easy insanes, 5k for med-hard insanes. I'd say in months but I randomly quit for months at a time so that's not really a good estimate.

the AR isnt even what makes it difficult, its way easier than the same map on ar9

Started playing straight on normal/hard difficulty, currently (about 1,000 plays) passing happily easier insanes and (some) normal level insanes.
Played on a super crappy comp with a ball mouse for a year and could barely pass hards. ( Took me 3 tries to FC the tutorial song... Not to mention I couldn't see sliders with the exception of the approach circles) After quitting for a year I could pass easy insanes in two weeks. Turned off epp and could play normal/hard insanes after two more weeks.
Started casually playing somewhere in September. Just now, 5 months and 700 plays later, I passed an easier Insane difficulty for the first time. 
I took so freaking long that I don't even remember.... started in Dec 2012
Started at the eve of 2013, playing a few hours a week and getting 350m ranked score, i can FC easy and normal insanes with respectable accuracy.
I passed http://osu.ppy.sh/s/43812 after a week of playing. It felt even better than getting promoted from bronze league in sc2 
About 4 days for beginner insane songs like 110 bpm, then it was just a climb :p

It took me 14 days to beat something actually named "insane" and when I did that, I beat two others on the same day.
I beat that DJ Genericname remix of "Dear You" in about 29 days. I think this was a few days after I turned off mouse accel.
I beat Gold Dust with an A after EXACTLY 2 months.
And if that's still not "insane" enough, the last landmark for me was Totsugeki! Glass no Kneesocks Hime! on Bunny Style. It took 4 months and 20ish days to pass it in general.

After about 2 weeks I could clear easier insanes. It took about a month for me to scrape through the harder ones, and now I can pretty much clear any insane (other than the ridiculous) with respectable accuracy.

It didn't take me too long (~.5k plays), but I was playing osu!droid for a long time before that. It took me around 400 or so plays to get used to a mouse and keyboard instead of a touchscreen.
I still can't pass some streamier maps because I got used to streaming with my right hand (196bpm comfortably), but on a computer I have to stream with my off hand (186bpm, and it hurts).
I got much, much better when I turned off mouse acceleration. DO THAT.

It really depends on the player. Personally, I played on and off for a few years without devoting a whole lot of time to osu! (less than 3000 plays over two years), and I could barely pass insanes, if at all. But after recently getting a tablet and racking up over a thousand more plays with it I can FC the average insane in a few retries, and I can FC easier ones on the first read if I'm really on my game. But I've been playing rhythm games and actual instruments for almost ten years, so rhythm recognition and finger dexterity were non-issues for me; it was more about learning to read beatmaps and getting my mouse/pen hand up to snuff.
Heck if I know, like around 3 or 4 months I think. I was passing several insanes and hards, and then about 3 weeks ago I realized I can turn off mouse acceleration XD Took awhile to get use to, but it really does help ^^
I only know I can turn off mouse acceleration now... That's why I thought tablet was much easier.
Around 5 months or so. Still can't pass some of them but I keep practicing everyday x3
Just did my first Insane today, which is my second day playing osu!. I might try different insane songs from the ones I've been doing to see I can pass more. I get close to the end of them, but not able to finish them yet . Improving every day with 309 play counts (Most of them are just doing the same maps over and over )

I started playing osu back in 2010 on a pretty crappy setup and couldn't really play the game at all. Long story short I ended up getting frustrated after about 13k plays and quit for a year. The most I could manage when I quit was passing hards nomod with an A rank. After coming back I managed to start playing insanes about 2-4 weeks after coming back at approximately 16k playcount.

2 months. 4mo's for harder more jump oriented maps. 6-12mo's for more insane-insane maps.
It seems these days people try to rush into insane maps too quickly. My advice; keep a steady pace and don't set your expectations too high.
