Gonna add beatmaniaIIDX (Which I know was brought up in an earlier post) to my list, because the learning curve is the steepest I've ever seen for a rhythm game. The jump in difficulty between normal and hyper is ridiculous :(

I suppose in general bemani games are fairly challenging, but I find Jubeat very fun (and pretty easy). Never tried DrumMania or any of those though.

yu gi oh took me 1 year to beat when i was about 8 XD kept gathering stuff from meadow mage in free duel
Dark Souls is awesome and hard but far from hardest once you know what you're doing
i think Devil May Cry 3 DMD mode takes the cake i can't think of anything else at this time

Metroid on the NES. I beat it, but the game was so poorly designed that to play it without any outside source would take a lifetime to beat.

A lot of NES games were like this. You had to basically bomb random walls in the original Zelda if you wanted to find anything.

It's so goddamn hard, also I just don't seem to have the patience for a hardcore labyrinth dungeon crawler RPG T_T
except for shin megami tensei: strange journey.. god, that game was pretty hard >.< but sooooo damn awesome *__*

I agree with you. But I don't think you're bad with platform games. Bros. 1 had just insane difficulty.

Although I agree, there are T]two things that seperate LoZ from Metroid:

1. Most random bombing was optional. Neither the potion nor container was NEEDED to win, just made it easier.
2. Necessary bombing was most of the time deducted from logic by using the map and seeing there is no passage way into the room nearby on all sides. Plus, it tended to be in the center of the wall.

Metroid was like telling me to find a needle in a haystack over one hundred different times. Thanksfully bombing random places didnt take some form of money like in LoZ.

I think Wild Arms 4. I got to one puzzle near the end of the game and spent countless hours on it, reading FAQs and couldn't overcome it. Then I stopped playing.

Mega Man Zero, the first one.
Mega Man X6 was cheap in difficulty but even then I could still finish that. In Mega Man Zero, despite being genuinely hard, I can't even beat the first of the final stages.

good point, I'd say stepmania was the hardest for me, I never was able to do 2 of the beatmaps I've downloaded with massive bpm changes (when at my best long ago)
If I'd try it right now... I'd fail worse than before, those maps are more terrible than 1 fingered 200bpm (and I use right hand only for stepmania) (how the hell was I able to keep up with it)

Dustforce is pretty damn tough towards the last unlocks.


Harder than meat boy imo. More controls and such.

This will sound stupid but honestly it's Touhou : Embodiment of Scarlet Devil because Bullet Hell ( Danmaku ) games are by far my least played genre D: could barely get past 3 levels on EASY

Hmm... I would have to say either Deathsmiles, Triggerheart Exelica, or Otomedius Excellent. Just don't remember enemy positions for some stages. Especially on higher difficulties...

I remember a hard game, his name was Super Meat Boy 2, its not the hardest i ever played i think, but its very funny.

Totally recommended, and WARNING, your little finger will be punished.....trust me ;)

defeating Sephiroth (even in LVL99) is still hard..

I thought the Prime series wasn't too bad.
You had a big health bar in those games.
...Of course you needed it, but it was not that bad if you read the enemy patterns...
I do remember dying some though...and I still have to finish 2...

Wait I played the special Trilogy version on the Wii. That had a good control scheme. Never mind.

Hard to say, there are quite some games that feel impossibly hard. Just from the top of my head, I'd say Ghouls and Ghosts. I'll never understand how such a game, that's made of pure frustration, could have ever become so popular.

Now that I really think about it. It has to be Ace Combat 6 on Ace difficulty (Landing repair is disabled, not to mention that the enemies are more stronger and more accurate) or Ace Combat: Assault Horizon on Ace (Health regeneration is disabled, not to mention that the enemies are deadly accurate).

I think it had something to do with when you beat the final boss it makes you play through the whole thing all over again just to see the ending. It's just plain evil if anything.
Don't worry, I've only ever gotten as far as the fifth level I think. Still had fun with it though.

Probaly Osu! That's why I like it so much. Other than that I'd say Starcraft II. Not so much on the singleplayer department, but when you start playing the MP aka the real deal shit just gets too tough for my nerves. I wanna be the guy isn't really a hard game. Its more about memorizing stuff. Yeah, I've beaten it a couple of times.

I'd have to say, Dark Spire. I got to level 8 or so and just couldn't handle the game :<. One time, I started to play it, walked into the tower and took like 3 steps, got into a battle and died. Had to start over..I think it's hard anyway.

Going by that just about every competitive multiplayer game is hard.

On the basis that there is always going to be someone better than you/can beat you.

On topic: Unfortunately I haven't really come across any hard games lately. F-Zero GX still kicks my butt though.

A lot of people say the Touhou games are extremely hard, but they're just predictable patterns of bullets... on easy difficulty. Anything above that, and you'll get your ass handed to ya.
Though I usually find the Kingdom Hearts games very difficult (then again, I always play them on the hardest difficulty)

if it's without cheat, maybe (in my opinition) the game that the hardest is Earthbound in SNES

fight the boss ?, must use the tactics, wrong step ?, lose.

Any shooting games.... I can't imagine anyone can finish the game WITHOUT getting shot 1 time or died 1 time. ( so here i was imagining how does the real heroes of world war survive...)

Probably by either getting hurt at the very beginning, practically not shooting or by flawless teamwork. People in the front-lines are pretty much bound to die.This doesn't mean that I think expert soldiers do not exist, but a lone wolf in war, surviving? It sounds really hard.

SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos. That overpowered Mr. Karate made even Shin Akuma looking like a bitch, plus the fact that he blocks all the time and uses that SAME Kooh-ken/Uppercut combo. Made me cry when I can't even beat him with Terry :(

Hardest games I've played list:
GB: Pokémon Yellow (Until you know what you're supposed to do, you're pretty much dead.)
PS1: Digimon World 3 (Actually this game's difficulty is sorta artificial.)
PS2: Burnout Paradise(?) (At least the sequel makes up for the cons in this one.)
PSP: DJMax Black Square (Also considered artificial, since some of the missions get freaking ridiculous, starting with ones that require to have a perfect 100% accuracy.)
PC: Touhou 13 - Ten Desires (Everything is freaking slow in the first three stages. In the other three, it gets way faster. In short, there's a weird difficulty spike in the game, or that's how I feel. I haven't even unlocked the Extra Stage yet :/)

Touhou 13 on normal, in my opinion, is the hardest game.
